Summary: Impressive,! Wear a sweater before watching!!
Review: Oh this story was very sweet,sad and..... ccccooooolllllddd!! The opening music was also of the saddest yet sweetest sound I'd ever heard. The scenes where people were outside while the ship was sinking, and especially once Rose and Jack are in the water is SO REAL!!! I was literally chattering my teeth and curling up into a warm ball while watching it!!!!Watching them react to being cold and their faces and lips turning blue, made me FEEL THAT COLD WATER and it wasn't hard to imagine what it must've felt like to freeze to death. The ship-sinking scenes were very dramatic and gripping, I felt as if I was on the ship as well!! The building flirtations and love scene with Jack&Rose were exciting, it made me feel like a love-sick schoolgirl again.:) The one scene I objected to, was showing a dead mother and baby in the water. That scene really did not need to be shown at all. It upset me badly. I have this in my home video collection, as it's a spectacular story and visually-impressive film. Watch it on a HOT Summer's day and it'll cool you down, I bet;)

Summary: Titanic, the unsinkable ship
Review: At first I loved the movie. But then I did some research and thought, What about the thrid-class or second-class passengers? They were on Titanic too. The majority of third-class passengers died and the movie could've brought some attention to that. But I think Titanic deserved the 11 awards, the costumes were great, effects were mainly o.k. If you're not into romances this movie probably isn't for you.

Summary: Extremely Overrated Spectacle
Review: The most successful movie of all time is actually not that great. Which is not to say its bad. The idea is strong, but the execution of that story is where the problems arise, making a great story into only an average film. James Cameron's script opens well, but soon provides only cardboard characters and extremely melodramatic dialouge. Add to this mesh: The film runs over 3 hours. Whereas some films were able to keep the audience held for this amount of time (Gone With the Wind, Schindler's List, Braveheart), I found that the length of Titanic was oppressive, especially considering what we were building up to. The actual sinking sequence -- 45 minutes of the movie, I believe -- is incredible, capturing the emotion and commotion of the fateful voyage. If I were only reviewing that part of the movie, this film would recieve a "5" star rating. But I have to throw in the script. The script is overly long, convoluted, filled with horribly 2-dimensional characters and dialouge more cheesy than Wisconsin. All the upper-class are snotty, vicious, and ignorant. All the lower class are fun-loving, drink warm beer, and dance to celtic music. Fortunate for Cameron, most of the actors are competent. Kathy Bates steals the few scenes she is in as Molly Brown, and Billy Zane shines with an inner-turmoil, bringing class to the screen as the villain, although the role as it was written is extremely cliche. Of course, sooner or later I have to come to the star-crossed lovers. I actually liked Leonardo Dicaprio as Jack. Although not a great actor by any stretch of the imagination, Leo's on-screen charisma in this film is quite astonishing. He was quite apt at carrying the film until the sinking of the ship. Unfortunately, Kate Winslet as Rose was not as good. Even though the weakness of her role comes more from the actual dialouge she had to say, her acting was over the top. If you haven't guessed by now, the main problem with Titanic was a script that was riddled with cliches, and about an hour too long. Believe me, they could have cut the film down. So, this film is not bad, but it is not great either, and I don't know why it won so many awards. If you want to see the Best Picture of 1997, see L.A. Confidential. On a side note, I am a devout James Cameron fan. Contrary to the entire population of teenage girls in the world, Titanic is NOT his best work. See either of the Terminator films, or the Abyss, or Aliens (which is perhaps the greatest sci-fi/horror film ever made.) But if you are going to see Titanic, See it on Widescreen! The strength of the film is in its visuals. The film loses much of its visual splendor on the small screen. So get the whole picture!
