Review: The first half is standard chick-flick tripe. The second half is alright with the boat sinking, but would have been better if you didnt already know it was going to happen!!!(a fictional story, and not the story of the Titanic would have made it much better) The 2nd star is for the sinking and DiCrapio dying at the end.

Review: The thing that makes this movie so great, besides the dashingly handsome leading man and the thrilling romance story, is that it is real. maybe not the exact romance story, but one probably close to it. The thing that gets me to watch it again and again, is the fact that this is a real ship that sank and killed so many lives. It is a movie that makes you think. you think well, if only they had had more lifeboats, or if only those people didn't wait so long to come back and help. if only the rich stuck up first class people had used their heads, instead of being convinced nothing bad could ever happen to them just because they had lots of money. it is a thrilling story and they kept it even more interesting in the way that they tied the whole old lady remembering it thing into it. because i'm sure somewhere there was a person who did remember the things that happened to them and never told anyone the whole story. the movie is the absolute best. it is funny, sad, romantic, scary, and moving. it shows how one minute you could be the happiest in the world, fearing nothing and then BAM! you're fearing for everything. and us as the veiwer, are right there along with the characters - laughing, crying, and ultimatley more aware of things when the movie is over.

Summary: Titanic- Good and Bad
Review: I suppose every person who has ever seen this movie has their own opinion, and their own view of what is good and what is bad about the film,which I suppose that it was these reviews are all about. I enjoyed it mostly from the standpoint of the special effects such as the bridge and engine room scenes (before, during and after the collision with the iceberg.) Some people don't like the music, but I do: in particular the "Southampton" and "Take her to sea, Mr. Murdoch" sequences . To really appreciate this film, I think you need to have a copy of "A Night To Remember" and "Titanic" (1953). I first saw the 1953 version while in the Navy during the Korean Conflict......the film was alright, but not all that outstanding....its only redeeming factor being that am a fan of Clifton Webb. I would rate the three films in the order listed below. Another interesting sidelight to appreciation of the films is the CD-ROM Game "Titanic-Adventure Out Of Time". I finally muddled through the game and got off safely, having everything with me on th lifeboat to prevent the Russian Revolution, World War I and World War II, et cetera, et cetera and so forth. However, I find the "Tour" option the most interesting. You can watch the
film(s) and then take your own personal cruise on RMS Titanic at your leisure.(You won't need to worry about the iceberg on the "Tour".)

Summary: "Thoroughly sinkable."
Review: Famous action movie director James Cameron ("The Terminator") tackles historical drama, but skips the history in favor of a clumsliy-drawn, cliched romance. His bloated account of the famous ocean liner is nothing short of a technical marvel, with meticulouly recreated sets and costumes, and superb camera work and special effects, all glossily textured. He's assembled a credible cast and crew, and his recreation of the ship's sinking is spectacular, as he puts his hand as a gifted action director into serious work. But the marveling stops there. His flimsy script is full of nonsensical distractions, poor dialog, and lame, cartoonish characters. He fills the movie with love scenes and melodrama, most of it just infantile rubbish. Yet unlike so many viewers, I wasn't swept away by the romance, I was bored with it. How could you really enjoy something you've seen a thousand times already, and done a thousand times better. There was tremendous potential for Cameron's project, but he shot it to oblivion when he decided to handle the pencil-and-paper. My advise to Cameron, stick to window-dressing, and let someone else, someone better, handle the writing. The whole film is an insult to the ship's crew and passengers, as it does anything but do them justice. All in all, "Titanic" is thoroughly sinkable.

Summary: Impressive but flawed
Review: This is a film that can be divided up into 2 main sections: the sunny romantic half and the watery disaster half. All my friends advised me to fastforward the first hour and enjoy the action at the end. Actually I rather enjoyed the love intrigue section (Kate Winslet is wonderful), and found myself yawning towards the end. Visually this is a fantastic film. No complaints here. At times Titanic dips close to TV movie territory with wooden acting, and high cheese content, and will therefore disappoint a lot of people who have high expectations. Another 'Gone With the Wind' this is not. I was surprised because James Cameron usually delivers the goods when it comes to a thrilling cinema experience. Still, a lot of people , mostly teenage girls, really liked it so you'll have to make your own mind up. Girls should bring kleenex and boys coffee.

Summary: The best movie ever!
Review: Titanic is my all-time favorite movie. It's the awesome love-story of a rich-girl (Rose) who hates her life and a poor artist (Jack) who has learned to love having nothing. In their few days together Jack teaches Rose how to be herself and try to have fun. Then, the ship hits the iceberg and they face losing each other, but they hang on until the bitter end...and then don't even let go in death. Sure, this may be a sappy romance, but I like this sappy romance!

Summary: The real dissaster here is the script and the acting
Review: Director/writer Cameron manages to take one of the most horrific events in our history and turn it into an insipid "love" story that has more holes than swiss cheese.
First of all, there was so much actual intrigue on this ship that there was no need to create some totally bogus romance in the first place, he should have just concentrated on what actually happened.
Secondly, the story has no basis in reality as the 2 lovers shack up after only a few days. This is in 1912 and I'm sorry but that sort of thing just did not happen.
Third, the lovers spend something like 45 minutes battling the rising water inside the ship, but act as if they've been in the hot tub. In reality, the ice cold water would have nearly killed them at this point, but this utterly ridiculous story ignores that minor little detail.
Fourth, the story also ignores major details about other ships in the area ignoring the Titanic calls for help.
The special effects were great, and the one scene of the lovers parting in the ocean after Leonardo has (thankfully) frozen to death was very genuine indeed. The sad part is that you had to sit thru 2 and one half hours of some of the worst movie making I've ever seen just to get to those 45 seconds of reality.
To some it up, what happend on the Titanic was a dissaster, but it pales when compared to this ridiculous movie that goes out of the way to inject a 100% fictional and silly story into a tragic real event.
The special effects are good, but they would have been much better if they had been based in reality.
I can't for one moment imagine why the academy felt compeled to honor this egomania-show when so many other movies (such as Contact with Jodie Foster) were FAR superior in every way.
If you're looking for a GOOD movie about the Titanic, order the version starring Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck.
