Summary: No mention of the rice
Review: The Sticky had high expectations for this movie as he hope that the true story of the Sticky Rice would be told. Though historians have for centuries tried to bury it, the Sticky Rice has for eons played a big part in the development of Kung Fu. For example, the Shaolin Monks used the preparation of sticky rice as part of their training. Each monk would individually kick every grain of rice to each other so as to get that soft, gooey texture, go around kicking and punching the ingredients which made the stuffing and even shave their hair off so they could wrap the leaves around their heads to get the right shape when it came to wrapping it all together.So it was a massive disappointment when the Sticky saw the final result. Sure, the action sequences were cool, them flying around kicking and punching everyone but there was no mention of the Sticky Rice! The only consolidation was that Ang Lee made homage's to classic Sticky Rice movies. When Chow did his funky healing techniques it was reminded me of the Sticky Rice kid, when Mr Miyagi healed Daniel-san in similar fashion. Let's hope Ang Lee corrects the situation as he embarks on the prequel - Sticky Rice, Groaning Stomach.

Review: Good effects movie but definately not to everyones taste. The martial arts are good, but the Matrix is better. The effects of flying around like gravity barely exists, are lost on most viewers. And when you watch it again, you realise that there really isn't much of a story to it. I'd advise renting first.

Summary: Beautiful!
Review: Wow! I can't believe that there is actually a martial arts movie with great acting! The movie is just great, and the DVD is cool, it has those extra features, I was surprised to learn that the "flying effects" were not done by computer graphics, but rather with cables. This is a mixture of fantasy and martial arts. The fighting scenes and chases are spectacular, and this is a beautiful film in that it was shot perfectly. And all the actors did a great job. This has the best elements of Oriental, American and European cinematography.

Summary: Martial arts movie for people who hate martial arts movies!
Review: Wow was I disappointed when I finally saw this highly touted clunker. Where do I start? The silly Disneyesque run-up-the-walls & hop-over-the-rooftops effects were so exagerrated & artificial they became tedious really fast. I was soon longing for for a bit of Zatoichi or Drunken Master. The "plot" is mostly cliched melodramatics performed by people standing around making faces & screaming at each other. Convoluted, shallow & predictable, it's all been done a thousand times before, often in the days of silents, probably even by Valentino. There does seem to be a market out there (shudder). Barnum was right!

Summary: Very Enjoyable.
Review: I have only recently started buying DVD's. This is the first DVD I bought after ALREADY seeing the movie. It is a very enjoyable movie. My policy in reviewing movies is to NOT tell you about the story or anything about the movie. I do not wish to ruin the surprise factor. The movie has some funny parts, sad parts, and exciting parts. I wish I could tell you about it; but go and see it, or better yet buy the DVD. I have only ever given 5 stars to one movie (Amelie); but this deserves at least 4 stars.

Summary: Good Movie ..... ALMOST
Review: I'll be brief - it was a believable storyline (when I finally
understood it ), and the fighting sequences were right on the money. What spoiled this movie for me was TOO DAMM MUCH flying through the air; not even the best Shaw Brothers movies relied
on that much aerial antics (and those of us who know the name "Shaw Brothers" would understand). Moral: "The Matrix" is slowly becoming a double-edged sword
where special effects are concerned (in my book).

Review: Heck with the story...Greek tragedy? What are the editors of amazon smoking, anyway? Nonetheless, a very pretty chopsocky flick with flying kung fu out the wazoo, mostly done by women. You can get up and watch your popcorn in the microwave or do your dishes thru the mid-movie romance fugue, too. How considerate of Lee, though he might have done as well with the word "Intermission".

Summary: Crouching Chimpanzee, Flying Gumby
Review: After hearing and believing the hype for this movie, I really wanted to see it bad. Having missed it at the cinema, I decided to wait until it was released on DVD. I went to great lengths to reserve a copy at my local video store so I could bring it home and watch it at home on my home cinema. What fool in his right mind would really be amazed by flying monkeys and a down right boring and uninteresting plot.
While some of the fight scenes seemed to have been inspired by the currently in vogue film Matrix, it does lend itself to becoming a self-parody of immense proportions.
The scenes with characters flying in tree-tops and onto rooftops made me feel extremely uncomfortable when I saw it. It's just so ridiculously unbelievable.
If it were made as a fantasy film in the tradition of the X-Men or Star Wars I could have accepted it.
This movie failed to impress me at all. I'd rather watch that Japanese TV show from the 80's called Monkey-that made more sense.

Summary: Deserved all those Oscars
Review: There's a whole world in this movie that you could get lost in, from the tranquil surroundings to the gentle flow of the score, interwoven so beautifully into the plot that the development appears seamless. The swordfights are pure artistry, and fans of the martial arts would appreciate the deadly elegance of each stroke dealt by these masters of the craft.
Ang Lee brings the wonder of Ancient China to life in this wonderfully directed and put together film.

Summary: Left Me With A Certain Feeling
Review: As an ardent fan of the cinema, I often find myself overflowing with emotion upon leaving the theater. Movies have the ability to make me extremely happy or sad as the case may be. This movie somehow made me very hungry. I left the theater with a strong craving for kung pao chicken. I don't mean this in a racist way, as the ethnicity of the cast may or may not have had anything to do with my culinary craving. Unfortunately the restaurant I went to was not very good so I cannot give this movie more than three stars. Here is me trying to speak Hawaiian: Huki luki wakaha lau. I don't know if I actually said anything or not, but there is a good chance since there are only 13 letters in the Hawaiian alphabet. I know this because I'm smart.
