Summary: Great Fellas
Review: A contemporary classic stylishly directed by Martin Scorsese, it's among his finest two plus hours (and that's really saying something coming from the man who brought us Taxi Driver & Raging Bull!). He once again teams with Robert DeNiro to bring this seering tale of New York City's organized crime syndicate in the late 70's to life. The supporting cast includes Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco and Joe Pesci (in the scene-stealing performance that won him the Oscar). Based on the novel Wiseguy by Nicolas Pillegi (who co-wrote the script) Goodfellas follows the life of Henry Hill, a connected guy who lives out his criminal fantasy of being a member of the mob and eventually decends into drugs, which leads to his ultimate demise. The use of the oldies pop/rock soundtrack has often been immitated but never duplicated (though Pulp Fiction would be a comperable comparison). Beware: fans of The Godfather may be distraught in seeing their ideallic vision of mob life torn down brick by brick. Let there be no mistake, this mob movie stands unrivaled (though it's getting a push from the HBO series The Sopranos). I urge fans of this movie to check out The King of Comedy (another DeNiro/Scorsese masterpiece).

Summary: No Romanticizing Here
Review: Martin Scorcese is one of the finest directors of all time. He truly loves film and has fantastic insight into its history. In "Goodfellas" he blows apart the romance of the mob. No "Sopranos" or "Godfather" here (although "Godfather I" is perfection). Scorcese never telegraphs where a scene is going. Note the ghastly opening sequence. I saw this film in the movies, and the restaurant scene with Joe Pesci (I'm here to amuse you?, etc.) made me feel as if I was right there with all the feelings of outright fear. No film since the prisoner-of-war sequence in "The Deerhunter," where they play Russian roulette has made me feel this way. Unfortunately, the extreme visceral experience probably works best in a movie theatre. "Goodfellas" shows a violent, dangerous world that makes me proud to be a "working stiff sucker," a type of berating of honest citizens usually found in these types of movies. Prepare yourself for an intense experience by one of the master directors of cinema.

Summary: WHAT!
Review: I just knew the gods were messing with me when they took one of the most perfectly stylized and directed films ever and ruined it by making it so that you have to turn it over. Who ever is responcible for this travesty must make ammends. I wanted to cry when realized this was the case.

Summary: Best mob movie ever
Review: Move over Godfather. This is a true classic. The wit, the intesity, the personality... I love it. I've seen it so many times I've stopped counting. This is one of those movies that makes the bad look good - I was actually jealous when Henry Hill was saying how all those "goody-good people" who work for bum paychecks and take subway to work are "suckers and have no balls". Because it's so damn true to a certain degree.

What can i say - it's superb. Everything about this film is so electrifying - the directing, the writing, the acting. Even the soundtrack is awesome. If i had to find a flaw, i'd say that it is a bit too long, but the truth is, it grips you and those few hours pass by very quickly. It's not a movie for wusses sinse it's got enough gore and profanity to choke an elephant. Yet while so many times gore and profanity turn movies into chip thrill rides, they do magic for this one. I adore the way this movie is filmed - boldly and powerfully, caring only about relaying the truth and a good story and not about being politically correct.

Summary: Classic/The DVD design doesn't matter
Review: What can you say? DeNiro, Liotta, Pesci..it's a classic movie. One of the few movies I can watch over and over again. Sure, the DVD may not be loaded with extras and you have to flip the disc, but who cares? The story is what drives this movie and you get so involved you will gladly flip the disc. Highly recommended.

Summary: A Great Movie, Dissapointing DVD
Review: "Goodfellas" is a masterpiece, one of my favorite films and one of the best ever made. The DVD is very dissapointing though. When Warner Bros. released "Goodfellas" on DVD it was one of the very first titles released thats why the DVD is weak, after an hour you have to get up and turn the disc over, very annoying. Hopefully Warner Bros. will rerelease this movie on DVD but for now stick with the cassette. Besides the DVD though this is an amazing movie, amazing acting, directing, editing, music, everything.

Summary: One of the BEST ever, but DVD needs a re-release
Review: Hands down, this is one of the best movies ever made, as well as one of my favorites. The DVD needs to be re-released for an improved version. The movie is on two sides, which is no good. The extras are limited. The movies sound and color are average. However, die hard GOODFELLAS fans would like a better version to enjoy. Perhaps with commentary tracks, interviews ect. This would give us more info about the real life events the movie is based on.

Summary: The Next Godfather
Review: This movie is a truly powerful mobster movie. It is a hardcore action movie with all of the greatest features of a mafia movie. It is the second greatest gangster movie of all time, behind the rather large shadow of The Godfather. Joe Pesci is definitly the motivating comedic force behind this awesome movie, while DeNiro and Liota offer some great action scenes. I think it has a better story behind it than the Godfather did.
