Summary: Well Put Together In Many Ways , But At Times Inaccurate
Review: What makes this film appealing is the level of grandeur we see in the innate replica of the ill-fated ship. The costumes of the first class are splendid, and the film captures the regality of the well-born and well-to do. But the inaccuracies are that a girl from first class would never have associated with a boy from steerage, and as the Discovery Channel has noted, the ship spit in half only after it was completely submerged. In the character of young Rose, we see a potentially brilliant girl doomed to lead a wasted life. A modern audience will undoubtably realize the symbolism in the corset-lacing scene, in which we learn that Rose's mother is trying to marry her daughter off to a wealthy, shallow brute in order to ward off impending poverty. Rose is told that her options in life are as narrow as her stays will soon leave her waistline.I felt glad to see our plucky, self-reliant young heroine break free at the end, and thought of how 60 years ago, a certain real-life debutante named Brenda Frazier,who was then as popular (Or as overrated?) as Leonardo DiCapprio is now was forced to deal with similar circumstances by the domineering members of her own family. She later denounced the shallowness of that lifestyle as well. The news media have revealed that Director James Cameron shares Cal Hockley's barbaric attitude toward women, and could probably meet a similar fate if he doesn't reform. Di Capprio's Jack Dawson was boyish and charming as the love of Rose's life that she never talked about until the end. While I deplored the end in which the older Rose ditched the diamond necklace(Imagine how many poor and homeless like those she knew in steerage could have been fed by that thing), I understood it was done to symbolize her relief at finally unburdening herself after a lifetime of secrecy. I think she and Jack went too far in the back seat of that stored-away car, and in the nude sketch done prior to that. But any amature psyciatrist could see that Rose is rebelling against the strictness imposed on her, and against a mother who doesn't appreciate her for the potentially brilliant human being she is. If Ruth DeWitt Buckater ended up as a seamstress, we feel it served her right, although her reaction to the shrieking victims in the water after Titanic was submerged suggests that she only made it to the nearest insane asylym afterwards.But intellectually we understand that she was a product of her time and class. Sure the poor are stereotyped just as the rich are. But we feel more empathy for their plight because they made up the majority of the ill-fated, which of course included Jack, whose gift to Rose is a way out from a narrow life, and a sense of direction. And as a woman who eventually leads a full life depite the disaster that befell her at age seventeen, I appeciate the way she taught the young, treasure-seeking whippersnappers to have a little more respect for those who died on board the ship they were trying to salvage instead of worrying about a diamond that meant nothing to her,its recipient. The debate of whether "Titanic" deserves to be on par with "Ben Hur" as far the the number of Oscars it won is concerned could go on ad nauseum. But its always an intruiging film to watch.

Summary: Good, but once is enough
Review: Greatest of all special effects, lightweight script(you'd think with all the money being spent, Cameron could have afforded to hire people who write for a living). Recently watched the Clifton Webb/Barbara Stanwyck version, funny what a difference a good screenplay makes.

Summary: Chilling and Thrilling.
Review: I genuinely believe that those who profess to hate this film do so either as a pose, or because they went into it with a closed mind and didn't give the film a chance to grab their attention.I am a cynical 32 year old, whose idea of a masterpiece is something like the usual Suspects or Goodfellas, but this film left me feeling emotionally drained in a way no other film has ever done. The reason for this was the utter realism of the last 40 minutes. The sinking was so completely real and convincing that i actually felt cold watching it. The sense that these people were living in safe, comfortable place ripped away - the shot that pulled back from the brightly lit ship to show it as a tiny toy in a vast empty expanse was stunning. The diCaprio/Winslet romance was corny - but true love IS corny, and it was essential to the climax that their be people on this ship we knew and cared about. Cameron is an underrated director - the Terminator movies are dismissed only by those who haven't watched them, and Aliens was an absolute masterpiece of tension and action that didn't stint at all on character development and human interest. This IS a big Hollywood movie though - in the noble trasition of Gone With the Wind and Doctor Zhivago, and that alone is enough to damn it in the eyes of those curmudgeons who don't believe any film that gets general release can be any good. To those people who think the Movies (ewith a big 'M') are America's great gift to the world, this is as good as it gets. 3 utterly enthralling hours, as long as you let it absorb you and don't watch as a critic, but as a moviegoer.

