Review: Ang Lee has directed a cinematically beautiful and artistically creative film. Michelle Yeoh is a standout performer both in the dramatic sense and especially in her beautifully performed martial arts. Thank you for introducing her to American audiences. Chow Yun Fat, as always, was wonderful. Cinematography was the best I've ever seen.

Summary: Best Movie Ever Made
Review: Most people at first glance think they will either not like the sub-titles or that this movie is a Jackie Chan type movie. First of all, I liked the sub-titles in the movie. I got used to them as did most people within twenty minutes, and they added an authenticity feel to the movie. Without the sub-titles the movie would probably have been a Jackie Chan styled movie. The story of this movie is based around a young girl named Jen. She is un-happy with her life. She is forced to marry a man she does not love, and she runs away. There are many sub-plots to this movie but that is the main story. This movie did an incredible job mixing Asian myth with real people. The fighting sequences are well done and fun to watch. A movie everyone can enjoy.

Summary: Tiger Roars
Review: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is director Ang Lee's tribute to the Kung Fu movies of the 60's and 70's. While those movies were high on action, low on plotlines, Mr. Lee combines both into a visually stunning, intricately woven, action packed film. The story takes place in the 19th century and revolves around a sword called "The Green Destiny". Chow Yun-Fat plays Li Mu Bai, the greatest of all warriors who was in possession of the sword and then gives it to a friend as he has found enlightenment and no longer wishes to fight. The sword is delivered by his longtime friend Yu Shu Lien played by Michelle Yeoh. While at their friend's house, the sword is stolen by mysterious figure who turns out to be the innocent looking aristocratic daughter of a governor, Jen played by the exquisite Zhang Ziyi. In the first fight scene, a disguised Jen and Yu Shu Lien fly across rooftops and engage in battle. This scene is among the most breathtaking and beautifully choreographed fight scenes in movie history. In fact the scene is more ballet than kung fu. Li Mo Bai is forced to return to battle for The Green Destiny. In a fight scene with Jen, he realizes she is no ordinary warrior, but one with special abilities. He wants her to become his student, but she refuses. Another fight scene that takes place on the tops of bamboo trees is equal to the roof top scene. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the best combination of action and drama to be released in a long time and the fighting scenes are not there for gratuity, but serve a purpose. Mr. Lee did a brilliant job with this film and hopefully he will try to make another in this genre.

Review: Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is a foreign film that is great in so many ways that it puts Gladiator (who won the Oscar for best movie and the MTV award for best movie also) to shame. The DVD is great because there is an English audio track, as well as the original Mandarin audio track with subtitles. The cinematography was breathtaking, especially the backgrounds (the mountains), and the fight in the bamboo trees was great also. It must of taken forever to learn how to fight like they did. If you're not in for a lot of talk, but more action, this movie isn't for you. But if you want a reasonable story with great cinematography and action scenes, this is the movie/DVD to see!

Summary: Director's commentary sucks. Bad.
Review: Great movie. Great transfer. Great sound. Nice dub even. I love this movie but...the director's commentary track will drive you to the brink of foaming insanity. The track features director Ang Lee along with his POMPOUS, SWOLLEN, BUFOON producer/writer JAMES SCHAMUS. I got the idea that had it been just Ang, the commentary would have been informative and interesting, but, the OVERBEARING BLOAT that is SCHAMUS just plain ruins it. I cannot express just how much SCHAMUS SUCKS. It's still a great DVD, but beware.

Summary: VHS Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Review: This movie is one the finest made in a long time coming and now after all the wait it finally comes out in VHS format with English dub it. This destroy a beautiful movie, not only are the character speaking with no chinese accent, but their changing the words, like saying Beijing instead of Peking, ok so the city is now called Beijing, but was this done to just please somebody, or in the scene when the lover leaves the girl and she tells the maid not to worry it was only a bat, in chinese she said cat not bat. Mandarin is a beautiful language chosen by the director for a purpose, I cannot speak this language, but I like to see a movie in its true version not changed just to make a sale. Am glad I rented before purchasing, because I won't. As for the DVD version I hope its better since I would like to add this to my collection.

Review: What amazed me the most about Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was obviously the fight scenes. I have never seen fights this spectacular since The Matrix. They are probably even better! Anyway, but lets say you take out the action... and what do you got? A very... very... boring movie. Crouching Tiger is pretty long. It mixes action with drama, etc, and mostly does a great job. But I found the story to be a bit confusing and kinda cluttered. As far as I know, the movie revolves around a young girl who is being forced to get married. But she has great fighting potential, and a great master wants her to be his student. But she is a sorta confused person and wont be true to herself. There is much more to be told, but I don't want to spoil anything. Anyway, the movie was definently good. It can get a little on the boring side occasionally, but if you stick with it, your bound to find something to like about it. You should definently buy the movie.

Summary: avrege and a little boring
Review: This movie was fast in the begining and I figured it would remain good but it got a little dull in the middle to the point were it was hard for me to pay attention but then it got better at the end. It was boring here and there and fast paced some other times. I say take it or leave it but i was dissipointed because thought it would be better then it was. Maybe I was just expecting too much but who could blame me it got so many good ratings and awards.

Review: Ang Lee covers all the bases here and finally gives the American audience a good platform to showcase the greatest actor in the world, Yun-Fat. I can't think of a single bad thing to say abouth this film. Thats rare!

Summary: Incredible Movie, Incredible Effects
Review: I loved this movie, I just bought the DVD. The plot is wonderful, anyone who says that its thin, just doesn't understand it. period. The effects are marvelous, and its FANTASY, a lot of people say its phony... of course its phony its fantasy its not supposed to be real. The acting is mediocre but I think its just becasue of the dubbing. The dubbing however is done nicely.
