Summary: Very dramatic
Review: Probably the best mutiny story since "The Caine Mutiny". Gene Hackman and Danzel Washington were awesome.

Summary: A phenomenally intense film
Review: Wow. Each time I see this film it gets better. In fact, it's playing in my DVD player right now. Tony Scott directed this tale of mutiny aboard a nuclear subamarine. Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington turn in amazing performances and a super all-man supporting crew fill in the sailors caught in this tense, testosterone fueled action film. Prodcued by the legendary Simpson/ Bruckheimer team, who also did Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Beverly Hills Cop,Bad Boys, and The Rock. Tony Scott's best action-movie, although True Romance is his best film. Check out Enemy of the State-another kick-butt flick from the same creative team.

Summary: The Master of Soundtracks
Review: Crimson Tide! The best soundtrack ever made by a human being. It's unusual that the soundtrack is better then the movie. But in this case...Absolutely!! BUY IT!!! The Rock is also a great CD, but can't compete with Crimson Tide. Sorry.

Summary: A MUST buy DVD!
Review: I watched this DVD on the following equipment: Toshiba DVD Player, Sony 825 Dolby Digital Receiver, Sony 53 inch Rear Projection TV, Bose AM-10 Speakers (no subwoofer).

The movie in and of itself is fantastic. The acting by everybody is superb. The storyline fantastic. The filming and editing is excellent. What really caught my attention about this disc was the care taken to transfer the Video and Audio. The picture jumps off the screen. The use of colors really enhances the transfer, the images are incredible. Add to that the sound and you've got a disc that really shows off what DVD is capable of. There are times during this disc that all 5.1 channels are used to their fullest. The Low Frequency Effects literally rattled candles off the table. The sound on the rear speakers completely envelope you in this movie. The little sounds of machinery, and creaking metal add to the pure enjoyment of the movie and this DVD. This is a MUST buy DVD!

Summary: Cliche-ridden prentiousness
Review: I detest movies that put on a false air of profundity, pretending to be a lot deeper and more thoughtful than they really are. This movie is a prime example of that. The captain vs soldier confrontaion cliche has been done many times before - and better too. Hackman vs Washington is a pale imitation of the terrific Gable vs Lancaster confrontation of "Run Silent Run Deep". I was extremely offended by a scene in the movie which depicts Hackman letting his dog urinate on the sub. Perhaps, the director thought this would add drama to the movie, and add further shades of arrogance to Hackman's character. Instead, it exposes the movie for what it is: a hyped-up farce which fritters away a believable and extremely significant movie premise.

Summary: Terse, fun, thought provoking...woo hoo!
Review: I have to say I really enjoyed this one, particularly being a big fan of submarine movies. The actors are in rare form and the moral ambiguity definitely holds one's interest...for fun try watching DAS BOOT beforehand - quite a fascinating contrast! However the dialogue does suffer slightlyfrom the gaggle of scriptwriters and the Tarantino contributions - while funny - seem a little out of place. But still cool!

Summary: Great
Review: This is one of the best submarine movies out there. Great technical language.

Summary: This film closely examines what it means to be an officer.
Review: The reviewer from Amazon.com was obviously unqualified to judge this military masterpiece. Far from being nonsense, "Crimson Tide" is perhaps the most missed treasure in all the genre of military film-making. A far, far better film than "Top Gun," or "Hunt for Red October," the themes examined by "Crimson Tide" are nothing if not universal, relevant, and compelling.

What does it mean to be an officer? What is the definition of "duty?" Who is a true patriot? When is it necessary to disobey orders? How will the world make the transition from Cold War brinksmanship to a proactive peace, and who will be the new caretakers of the nuclear threat?

"Crimson Tide" demands that you answer these questions. It refuses to allow you to take refuge in flag-waving, in platitudes, in apathy. From the symbolic sight of a junior officer running breathlessly up a flight of steps, carrying the keys to a nuclear pandora's box in his trembling hand, to the moment when Captain Ramsey (brilliantly played by Gene Hackman) must confront the knowledge that what he knows is not only obsolete, but a lethal threat to his world, this film is not a movie but a play, a brilliant study in the things which men bring to the decision-making process, a play on the level of "Twelve Angry Men" in its compelling examination of those questions we are afraid to answer about ourselves.

Summary: Good Movie, Good Plot, Good God!!!
Review: Hoorah for good actors and good plots!!

This is a very well made movie. The acting is excellent, Denzel and Gene have a ball - and so do we. The plot is good. The production spot-on.

The DVD picture is perfect and the digital sound track is crystal clear. Have a ball, buy two!! END
