Summary: What Was The Academy Drinking?
Review: Here is a film that falls under the catergory of "liking it because you think you should." The Academy obviously voted for this over-blown soap opera because it fit all of their "intellectual" catergories. "Ooooh, this movie is long, intellectual, has lots of sand and planes, and has nice looking people who are bascially dumb. Give it the Oscar!"

The biggest crime of all this, is that it took the Oscar away from Fargo, one of the best films of the nineties.

Summary: Stunning, simply stunning
Review: This movie is stunning, simply and speechlessly stunning. Ralph Fiennes is terrific as both young desert rogue and burn victim. For the last forty-five minutes of the movie, I was bawling. This from someone who is very sparing with her tears. Everything about this movie is incredible. . . the acting, the intertwining stories about love, the width and breadth of the scenery, simply everything. In nearly every scene in the movie, there are truths about humanity (or lack thereof), love, hope, and despair. They are all so great that I could never choose one as a favorite: the "wind" scene in the desert, the plane crash, the love scenes, the final "Thank you," the haunting words of Herodotus and Katharine. . . although I must agree that the final "Thank you" in the movie is among the best in cinematic history and Ralph Fiennes should have won "Best Actor" for those two words alone. This movie is pure cinema: intelligent, beautiful, exceeding well-made. I cannot recommend this movie highly enough to anyone who enjoys great cinema.

Summary: a once-in-a-lifetime masterpiece!
Review: ...nothing is more powerful than a love conquering every obstacle, never caring about everything else but follow what their hearts beat and tell them to do. I was overwhelmingly touched by the story and all the twists and turns...definitely a romantic movie to share with your soulmate...

Summary: Definately a favourite
Review: It is every aspect about this film which makes it my all time favourite. The cinematography, the beautiful backdrop of both the desert and italy, and the understated passion of the characters' romance.

Summary: An overated romantic melodrama set during WWII.
Review: A lot of much ado about very little. The story concerns a burn patient who may- or may not be - a war criminal. The patient, Ralph Fiennes, overacts throughout and has enough mannerisms and affectations to win an Oscar. Why he didn't win is beyond me. The plot is only so-so and falls to pieces at the end. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

Summary: THE BEST ROMANTIC MOVIE MADE IN THE LAST DECADES
Review: This movie is the best. Ever since I saw it on December 1996 it seemed to me it would probably win the Best Picture Oscar. The acting is sublime in addition to the cinematography which on the big screen was mesmerizing. It should have won Oscars for Fiennes and Scott-Thomas.The DVD is excellent, just missing on the extras. I hope they release the Criterion Collection version aready existing on laserdisc on DVD. Truly recommend it, you will see why it swept the Oscars that year.

Summary: One of the Greatest
Review: I am not surprised a lot of people dislike this movie. It is long and sometimes not very exciting, and unfortunately, most moviegoers have attention spans no longer than my thumb.

This movie is an epic and should be seen by anyone interested in a whole, complete story. Binoche stands out among the cast and I am glad she won an Oscar for her performance because she deserved it. I like this movie more than my wife does - and the hell with what Elaine Benes (on "Seinfeld") thinks! She's a character on a tv show! She's not real!

Summary: Juliette Binoche made the movie
Review: I'll be honest - when I watch this movie, the only character I care about is Hana, beautifully portrayed by Juliette Binoche. I am completely mesmerized by her performance and for once the Academy did something right by giving her an Oscar. Fiennes & Thomas left me cold and I didn't care what happened to them. Hana is the heart and emotion of the movie, everyone else is not.

Summary: A GREAT LOVE STORY
Review: 'The English Patient' is definitely on par with 'Doctor Zhivago'. At the center of each story is the universal human theme of looking for love, it can't get more realistic than that. We all long and dream and search for that magical moments, when we believe that we have finally been found by our true loves. What makes this movie great is the fact that it was able to convey this emotions. At the end of the movie, all the characters were alone again, the Nurse, the Thief, the Bomb Defuser, but their lives have been enhanced by their respective encounters. I think most of us can recognize some resemblance of that endings with real life.

Summary: Romatic
Review: This has got to be the most romantic movie ever made. It puts "love conquers all" to the test. The setting of this movie really made it work. Sublime acting from everyone, especially Juliette Binoche, who won a well-deserved Oscar.
