Summary: This reshoot is not as good as the first one...
Review: If any of you 5-star people have actually seen A Night To Remember, I'm stunned. Many parts of Titanic are scene-for-scene, line-for-line reshoots, right down to facial expressions and body movements. It so closely parallels A Night To Remember that I can't understand why a lawsuit wasn't filed. I assume that copyright protections have expired on the first film.

And for those of you impressed with the realism of Titanic, I have a question: How do you know? You obviously weren't there, so have any of you read non-fiction books on the ship, outlining her design and architecture? I'll bet not. I say that because if you had, you would know that conditions on the Titanic would have been horrible compared to any modern cruise ship. The movie was complete fiction, not a documentary. Examples: There were very few electric lights on board the ship. Almost all lights, other than navigation beacons and lights in critical working areas, were oil lamps which were refilled daily by stewards. There was no running water or septic systems in any of the cabins. A five gallon tank above the bathroom sink was filled with water every day, and gravity did the work when you turned on the faucet. There were no showers. The toilet held a pan which was placed out for a steward to collect once per day. The ship would be very small by today's standards. Most cruise ships now under construction are 2-3 TIMES larger than Titanic. Third-class passengers were prohibited from even being on the same decks as other passengers, due to quarantine regulations. If little Leo had dinner with the rich folks, everyone on the ship would be required to spend a few weeks at Ellis Island when they arrived in America.

Also, the overwhelming majority of the ship was a floating ghetto, with third-class passengers packed into staterooms with four to six other passengers, sharing common toilets with other staterooms. Was it luxurious? Absolutely, by 1912 standards. Remember, hardly anyone had electricity, telephones, running water or radios on land, so doing without them at sea was not asking much.

Review: I love this movie.Not only is it surprisingly accurate, but I found the interaction between characters to be very moving.Cameron spared no expense on the making of this movie and I believe it shows.Also, the beginning of the movie really brings you back to the actual time of the Titanic.I'm not a big "Leo fan", though I am a teenager,but I have to say that the acting is great.However, the storyline is the movie's best asset.The movie is an excellent tribute to the people who were on the actual ship.It is a glimpse through the eyes of a seventeen year old girl of what happened on April 14, 1912 to so many people.I can't say enough about this movie.

Summary: Not enough extra features
Review: I loved this movie, but I was disappointed by the DVD. After having to wait so long before Titanic was even released on DVD, I would have liked to have seen a lot more extra features. There really are none to speak of, outside of closed captions and spanish and french audio. Additionally, I was amazed that a movie that runs 3 hours and 20 minutes would be broken down into only 30 scenes in the scene selection menu. Nevertheless, I am excited to have this movie in digital format!

Summary: Titanic on DVD is spectacular!
Review: I just watched my new Titanic DVD and was delighted. Most of us love the film and I am extremely pleased with the transfer to DVD. I have a 35" TV and an older Yamaha receiver with Dolby Pro-Logic. I set the listening mode to 70mm and was very impressed with how good it sounded. I would guess the Dolby Digital soundtrack is awesome. The video transfer is gorgeous. I have waited a long time for this film to come out on DVD and I'm very happy to have it.

Review: I got the movie early in the week and have watched it 3 times already. We all know the movie, I won't get into that. The transfer is gorgeous. The video is flawless with a transparent layer change. Buy it, period..buy 2.

Summary: Pleasant Surprise
Review: I would have given it three-and-a-half, but four will be my call. Leo was a bit shrill, Winslett charming.(And thankfully, a touch on the fuller side. Getting tired of all those anorexic actresses.) Billy Zane was a little overdone as the villian, sometimes seeming to lean toward the melodramatic in his acting, but still, all and all, a solid shift of work from him. Hopefully, he will only get better. The supporting cast supported efficiently, reminding the viewer of similar movies and acting styles from the thirties. The big star, though, were the special effects, done in spellbinding fashion, especially on DVD with a digital home theater to bring out the complementary sound. I had not watched it until the DVD was released for rent, and I'm glad I did. Great picture and sound, even the psuedo-Enya soundtrack. Worth a watch, even if I don't think it is "Best Picture" material. (Can't really criticize on that score, as I didn't see the other nominated films.)

Summary: Excellent Movie, Poor Transition to DVD
Review: Titanic was and always will be a fantastic movie. I suppose I like a lot of other people were waiting for the transition of this movie to DVD , waiting to relive it all over again. I have to say though that this doesnt live up to expectations. The sound quality is excellent on DVD, shame about the rest. You would think that with such a huge blockbuster a bit of effort could of gone in to making the DVD version spectacular. I would say to people dont bother unless you have a large screen TV otherwise you will be starining your eyes to find the picture on the screen....

Summary: Excitement beyond comparision
Review: I think a lot of folks have lost site that this is a story revolving around a historical event. As a male (29 years old), I enjoy watching Leo in action with Kate Winslet. Not only that, but the extreme work that went into the production of this movie was a paramount feat! From the actual construction of the Titanic, computer graphics, authenic duplication of the clothing, cars, luggage, everything is how it used to be. The director, James Cameron, takes you on a roller coaster ride that gives you a different perspective of what happened to the poor souls of the doomed Titanic.

Summary: Two stars for people that really were on the titanic.
Review: For those that actually died (or existed, may I add), I give two stars. For Leo and Kate, they get nothing. I would love to have back the 3+ hours that I spent watching this "movie." The acting really is bad, the dialogue tasteless and flat, and the movie was so over-hyped not because of what really happened that night, but because of every ten-year-old's favorite, Leonardo Dicaprio.

I have never been a fan of Leo; just the complete opposite. But, I am not judging this movie by just that. This movie was a complete bore, and I really don't think that it shows any respect whatsoever to those who actually died on the Titanic. Creating two fictional characters, putting them in a factual situation, and focusing everything around them is just disrespectfull. By doing this, the creators pull attention away from the actual tragedy, and relay a fictional love story that simply uses an actual event as a background. The sinking of the Titanic does not, and never will in my mind revolve around the idea of a fictional character dying. The sinking of the Titanic deals with a very large amount of innocent people, which this movie fails to showcase. Unless, of course, you count the very end, where the viewer is subjected to several shots of dead people floating in the frozen water.

The movie derives attention from the fact that several lives were lost. One may not realize it, but there was possibly more than one 'love story' occuring during the sinking of the Titanic.

The only part of the movie that really is moving is the end. This is the one and only section where the creators recognize the several people that lost their lives in the sinking of the Titanic. This I found greatly moving, but I would rather not wait 3 hours for the ending.

This movie is a complete bore, and the ultimate low in time wasting. If you want to spend 3 hours watching a decent movie, rent Ingmar Bergman's Fanny and Alexander. There's a love story for you. But about Titanic, I have an undescribable sorrow for the massive amounts of lives that were lost. But as for the movie, all of the existing prints belong on the real Titanic.
