Summary: My favorite movie ever!
Review: This movie is incredibly awesome, you have to see it. The special effects, like running up walls and such, are not so overdone that they shatter the movie's sense of reality, and the story is very engrossing, with likable characters. The fight scenes are sort of like the Matrix on crack, and if you talk to different people chances are each will have a different opinion on which one was best, so there are definitely no duds in this film (personally, I liked the first fight in the movie most)

Review: I didn't see this until recently and was stunned by the beautifully choreographed fight scenes, the scenery, and the story line. To be honest, I did have a little trouble following the story but didn't really care because the visual effects were so good. This film definitely qualified for Best Picture, and deserved it a lot more than Gladiator did (although I really wanted Chocolat to win).A warning - you may have to see it twice in order to read the subtitles without being distracted by the visuals! Not a bad thing, it's just that the visual beauty of the film often caused me to miss the subtitles.

Summary: How Did "Gladiator" Beat Out This Film for Oscar?
Review: Joyce also saw this one with me. She has not seen many subtitled movies and wasn't crazy about the idea when I first proposed seeing this film. The fact that it was martial arts didn't set her afire either. I assured her though that I normally hate martial arts movies but we absolutely had to see this film, that this director, Ang Lee, made no junk films. Joyce was absolutely as enthralled as I was from beginning to end with this epic film. There are two love stories that are quite involving plus it features two women as incredible warriors in storyline that verges on fable or myth. That you see the 2 women in action throughout the film, made our day. In fact, the next week we went to the movies, I heard Joyce recommending to a guy in the ticket line that he skip whatever he was planning on seeing and see this movie instead.

Summary: It gives a new meaning to what we call "action movies"
Review: In recent years many people in the movie business tried to make a special martial arts movie.If you take aside speedy hi-tech thriller The Matrix though , all their other efforts lacked the depth needed to be something more than plain funny. Then Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon was released. The epic tale of two women whose lifes change dramatically quick during a fight-race over an ancient sword is a once-in-a-lifetime movie experience. Ang Lee was clever enough to place his story in it's naturall homeland,China , a country with one of the richest martial arts culture in the world. He also let his actors speak their mothertongue , making what we see on our screens feel even more true and geniun . Beautifull landscapes are being combined harmonically with over-the-edge fight sequences . Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh have never been better but do pay extra attention to newcomer Ziyi . I'm sure we are going to see her a lot more often in movies in the near future. As for the ending , it's probably the most touching and visual stunning one i ever saw.

Summary: Box office hits are usually mediocre films, like this one.
Review: It is a fact that when a lot of people like one movie it is because A) It is a great movie, B) It was made to please the average viewer, hence it is mediocre. Ok, this film lacked the most important thing of all: a strong plot. Most people are morons, so it is ok if you liked this movie. Intelligent people with sensitivity do not like this film.

Summary: Much too overhyped
Review: This movie was a major dissapointment, all the so-called special effects had been done in previous kung-fu movies and in some cases done twice as well. The battles are impressive in some cases but if you want to buy a movie for excellent kung-fu fights such as you'd find in this then you should buy Legend 2, it has nearly the same special effect's only done in a much more entertaining fasion then this movie. All i can say is that basically Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon got much to good of a review because of the propaganda that was put out before its release.

Review: "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," directed by Ang Lee, is one of the most amazing films I have seen in my life. Set in feudal China, CTHD is many things: two interconnected love stories, a thrilling action film, a sweeping historical epic, a subtle fantasy, a story of female empowerment and nonconformity, a crime drama, and a philosophical and spiritual experience. Superb performances and astounding production details further elevate CTHD into the highest realm of film artistry. CTHD is sumptuous to look at: the cinematography, sets, costumes, and props (in particular, the majestic sword known as the Green Destiny) are amazing. The many martial arts scenes involve "Matrix"-style leaps into the fantastic, but with a more elegant, mystical touch. But enough about the amazing visual aspects of the film. This is at its heart a very moving drama, and the stars are superb. Zhang Ziyi and Chang Chen are charming, and frequently fiery, as the young lovers. But it is the relationship between the older, perhaps wiser pair (played by Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun Fat) that I found most engaging. Chow Yun Fat brings a serene dignity to his role as the spiritual warrior, and the luminous Michelle Yeoh delivers a wonderfully multilayered performance as the woman who loves him. CTHD has some sparkling comedic moments. But the film also explores such serious issues as honor, duty, and the quest for spiritual enlightenment. This is a truly great film; I have no doubt that, decades after its release, CTHD will be recognized as a classic.

Review: I'n not a fan of the martial arts, action movies, or even films; after seeing this I am converted on all fronts, and I am going out of my way to write this only because I think time will prove this film to be a masterpiece. Every aspect of this film has been given such meticulous attention: the fight choreography and special effects repeatedly upstage each other with jaw-dropping skill; scenes between the two leads are among the finest acting I've seen on film or stage, played with such tenderness and passion; the resonance of the story ricochets from the fairy-tale reality of the film to today's talented and impatient youth, unwilling to sacrifice anything to master their talents and too young to find the need for humility. It is a deeply moving, breathtaking, heartbreaking ride. Whatever you do, take it.

Review: ...totally unbelievable ...with wonderful cinematography. But ...nonetheless. The film loses all credibility when characters start flying around rooftops in fake-looking combat scenes. Please!
