Summary: Not a war movie fan
Review: I don't like war. I don't like war movies. When it came out in theaters I had no interest in seeing this movie. But this isn't your average film about the glorious and indomitable USA. Instead it is a beautifully filmed story about the American spirit, courage, love, and friendship. The characters are superbly developed, humor is expertly interwoven with tragedy, and the realistic scenes of death and destruction leave you with a horrific sense of patriotism. Whether you watch it for its component of romance, action, or history, it is sure to please.

Summary: What a Waste!
Review: Very disapointed in this movie...if it weren't for the battle scenes I would have written it totally off! The love triangle was absolutely stupid as were all the women in it (retired female Marine here). My husband and kids (ages 14-18) also preferred the battle scenes and shared my opinions about the sappy love story! Too bad, I really looked forward to it. "Memphis Belle" was much better. Can't wait to see that on DVD! Thanks....

Summary: Tora Tora Tora was better
Review: Why is it the producers or director felt they had to put in a love triangle? Do we need that in a movie about Pearl Harbor? I don't think so. Someone said it was a perfect telling of the story? Are you kidding? Were you there? I doubt it. This triangle only detracted and made the movie longer than it needed to be. I won't buy this movie because of the love triangle. the action sequences, music, sound, and acting were outstanding. To bad the contrived love triangle drug down the movie.

Summary: Of Love & War
Review: It reminded me of Titanic. A tragic historic event clouded with a love story. The action scenes were fast paced with good special effects but the romance within the movie slowed down the whole pace. The interviews of real survivors, and accounts of the attack from witnesses, that follow the end of the movie are worth watching.

Summary: What Will Hollywood Trivialize Next?
Review: It's amazing how far Hollywood fatcats will go to make a huge buck. It's downright disrespectful to take anyone, especially a few KIDS who can't act to retell (in their own way) perhaps the biggest event in our nation's history (9/11 notwithstanding). Why take a historical event & throw in a love story? Who cares? Again, WHO CARES? Any one of our treasured WWII vets would surely puke at this terrible farce. To boot, the movie [is not very good], and the CGI gets old really fast. I know most want to see this picture, so be my guest. Be prepared for a massive letdown.

Summary: Embarrassing Movie, Awful History
Review: I don't usually weigh in with my opionions in writing reviews (in fact this is my first), but this movie necessitates it.

I was actually embarrassed watching this movie. That dog-fighting scene where Affleck's character told Hartnett's character to "break left" (or right, I don't remember) was especially embarrassing to watch. I think it's funny how some writers feel they have to insert extraneous (and stupid) dramatics into what is already exciting history. And the scene where the downed American pilots fought the Japanese in China is almost certainly pure fabrication. Personally I feel this is a disservice to the real-life Doolittle pilots who were captured (and some executed) by the Japanese.

The history was pretty horrendous. It was even worse than the asinine forced so-called "love story". It's too bad, because I actually think Affleck is a talented actor, and the movie could have been so much much better. At least the special effects were impressive, and is about the only thing impressive in this movie.

I think it's pretty sad how some people, maybe even most, like to learn their history from Hollywood movies as opposed to picking up a book. Unfortunately these people will never know the real history of Pearl Harbor, or anything else for that matter.

Summary: NOT a bad movie at all
Review: I have to agree with "Kev4me" in that this movie is not nearly as horrible as the critics claimed it to be. Alright, yes, the love story was pretty bad, but I think this movie was every bit as good as "Titanic," which got excellent reviews. "Pearl Harbor" is historically accurate, and that's what's important. It grasps the December 7th tragedy at Pearl Harbor extremely well, and the special effects are outstanding. This is my imput: If you're going for the love story, pick a different movie to satisfy you. If you're going for the historical facts and the opportunity to have a better understaning of the December 7, 1941 attacks, then "Pearl Harbor" is an excellent choice.

Summary: A DVD-SET WORTHY OF THE WORD "COMMEMORATIVE EDITION!"
Review: PEARL HARBOR still remains the best film released in the year 2001. Not only does it present the stories of the men and women who served at Pearl Harbor on that fateful day in December accurately (and adding a glimmer of humanity with a well-crafted fictional romance story kicked into the mix), but, in the wake of the September 11th attacks, America needs stories like this: seeing people who saw a tragic event take place, but they are able to move on to great glory, as we assuredly will. It is also great to see the best film of 2001 receive a lavish 2-Disc release. The film itself looks incredible in 2.35:1 Widescreen, and has four different sound options. The two documentaries are well-crafted and dramatic (A fifty-minute behind the scenes feature and the History Channel Documentary "Unsung Heroes of Pearl Harbor"). It also features two stirring Theatrical Trailers, a preview of National Geographic's PEARL HARBOR: BEYOND THE MOVIE, and the music video to Faith Hill's exceptional song "There You'll Be." Anyone who loves films and DVD Videos will find this a great addition to their collection. I guarantee it! Grade: A+

Summary: One of the great bombs of all time.
Review: Everything in this movie is bad, the acting, the color, the special effects, the credits are even horrible. Not since Showgirls has there been this kind of awful film making. It is, of course, laughable in all areas...no one scene can be singled out for its non cinematic style and bad acting. Ben Aflik once more proves he cannot be considered an actor of any stature. He should go back to whatever he was doing before Good Will Hunting.

All the others are terrible. Buy this and you buy travesty and trivia. An insult to the vets and even the Japanese.

Summary: As far as movies go...
Review: If you were looking to this movie for historical accuracy, you might as well have watched the documentaries over Pearl Harbor. People have to consider the factors. When was the movie released? May around the time teenagers got out. Who was the movie generally targeted to? Teenagers...just look at the leads and there's your answer.

I'm not knocking the leads because I'm actually a pretty big fan of Josh Hartnett (that's gone back to the Faculty and did NOT start with this movie). Because of the role, he's been catapulted into a bunch of other movies. Kate Beckinsale did a good job with her acting. The true disappointment was Cuba Gooding, Jr. because his acting did NOT need to be stifled and there needed to be more of it. I wouldn't say that his moments in the movie were a waste, except I wish there was a little more to his role. Jon Voight was great as the president.

Here's my main point. If you're looking for historical accuracy, this probably isn't the best movie for you. The love story is a little lax, but there are actors who stand out...i.e. Josh Hartnett, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Jon Voight, and James King. Basically, watch and then judge for yourself. It's only my opinion.
