Summary: A Great Classic
Review: A unique experience it is seeing this film, so full of passions, warmth, tenderness and raw emotions. In just over seven months Cameron has managed to create a cinematic jewel that is as strong and enduring as Gone With the Wind, only more tragic and heartwrenching.Kate Winslet is luminous as Rose, the young heroine, and Leonardo DiCaprio is outstanding as Jack, her romantic love who perishes in his efforts to save the life of the woman he loved. Titanic is recommended everyone with a heart and a soft spot for romance and high drama, which are the main characteristics of this, the most voluptuous and extravagant of the great classics. Summary: Has some good moments.
Review: As far as I remember, after I had seen this in the theater, I wasn't all that crazy about it. Titanic is a good movie, but not a classic in my opinion. The first half is better-than-good, the second half is quite average. From the moment that the ship hits the iceberg, that's when Titanic starts to drag. The sinking segment of the movie should've been shortened really; it just drags on for too long. The movie is still interesting in places and the acting is average. There's no doubt that the cinematography and effects are very good also. It's surprising that the DVD doesn't have a director's commentary or even a behind-the-scenes featurette--just a trailer. That's quite odd for a movie of this popularity. The sound's great though. This isn't the greatest movie, but it's not bad either.

Summary: Suprisingly good.
Review: I hate to admit it, but I liked this movie. I still don't think it deserved the Oscar for Best Picture (I still think L.A. CONFIDENTIAL was far better), but I will go so far as to say it is an Oscar worthy picture. Despite the fact that the plot is cheesy and very predictable, James Cameron finds someway to put it all together and make it look good, and very entertaining. If I may quote my English Professor, TITANIC is the best movie made from the worst script ever written. My sentiments exactly. Best Picture? No...not even close. A good piece of entertainment? Sure.

Review: Oh well, no one is going to read this review anyway (like it really stands out above all these 869 others!), but I thought for such a huge budget they could have made a much better film.

Summary: A great big waste
Review: All that struck me about this film, even after viewing it twice (once in a review setting, once with my mom), is that it was such a waste. Good - perhaps even great - actors like Kate Winslet and Kathy Bates are given the most irritatingly shallow of characters to play off of, reciting dialog like 'I'd rather be his whore than your wife', failing in their valiant attempt to make it sound like anything that anyone ever would say in reality. Marry that with Billy Zane's shameful Snidely Whiplash impression and Leo DiCaprio's odd Shatner-ish interpretations of his lines, and it's a wonder anyone sat through the full 8 hours (or so) of this film. The story itself is a pitiful example of stereotyping: the drunken poor, the starving artist who's 'keepin' it real, man', the class slumming rich girl. And the rest of the rich only needed to start smoking hundred dollar bills for fun to become more broad-stroked - Cameron's obvious hatred of the rich is odd, considering his wealth. The most unfortunate thing about this film, however, is its FX - THEY AREN'T THAT GOOD. The CGI is almost atrociously flat and obvious. They look like paintings, not like reality, which is a losing battle in a film that's selling point was the FX. The mechanical FX - the scale models, the costumes - were so worthwhile that one has to wonder why Cameron bothered at all with the CGI. The computer FX take up the majority of the screen time, and not a one of them are good FX. It's a tragic story, alright - the story of a director who wastes the income of a small nation on rubbish like this.

Summary: Billion dollar worth every cent...
Review: Titanic is a movie that is appealing to all ages. A movie which most of us an relate to if we were put in that position. A romance being un-folded before us using the trajic back drop of that fateful day. But most of all, this is ONLY a MOVIE. This was not set to portray the real events, just try to come close to it as possible while telling a compelling love story in the process. The people out there who are bashing this film do not really see past their own short comings and should realize that a film that has generated so much attention, awards, praise,...etc. is a film to respect. A tip of the hat to you Mr. Cameron. A job well done.

Summary: Excellant movie but it has it flaws.
Review: Having come from England I share the sentament that the British weren't supressing the Irish and gun wielding snobs bereft of feeling to the passengers as they loaded the boats. Mr Lightoller (Johnny Phillips) and Mr Wilde (Mark Lindsay Chapman.) despite excellant acting come over as complete fascists. "Step back sir, step through madam." and the often yelled. "Women and Children only!" What the film fails to portray is that the officers were trying to save the lives of the Women and children and that locking the third classes below decks was not universly done. Also the Firemen could escape from the flooding boiler room which in the film they are trapped in because there was an escape stair well to E deck, and Mr Murdoch (Ewan Stewart.) had to close the doors to slow down the flooding. I loved the romance part of the story (except DiCaprio who irritates me.), the effects and the musical score. I generally love this film but don't think it is the best ever made. (See The Empire Strikes back.) The other question I have is this: Can they prove Mr Murdoch shot himself? I have looked high and low through loads of books and texts and all evedence is circumstantial and Lightoller saw him before he died and said he was far from suicide. In fact as far as I can assertain Mr Wilde was the man who took his own life, if anyone did at all. All in all a good film and 75% historically accurate which is why I was a little confused by the seen of tension before Titanic hit the Ice burg. We all know it will hit it and sink, but it was an excellant scene. So "Ladies and Gentlemen your attention please." I suggest watch it and form your own opinion.

Summary: Masterpiece-But too long a wait for such a disappointing DVD
Review: Don't get me wrong, behind all the media crap, this is a masterpiece of a movie. We waited soo long for it to be on DVD, so we thought it must be one awsome DVD with lots of stuff like outtakes, Titanic information, Behind the scenes featurettes. Then the DVD finally came out, and besides the tiny video when you pop the dvd in, all it does is play previews, select languages, cene skip, and play the movie. Very dissapointing for such a long awaited masterpiece. I should have just been satisfied with my video of it. Two thumbs way way up for the movie, but two thumbs Way way down for the DVD. Oh well, maybe The Matrix and The Sixth Sense will be awsome!

Summary: the most heart-rendering, ultimate movie i have ever enjoyed
Review: "Titanic" is the ultimate movie. Some people say it is booring; however, if you watch, REALLY, watch you will see it is about more than just Leonardo DiCaprio and a ship that sinks. James Cameron really pulls you in; you become involved with and want to know everything about the "Titanic". I have seen this movie more than 10 times and it gets me every time. From the score, to the storyline, to "Old Rose" narrating, to the final pulse pounding "unsinkable" ship going down...no other movie compares.

Review: One of the most technically amazing efforts in cinema attached to the most horrible pulp screenplay ever. It was manipulative and drawn-out to tell me howto feel about it, instead of allowing me to become involved and create emotional reactions on my own.
