Summary: A better than average movie
Review: First off let me say that it is just slightly better than average, I would actually give it 3-1/2 stars. The main flaw is that this is simply "Braveheart" reformulated to fit the american revolution. The second is that the movie completely tries to sugarcoat the whole slavery issue (I mean seriously, this was in the "Carolina's" after all, give me a break). The movie was the most predictable contrived sappy baloney I have seen in a while (the ending scene was ridiculous!). Also the story meandered confusingly, and the movie could have been at least a good 1/2 hour shorter. The great acting and incredible cinematography really helped pull this movie out of the garbage can though (I must be getting soft, the big budget actually helped win me over on this one). But all in all, if you actually have ~3 hours to kill, it is not a bad flick.

Summary: Worth seeing.
Review: If you are looking for a movie that delves deeply into social issues such as slavery or a historical movie about the Revolutionary War, then skip this movie, it isn't for you. If you want to see a movie about revenge with some good action shots, fight sequences and a little humor thrown in for good measure, then spend the money. Yes, this is an American version of Braveheart and the plot could have just as easily been in the Civil War. Nonetheless, if you are looking for excitement, great battle scenes and the hero winning in the end, Patriot will work for you nicely.

Summary: Movie is OK, but the score is not quality composition
Review: This movie in general was OK. I was disapointed that the indigenous people were left out. Native Americans are referred to several times in the script but not included in the actual film. Once again Hollywood tells a one sided story of some events in US history. The Native Americans were major part of the American Revolution being caught between the British Crown and the American Colonies. Once again the Ameircan Indians are thrown to the side except for the wonderful quill work on the powder horn sash worn by Mel Gibson.In other things, I think I was even more disapointed with the score by John Williams. This is not award winning quality composing, but I am sure he will get some awards anyway. There is no new composition. Any fan of John Williams like myself can hear the returning melodies and rhythms from Jurassic Park, and several Star War themes, not to mentioned many other themes of John Williams. The only good thing about the score is the attempt to have some authentic sounding historic music. But even some of that is badly orchestrated.

Summary: A MUST SEE MOVIE!
Review: I must say this is one of the best movies i have seen in a long time. i enjoyed the whole movie. it had me at the end of my seat until the end. It made me laugh, and it made me cry. it helped me realize what the war was like then. How terrible things were. it is a great educational video with a great cast with Mel Gibson and Heath ledger. I loved it and i wish for all of you to see it!

Summary: The Patriot
Review: The movie itself was not very good. It was very cheesy and did not follow a constant theme. One minute it is love story, war story, or revenge story. I was half-way through the film and turned it off. If you like corny and cheesy movies this is one for you. I take Gladiator over this one 100 to 1.

Review: I think that this was a very good movie about the history of the Revolutionary War. There are parts in the movie that are disgusting like someone's head gets blown off but it is really interesting to see what the war was like. I would say that the writer of the movie didn't like the British very much because it made the British look like selfish jerks. It is a good movie and I would persuade you all to buy it but right now it is real expensive ($111.99). I hope that this review was helpful to you.

Summary: Entertaining, but not history
Review: This is a typical Hollywood epic, it kept my interest and even left me wanting to learn more about the Revolutionary War. And who doesn't love to see those Limeys vanquished, right? But it has a few significant flaws: It presents a character so evil and devoid of even one redeeming quality that of course we want him dead -- the movie does our feeling and thinking for us. What fun is that? Secondly, it presents a too-rosy picture of slavery and race relations in those days. Conveniently, Mel Gibson's slaves are paid, and the thawing in icey relations between a white rebel and black rebel is sappier than an Afterschool Special.

Summary: Independence Day Redux
Review: I knew something was fishy when I saw the duo -- Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin -- but I was drawn by Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan) who wrote the screenplay. I'm not sure what this movie tries to be. It tries to pose itself as an epic, yet the story is shallow and characters superficial and 2-dimensional. You want to cheer for Gibson's character, Ben Martin, but he's certainly not as "cheerable" as Porter (Payback). You never learn much about the human element or drama because everyone serves as a stereotype (Slave, Reverend, The Loyalist, etc) and these characters are introduced and used only as needed. There could have been some wonderful opportunities to expand the Loyalist character (played by Adam Baldwin), yet all we see is 10 seconds of him troubling over whether he should set fire to the church. While Saving Private Ryan accurately (my guess -- how would I really know?) relentlessly portrayed the acute grimness of war with a semi-objective documentary style feel, and felt cold as a result, The Patriot is saddled by the two: Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, of Independence Day. They tried so hard to make the viewers want to cheer for us Americans that they've simplified everything else -- the support, the enemy, the setting, that it feels like I'm watching the LA Clippers game: underwhelming and predictable.

Summary: I liked it!
Review: It is hard to seperate yourself from the main character emotionally, after he is thrust into the conflict. Having grown children, made it easy for me to feel this man's anguish. I have watched this several times, and have yet to not shed tears when he beats the British brutally in the first confrontation, in front of his children. It isn't about politics or Patriotism at all. It is about being pushed to ones limits and reacting as would be expected when your family is miserably and deleberatly slaughtered. It is about the darker side of humananities instinct. Yes there is violence, it is about war after all. The sound of muskets firing is as realistic as the machine guns firing and casings dropping to the ground in Saving Private Ryan. It was very realistic and demonstrative of the evils of war. The lesson to be learned, is that violence is a sacred sacrafice that should only be used when there is no other alternative! It is well done and very interesting at all times!
