Summary: The uncomfortable thrill ride
Review: I saw this movie for the first time 1/73 not knowing anything about the movie except that it involved a canoe trip.I left speechless and the uneasy feelings stayed with me much like Jaws, for weeks.I saw it again last night with a friend who's a movie buff and had never seen it.He was very much moved by this film and asked me to leave it with him so that he can re watch it.So much has been said about the assault scene and what it involves and it is unfairly labled for that particular scene. This is about adventure, friendship, fear, and having to step up to the plate and take charge.Difficult situations arise and the film makes you ask yourself "what would I have done".I feel this is one of the top 10 movies of the 70's and on my top 10 all time favorites. If you can find someone who has never seen this, surprise and shock them. They'll hope they never run into Bill Mckenny on a nice walk through the woods. Now lets you just drop them pants!!!!

Summary: Man's Law Vs. Natural Law
Review: This is one of the great films period that was produced in the seventies. It's hard to pigeonhole this film into a single genre(most put into action/adventure) because it tackles so many high-minded themes. The film concerns itself with four Atlanta businessmen, Ed (John Voight), Lewis(Burt Reynolds), Bobby(Ned Beatty), and Drew (Ronny Cox) who decide to take an apparently innocuous canoe trip up a wild northern Georgia river that will soon be converted into a man-made lake. All goes well for our, for the most part, novice outdoorsman until they encounter some mountain-folk upriver who violate one of the party members. It is from there that the film takes an ominous turn. The survival of the group depends on them making choices between man's law, which doesn't really exist in the untamed world they currently occupy, or the law of the wild, which goes against their ingrained morality but is more condusive to their surviving in their current predicament. The cast here is uniformly excellent. John Voight is effective as the family man who is confronted with choices he never thought he'd have to make. Burt Reynolds was never better before or since as the philosopher/outdoorsman(Reynolds was seriously considered for an Oscar nomination until he posed for a then notorious spread for "Playgirl" magazine). Ned Beatty embodies the out-of-his element character perfectly. Ronny Cox is excellent as the conscience of the group. Also good is Bill McKinney as one of the ominous mountain-men who accost the group. It should also be noted that author James Dickey appears here as the sherriff and Ed O'Neill in a non-speaking part as a sherriff's deputy. Director John Boorman does an excellent job here with great photography, snappy editing, and a moody banjo music score.

Summary: gets kinda freaky, but good DVD and movie anyway
Review: All you have to do is read the title.... there's not much more to say because this movie is hard to articulate. The "Dueling Banjos" was nice. What? I know. I'm making this review as though I don't like the movie. I'm trying to make the movie sound like a "classic". It....sort of is.

Summary: Scary
Review: This movie, though in itself isn't a scary scary movie, it's a scary idea that will make anyone shiver. The thought of being raped by another man jsut makes me go insane so I would never...never venture into west Virginia. The whole banjo playing was just perfect. I advise anyone who has a strong stomach to watch this...and if you don't watch it too!

Summary: good
Review: Good movie, but I was expecting more action and horror. I've never read the book, but I've heard people say this is a good movie, and I've also heard it's name pop up in a couple other movies (the Blair Witch Project and Wrong Turn) so I decided to check it out. I was expecting this movie to be scary but it really wasn't. The only scary thing about this movie is that you know something like this really can happen in real life. The rape scene was also disturbing but after that it seemed like nothing else happened. The acting was good, but like I said before, the movie just lacked action. I found myself sitting there saying "Ok, when is something gonna happen??" a few times, and when the movie ended I was like "Is that it?!?!" It was a good movie but I was a little dissapointed.
