Summary: Icy cold
Review: Impressions: Razzle Dazzle special effects, at least they look good by 1997 standards... Unfortunate foreshadowing: We know Rose can't drown, though we wish she would, because she is allegedly telling the story...Unneccessary scenes: Rose's fiance shooting up the boat, any scene with Leonardo in it, the steamy orgasm in the car, any scene with the old lady, on and on...Most satisfying moment: a frozen Di Caprio sinking beneath the waves...Redeeming social value: The nude sketching scene pushed my honey over the edge...so all was not lost. Otherwise this thing should have sunk like a rock.

Summary: Just a part of history told in full, but...
Review: I requested a copy of the most popular motion picture of all time after hearing endless claims about it's great and all that. Personally, I thought it was well worth its 11 Oscars, but I gave it four stars for several reasons: the casting of the once-popular Leonardo DiCaprio, the nasty dialogue (made up for top-notch direction by James Cameron and strong special effects), and the most overrated song of the century, Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On," which sold zillions of copies globally, as well as the soundtrack and yes the film too. Otherwise, it's a visually splendid retelling of the death of that ship on April 12 (or 15?), 1912.

Summary: A flawed but breathtaking movie
Review: When I read some of the customer's reviews of "Titanic", I realize that it is often treated inappropriately harshly. Many dislike the romantic plot and say that the screenplay is just a series of cliches.

People who say that are correct but they miss the point of "Titanic". James Cameron intended to bring back the great epic cinema. He wanted to make a film of such scope, that it would make other filmmakers say: "This cannot be done anymore." In many ways James Cameron succeeded brilliantly. "Titanic" is a film of truly titanic proportions with striking images worthy of David Lean. Especially the second half delivers one memorable scene after another. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet do a good job and all the technical aspects of the film are unbelievably well realized. If Cameron had managed to write an at least slightly more subtle screenplay without the unnecessary demonization of the Billy Zane character, the film's impact would be definitive.

The reason for the hatred of many viewers is maybe its unparalleled commercial success. Of course it is not the best film ever and one can argue wether it desreved 11 Academy Awards but ultimately none of these things should be taken into account when you evaluate a film. James Cameron delievered a sweeping epic that manages to captivate for more than three hours and I think that this is a tremendous achievement.

Summary: TITANIC WILL SAIL RIGHT INTO YOUR SOUL!
Review: Although the doomed R.M.S. Titanic sunk, a compelling romance and undeniable chemistry between the two main stars of this film manages to keep Titanic, THE MOVIE, afloat! There are so many words to describe this movie: awe-inspiring, powerful, haunting, suspenseful, and riveting, just to name a few! This movie is defenitely one that "stays with you." It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it forced me think about all the people's lives that were affected by this disaster, as I'd never thought about it before! Titanic makes history come to life, right before our eyes! I would have a hard time believing ANYONE could view this movie and remain unmoved by the ultimate race against time that's unfolding up on the screen! Titanic is a movie of titanic proportions; definitely a masterpiece and deserving of the title: Most Popular Film, Ever! No movie collection would be complete without it!

Summary: I Can't Stand this Movie!
Review: I definitely don't like this movie. It is way too long for a little boat ride and the only reason why this movie did any good at the box office is because it is a "chick flick." It was made for the sole purpose of millions of teenage girls flocking to the theatre and drool at Leonardo Dicaprio. This movie is worth it.The only cool part in the movie is when Jack,(Dicaprio) freezes to death.

Summary: Get over it, people!
Review: Everyone loved this movie when it first came out, but then came the gargantuan profits and the boatload (pardon the pun) of Oscars. The theme song was played to death and the movie was shoved in our faces repeatedly, so we got sick of it. A lot of people apparently got really, really bitter, so they started raging against it, criticizing it for minute historical inaccuracies and the cheesy love story. And these were the people who in the beginning loved it, cried over it, and went to see a second and third time. Am I missing something?

Okay, the movie is flawed (the bad script, Dicaprio, etc.), and those flaws really stick out the third or fourth time around, but since when has a movie not had some flaw? The acting is above average for the most part, the special effects are great, and the mood is perfectly set. This movie, especially in the last hour, is all about the mood. The tension, the anger, the fear, and the sad acceptence of fate. You really feel for these people, even after having seen this movie four times or more. Come on, people, get over it and admit that! Is it really that hard? Next time out, try, as gut-wrenching as it may be, not to concentrate on the flaws and focus instead on the good parts, if you possibly can. Then, possibly, you'll see why some of us still love it and why so many millions of people loved it in the beginning. And when it's over, you just might feel like you've only been watching for a couple of minutes and not moan about how it was so long and boring and tedious, among other things. Try it.

Summary: Bad Bad movie!

Summary: A Sinking Ship
Review: All this movie is about a ship that sinks, and the love story in it. There is a third class passenger (Di Caprio) who falls in love with a first class passenger (Winslet) who really doesn't have any money at all. The mother doesn't approve of this relationship because she's higher than him, and is engaged to someone she doesn't love. In the end sinks, and he dies.

Summary: If nothing else, get it for the music...
Review: This movie was really good the first time I saw it, in the theatre. It was even good the second, third, fourth, and fifth times at home. And when I just recently watched it again, I stayed awake. If you've never seen it before, then you are in for a treat. Most of the world is sick of Titanic by now... Including me, for the most part- at least I'm not one of the people that goes around criticizing it a whole lot for something that isn't it's fault: People making such a big deal about it. That's why everyone is so sick of it now. But one thing that I'm not sick of, not after hearing it a hundred-plus times, is the music. James Horner is just fantastic. Without the music, this movie would not be worth seeing. With the music, it is just amazing. Of course, you could just save some money and time and get the soundtrack. But it is so amazing- the music is so wonderful. So, I'll say it again, if nothing else, get it for the music.

Summary: 30 Minutes Too Long
Review: The number one thing that caused me to dislike Titanic was its length. This movie is about 30 minutes too long. Length is not in itself a negative, but it's what is put into to the extra time that can make or break a movie.

The first half of the movie is spent between setting up the story in the present day, presenting the contrasts between Jack and Cal, and foreshadowing to the date with the iceberg. This is where the 30 minutes could have been cut. After about the third argument that Cal and Rose had regarding Jack I found myself saying enough already, I get it.

The special effects and the sinking of the ship were very well done. Special effects alone cannot make a great movie, as evidenced by Twister and Star Wars: Episode I. They must fit into an overall story that is exciting and compelling.

I thought the acting was better than average. The stand out performance was given by Billy Zane as Cal. He played one of the better cowardly villains I have seen in awhile. Even Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet give good performaces in the roles of Jack and Rose. It is the supporting cast that really lags in this film. With a movie of this length there is no excuse for having such one-dimensional supporting characters.

Overall I wouldn't say to avoid this movie at all costs. There is something in it for everyone, which may have been the root of the problem. Titanic tries to please everybody, but in the end leaves most with the feeling that this movie could have been a lot better if it had been given one personality instead of the many that it has.