Summary: An Overblown Failure
Review: As the top-grossing film ever, "Titanic" gets a large amount of respect that it probably doesn't deserve. This is surely one of the most vapid films to ever gross over $100 million. The relationship between the two leads is unbelievable at best. After knowing each other for what, a few hours?, we see Kate Winslet disrobing for DiCaprio. After a few more hours, they're stealing away to have hot, steamy sex. This is one of the most overblown productions in recent memory, and the dialogue is bland throughout. The performances are weak, and Cameron's direction is very overrated. I figured that this film, considering its title, would be an accurate historical account of the sinking of the famous ship. Instead of accomplishing this, the film takes a narrow and very shallow look at two people on the ship, as if the rest of the people who lost their lives on the Titanic didn't matter for anything. After watching this film, the one message that rings true is that the only people who matter in the world are the beautiful ones, like Winslet and DiCaprio (yeah, right). It makes me very sad that this film won Best Picture in a year when "L.A. Confidential," "The Sweet Hereafter," and "Donnie Brasco" were all released. Don't submit yourself to this torture. The 1953 film with Clifton Webb is much better; the 1958 film "A Night to Remember" is equally effective. Style over substance in "Titanic," but as everyone knows, only the beautiful survive.

Summary: A Timeless Love Story In Tragedy.
Review: I am in love with this movie. It makes me cry each time I watch it. I have seen it now at least 15 times, and of course, I have a copy. I liked it very very much. I think it was great how Rose found Jack, and how they knew they finally found their true love. All of my life, I have wanted to find the love of my life, and there is something about Rose and Jack, that really touches my heart. I think Leo and Kate did a great job. I am very saddened by the sinking of Titanic, and I can not even imagine what the people went thru that dreaded night. I think that it was a very well done film and I am very impressed.

Summary: GARBAGE
Review: This movie wasn't anything but a long, boring, love story aimed toward teenage girls who lack common sense. The only reason this movie made money was because teenage girls wanted to see Leo. And why did Cameron make it look so sad when Jack died? Hundereds of people died on the Titanic, but this movie does nothing to mourn them. Why do they show Leo and Kate doing each other in a car inside the cargo area of the ship? How the hell did they get into the cargo area? My rating is zero stars, not one star.

Review: If you dig past the glitz and hype, this film has a lot of real nitty gritty to it. There is truly a lot to like. James Cameron has done it again.

Summary: Total utter recycled tripe
Review: It's sad how standards for excellence have sunk so low as to elevate "Titanic" as the best movie ever. I hope and pray that most of the people saying this are immature teenage girls who have yet to know what a good movie really is (i.e. It *can* have all "ugly" people in it). This movie is boring, drawn-out, re-cycled from 1000 other movies, crap. The only thing of interest was the Linux-driven special effects which were pretty amazing. Other than that, Leonardo and Kate need to go to acting school, or better yet, get a job at McDonald's or something...poor unbelievable acting from them. YES, they're great looking, but that does not make a good movie. James Cameron should stick to Terminator sequels, at least those movies were imaginative.

Summary: Great entertainment and worth seeing.
Review: Simply great entertainment and worth having (particularly for use as part of a romantic evenings entertainment). Special effects in a couple of places could have been better, but this was adequately compensated for in other ways. If you want a lot of accuracy ... go get a documentary, if you want a lot of enjoyment, get Titanic. Hopefully you have a big TV and good sound to fully enjoy it.

Review: How can anyone say that this is the best movie ever made? A great movie is one that has a great story, good actors and meaning. Titanic is nothing more than a romantic splurge aimed at thirteen year old girls. The only reason it deserves one star is that DiCaprio went down with the ship, eliminating any possiblity of a sequal...
