Summary: Disturbing as hell, a quality film
Review: After talking with my friends about how crazy the people living in the Appalachian Mountains are, I was told to rent the move Deliverance. I was told this would satisfy my sick interest in the weird, disgusting and unusual. Well, it's an awesome film. It's not a disgusting film, except for the fact that there is a deeply disturbing rape scene. But, this was otherwise a quality film. Personally, I find that the hillbillies from the Appalachians are some of the scariest kinds of people next to serial killers. The movie is basically about 4 succesful guys from Atlanta who go on a canoeing trip in this area and while resting, two of them come upon some hillbillies and get in a huge prediciment involving not only the hillibillies, but also the river and the problems it brings. Check it out for yourselfs. It won't give you nightmares, it will just astonish you.

Summary: Disturbing but excellent
Review: The performances were excellent and the story was riveting, but like any story that explores the depths of what human beings are capable of, this movie was deeply disturbing. This is a great movie, with the story, direction, location, and the acting all simply excellent. There are some truly great actors in this film, and they all give outstanding preformances; they really make the experience real by staying true to the characters as their circumstances - and the characters themselves - change over time. I found myself thinking about these characters and reliving the images in my mind long after the movie was over. It was very well done and intriguing, but I don't think I would watch it again (which is why I gave it 4 stars - I think it has little replay value). I just found it a little too disturbing.

Summary: Amazing
Review: The last time I rented movies, I got Deliverance and Play Misty For Me. While the latter didn't thrill me, Deliverance was stunning. I never took my eyes off the screen; I didn't dare.

One thing that I'd like to add to these other reviews is that the ending of this movie was one of the best endings of any movie, ever. It was thought provoking and interesting as opposed to the standard grand climax.

They don't make movies like they used to. Enjoy the classics.

Summary: Gripping, Unpredictable, and Fantastic!
Review: When I first saw this movie, it took me by total surprise. I walked around in a daze the next day, shocked by the adventure I had just been a part of.

Deliverance is a film that dives straight to the root of man's instinct to survive under adverse and dangerous conditions. I found myself joining in on the conversation between these four men and their ordeal. Yet I was as shocked and scared as their characters were.

The acting was superb, the script was riveting, and the suspense was unending. This movie could not possibly have been better and I have never been the same person since viewing it.

Summary: Haunting tale concerning the savage nature of man!
Review: Deliverance VHS~ Jon Voight is a disturbing tale about four Atlanta businessmen that take a "canoe" trip. What they encounter is a world ruled by nature and horribly inbred people. The boy whom is the banjo player does not look human in any shape or form and leaves a horrific etching on your memory. The dueling banjo/guitar scene is masterful and the scene were one of the men is being raped at gunpoint are very vivid and extremely potent. Burt Reynolds is definitely the star of the movie and his depiction of Lewis; the lone hunter/gatherer is spellbinding to the point of being legendary. I sometimes have to remind myself that he is playing a role and not being himself. I would not definitely recommend this movie as I see this a groundbreaking cinema that deals with the savagery that lies within the hearts of men.

Summary: Squeal Like A Pig
Review: One of the greatest movies ever made. John Boorman and Vilmos Ziggy did a fantastic job in portraying Dickey's book. It was a pleasure working all the guys, Burt, Ned, John and Ronny. Looking forward to a much discussed reunion ( 30 years ).

Summary: Delivers in spades
Review: I really must take issue with those who castigate the film as an overtly anti south film. The canoeists are hardly portrayed in a sympathetic light but superbly characterised they are. The script was typical of the seventies very well written and true to the times cynical. Maybe it takes a 'foreigner' to grasp the U.S culture and Boorman does a great job, especially when you compare his astuteness with the plainly ignorant way contemporary American directors cover other nations stories. Interesting to see the way Walter Hill covers similar ground in Southern Comfort.

Summary: WEIRDEST MOVIE I EVER SAW!
Review: This is a fantastic movie, and was entirely weird. Not supernatural weird, but weird because this stuff could really happen to people. The directors of The Blair Witch Project borrowed a lot from this movie, and referred to it many times. Even though I liked this movie, I liked Blair Witch better because people thought it was a true story. This movie had well known actors etc. Fantastic movie, a haunting classic.

Summary: Ned's hog-calling skills under scrutiny
Review: I don't get it... why do I find the "squeal like a pig" scene to be funny instead of disturbing? There's Ned Beatty's unfortunate character Bobby getting, um, violated by some hillbilly sicko right there in front of me, and I'm laughing like a mental patient. The lines spoken, the "magic of the moment"... it's more amusing than appalling to me. But, be it disturbing to most and strangely amusing to others, it's a moment one is never likely to forget.

But, other than the "hog-calling" scene, I rather enjoyed this action-drama. The "Dueling Banjos" scene at the beginning comes in a close second as the most memorable part of the film. Then there's the surprising performance of Burt Reynolds as the pseudo-nature-boy Lewis. Until I finally saw it for myself, I had no idea he was capable of dramatic acting. My preconceptions of his limitations, built up by my endless viewings of the "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Cannonball Run" flicks were brushed aside with one swift movement by his efforts in 'Deliverance'.

One thing's for sure: I'll never look at river rafting in quite the same light again. I may have little sympathy for Ned, but at least I can relate to how many beachgoers felt after watching 'Jaws'...

'Late...
