Summary: A hero who, never was.
Review: In 1776, Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson), a hero of the Fort Wilderness campaign, now a widower living in South Carolina with seven children to raise on his own, is once again confronted with war. In "The Patriot", Mel try to emulate the epic "Braveheart", but the final product is a non-sense violent drama of revenge and hate. He was a peasant father of seven; (in his real life, he is the father of seven, too) coincidence? The murder of his elder son and his maid, makes him a blood thirst beast for the enemy. This is the flame for its war participating, not the patriot man. Other critics, may not be of the pleasant of the readers, but are actual fault factors of this film. 1) Do not framed on historical supporting heroes as other like "Braveheart". 2) The two-fired houses are duplicated events in the film. 3) The boys with the arms, firing and killing the enemy soldiers with his father, were as incredible as impossible. To summarize, violent scenes, an erratic plot, absent of secondary characters with stories, makes this film a cult of the hero, who never was.

Summary: 165 minutes in another world
Review: My criteria for a good movie is : Take me out of my daily routine for the duration of the movie. The Patriot is just that. I know diddly squat about American history, but if I wanted to learn something about it, I'd read a book. Multi-million dollar movies are made to entertain more than educate. Watch it as the fiction it is, and I'm sure you'll spend a magnificent 165 minutes in another world. A good mix of action, emotion, and all goodies you like to find in an entertaining movie. Enjoy it.

Summary: A loyally patriotic movie
Review: The American Revolution has always fascinated me and "The Patriot" is a spectacular drama on the big screen. If you are looking for strict historical accuracy then this film will disappoint you. However I concur with Tom Reynolds that movies with a historical theme do indeed inspire people to refer to other sources to gain further information. My love of history came about by reading historical novels as a child and watching Disney productions like the Swamp Fox, (starring Leslie Nielsen), about Francis Marion the legendary Carolinian guerilla leader in the Revolutionary War. In fact the central character in this movie, Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson), known as "The Ghost," is loosely based on Marion-we even see an ambush on redcoats in the swamps of South Carolina. The British cad, Colonel William Tavington (Jason Isaacs),is also rather loosely based on Col.Banastre Tarleton, commander of the Green Dragoons, whom some historians believe has been demonised unfairly.Certainly Tavington's display in herding villagers, including women and children, into their local church and then setting fire to the building is more akin to a Nazi-style action than something from the Revolutionary War, which is not to deny that atrocities occured-as they do in all wars. Indeed, I think the challenge for American movie-makers is to be a little less patriotic in their future renditions of this important conflict between colonists and mother country. It has to be remembered there were many fine Americans who were loyalists and many of them were also treated disgracefully before, during and after the great conflict of 1775-83. I would really like to see a future Revolutionary film produced like the Civil War's "Gettysburg," which was far more balanced in the treatment given to the opposing sides in another, later, great conflict on American soil. Having said that, "The Patriot" is a good action-packed adventure with some great photography. If it manages to interest people to further look at an important period in America's history then perhaps we should not complain too much about historical inaccuracies, particularly when US film producers use a West Aussie, Heath Ledger, for a major part, whilst the main actor, Mel Gibson, has spent so much of his life in Australia that we claim him as one of our own!

Summary: Lethal Hatchet Part 4
Review: So sue me, I stole that by-line from Newsweek. But it's the most apt description I've heard. It really is a Mel Gibson revenge flick, with him running around with a couple dozen hatchets and rifles rather than a semi-automatic Glock. Don't get me wrong, I loved this movie, but it wasn't historically accurate, and for anyone who wants a truly good Colonial period drama(I'm one of those), they'll have to keep looking. The Last of the Mohicans didn't do it(yes, I know that that was the French and Indian War), and this one doesn't do it either. It's pure action, pure revenge, pure adrenaline. Same as almost any Mel Gibson picture. The scene where he eliminates a 20 man British contingent is definitely a cool sequence; The follow up to this movie should have Bruce Willis and be called "Die Patriot". Ok, bad joke, but basically, this is an adventure film that is fun to watch, as it is in the vein of all my favorite adventure films, like Die Hards 1-3 and Lethal Weapons 1-4. Cool movie, not exactly Oscar material. Heck, not even Golden Globe material.

Summary: Better than Gladiator
Review: This film has been bashed, and praised, and didn't really tear up the box office either. However, it's good. Sure, it does follow the Braveheart formula, just change the time period, but it was well worth the three hour time investment. The film surpasses Gladiator in terms of character development. I cared about these characters, but whether Russell Crowe lived or died in Gladiator didn't matter at all to me. Both are fine films, however, The Patriot is simply a better story.

Summary: What's this talk about Braveheart...
Review: Okay, I've heard too many people say this is a mirror of Braveheart's story line. Is that only because Mel Gibson is in the movie? You know when I was at the theater I was enjoying every second of the movie. From the fight scenes to the touching story line. It kept me on the edge of my seat...and I wanted Mel Gibson's character to put an end to the villain. The end was even good for once. Hollywood has some rotten endings these days and this one passed well in my book. All I can say is watch this movie, and you'll be glad I said WATCH IT!

Summary: so-so
Review: i've read some of the reviews.. some of them are really harsh.. some of them give too much praise. this movie is so-so.. go see the movie.. it's a good movie.. but i wouldn't ever call it the best movie of the summer.. throughout the movie i was waiting for something more.. it was supposed to contend with gladiator.. i think gladiator towered over this movie in all perspectives... the patriot.... don't look for any historically accurate details... if you think that's bad.. a lot of movies are historically inaccurate... look at braveheart.. there are some differences from the truth there... Yes.. watch the patriot.. but do not expect anything too powerful or moving from it.. if you want to be moved... watch gladiator. but for a cheap action flick.. watch patriot.. patriot is not a true war film.. sure it's based on war.. but the war scenes were just a bit off.. there wasn't much of it.. i love war movies.. and the patriot is lacking in that department.. lacking of the battles and what's with mel gibon running off doing whatever he wants during the war sequence? i just chuckled when i saw that.. i want something more realistic! but oh well.. watch it.. i'll still buy it for dvd! hope it helps

Summary: Bla Bla
Review: The emotionally charged adventure The Patriot tells the story of Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson), a reluctant hero who is swept into the American Revolution when the war reaches his farm and the British endanger what he holds most dear. He takes up arms alongside his idealistic patriot son, Gabriel, and leads a rebel American Militia into battle against a relentless and overwhelming Redcoat army. In the process, he discovers that the only way to protect his family is to fight for a young nation's liberty. But his dark past haunts him.

Summary: Braveheart II : William Wallace Returns
Review: When I saw the previews for this film, I decided that this was a must-see summer movie. What with the disappointing (yet visually exciting) releases of Mission:Impossible 2 and X-Men, I was expecting a film that would surpass the other summer movies and surprise the viewers with a story that would capture and involve the audience while pleasing them with exciting visuals. Well, I guess it's time to wait until Mel tries again with a different movie based around a different premise. This movie was better the first time when it was called Braveheart. Although there were several new elements thrown in, the scene with Mel refusing to fight, the death of family members, and the riding with the troops carrying the flag was eerily similar to the movie that captured the academy awards for best director and best picture for Mel Gibson in 1995. I'm not saying that M:I 2 and X-Men were bad movies, but the stories were somewhat short of what movies should be coming with. Then again, These movies were pure eye candy...and so is The Patriot. The difference is, The Patriot makes you feel really patriotic...if only for a minute.
