Review: Someone commented earlier that they've seen this story before. Well, right now Bitter Vengeance is on LMN and it is a very similar story. The bizarre thing is that Bruce Greenwood plays the hubby in THAT movie too! Maybe that's how he landed the role in Double Jeapardy??

Summary: I Liked This Movie!
Review: Yes this movie may be predictable and at times unrealistic but it was enjoyable and it was nice to see a woman playing an active part in a movie with a lot of action and adventure when that kind of movie is usually dominated by men, now don't get me wrong, I'm a woman who likes the type of action adventure that has male actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger but for a nice change of pace it was nice to see one that a woman got to get even with the bad guy and show him that she wasn't going to take his bad treatment of her! Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones were very good in this movie and had some great on-screen chemistry and if you like any of these actors I recommend this movie which I have to admit at first when my sister rented the video a couple of years ago I didn't really want to see it but I'm glad my sister convinced me to watch it because I wound up enjoying it and I'm considering buying the movie on DVD.

Review: Ok, it's a pretty predictable movie, but that doesn't take away any of the tension,suspense, or drama away from "Double Jeopardy".The Performances are superb.Ashely Judd is believable, and likable in her role.The rest of the performances are also very well done.There are some funny parts, and basically this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat, while stirring up many feelings.It's a good movie folks, don't pick at the small stuff.

Review: THIS is Ashley Judd's kind of role -- not romantic comedy lead or Ya-ya psychotic-mom. Here, she is a woman with a seemingly perfect life when she wakes up to find her husband is dead and she has been accused. She is found guilty and taken away from her young son to be put in prison. While there she discovers she has indeed been framed and by her still-alive husband to boot.Double Jeopardy refers to the term that you cannot be tried for the same crime twice. Since she has already been found guilty and served time for the man's death, she can now kill him with impunity. Thus becomes her train of thought and the focus for the rest of the movie. This is high-adrenaline stuff as you see Judd transform herself from cutesy housewife-in-love to wronged and angry woman-on-a-rampage. Go, Judd, GO!

Summary: Diverting and Smart Thriller!
Review: This is a smart and stylish thriller, one that is lavishly produced and gorgeously photographed, and the variety of settings for the action varies widely from the great Northwest to the streets of New Orleans. Ashley Judd plays Libby Parsons, a woman framed by her husband of his murder, and she finds herself quickly convicted and sentenced to prison while he (played by Bruce Greenwood) makes his own handy escape. When finally released from prison on parole, Libby is unable to locate either her 'dead' husband or her young son, so she devises a plan to find them. This means jumping parole, which energizes parole officer Travis Lehman (Tommy Lee Jones) into hot pursuit, and a terrific cat and mouse game (played on several levels at once) ensues. The repartee between Judd and Jones works well, and one can tell that Jones is doing more than walking through his lines here. The thrills are consistent, often quite novel, and the sequences work well because all of the ensemble cast puts in credible performances and let the quite professional level of action sequences speak for themselves. There are a number of diverting plot twists, and one finds the conclusion both entertaining and plausible, something not many recent thrillers seem able to do at the same time. While neither of the principals was likely to receive consideration for an academy award, their performances are quite good. This is a good action thriller, and one I can highly recommend. Enjoy!

Summary: Best of AJ's movies, but why won't DVD play right?
Review: In general I'm no fan of Ashley Judd, but as it seems this movie is often trashed just as much as some of hers that deserve it much more, I thought I'd defend this one a bit. It's a taut thriller in which she's framed for murdering her husband and sent to prison, even though it turns out the husband faked his death. On getting out of prison she persues her still-living husband, seeking custody of their child. Having been told that the principle of double jeopardy would make her immune from prosecution if she then did go on to actually kill him, she uses that claim to pressure him to turn over the child. One major criticism leveled against this movie is that that's not really how the title principle workes - that one CAN be prosecuted for killing someone previously presumed dead even when one has been already convicted of that person's supposed "murder". I guess one could call that a significant flaw in the movie. But, let me say it all works out in the end so that no invocation of double jeopardy would be necessary anyhow (I'll say no more to avoid spoilers). For whatever flaws, it's a tense thriller throughout. The one problem that mystifies me is why the DVD won't play right on my player. I bought what I was advised was the best brand of DVD player, and I've had no trouble with any other movie on it. But the first DVD I bought of DOUBLE JEOPARDY started having its sound skip about midway through the movie and then completely hung up to an indefinite still picture further on. Thinking the DVD effective, I exchanged it for another copy, but the other copy did exactly the same at the very same places! Just to make sure I later checked out a library copy, and it did exactly the same as well. Is it just something about my otherwise perfect DVD player, or something strange about the movie? I can make it all play by starting each chapter separately after the point of first malfunction. But a continuous playing of the whole movie seems to be impossible on my player.

Summary: A chick flick a guy can enjoy
Review: The plotline is pure Lifetime movie-of-the-week: wronged woman has to hunt down and kill her scumbag ex-husband in order to get her kid back. The difference between those and this is that this is GOOD! It may have to do with how Ashley Judd has enough edge and strength to convince you that she really would make you pay with interest if you crossed her. Tommy Lee Jones' presence as Ashley's parole officer trying to bring her back in gives the film a bit of a "Fugitive/US Marshals" pseudo-sequel feel. It's definitely not a date movie, but it is a film that both genders can agree upon.

Summary: Very entertaining flick.
Review: I didn't see this movie in the theater. It looked like it was just another mediocre action flick with a chick as the lead. But when I saw it on video, I was surprised by how good it was! Although it is pretty formulaic, there are enough scenes in it (like the ferry scene) that were done differently from how I'd seen them before that you are kept involved all through the movie. Also, the whole cast is excellent - even Ashley Judd who I usually don't like. Definitely watchable more than once.
