Summary: Overated To The Max
Review: Titanic was sheer and utter disappointment. It was toooooo long and the only thing that I liked about it was that it ended. The boat and Cameron's special effects were really good and all, but the storyline did not affect me in any way. Cameron should have casted better actors. First of all, Winslet looked ten years older than Di Caprio. And second, their emotions were not convincing enough. Cameron should just stick to plain action movies. He directed Terminator 2 and True Lies and these movies are a lot better than Titanic. Sorry Cameron, but you are no "King of the World" in my book. The oscar for best movie deserves to go to some other movie like "Wag the Dog." This whole production was not "oscar worthy" and its three hours of a waste of time.

Summary: Great, except for Leo...
Review: I am a big fan of Titanic...not just the movie but the ship also. After this movie, there are two types of fans..fans b/c of the history (me), and fans b/c of the movie and leo. This should not be the case, but it is. Anyway, I think Leo is a horrible actor (oh, get over it, y'all!). He's cute enough, but he sure as hell cannot act. Other than that, the movie was great. I have seen it five times. Happy viewing.

Review: This was definitely the movie to top all movies. Every dollar it made was earned. This was truly an epic. Most of the critical comments I have read or heard are simply due to the fact that anyone, anything, etc that accomplishes greatness brings out those who would tear them or it down.

Review: Boats and Romance DONT MIX

Summary: A Modern Movie like those in the 40's
Review: I have seen Titanic twice in theatres and countless times at home. I guess I am a hopeless romantic, but I thought it was so much better than the more "realistic" dramas of today that leave the viewer with a sick feeling at the end. I am too young to have seen the movies of the 30's and 40's anywhere but on tv, but I admire the "escapist" tone of those old love stories and the "clean" violence of the action films. I think we could use a few more movies like Titanic and a few less of the blood and gore.

Review: I had the fortune of seeing Titanic in its opening weeks, before it was a pop culture phenomonen. I could sit back and take in the movie on its own merit and not burden the film with the overwhelming task of living up to being the top-grossing film of all time and the movie that tied Ben Hur on oscar night. Titanic on its own merit is a wonderful 3 and a half hours. The romantic sublot says volumes on living in the precious present, and by the time it has slowly built to the climatic signature shot of Leo and Kate clinging to the rear of the ship as it lowers into the Atlantic, my breath was taken away. I am not especially the romantic type, but I can get into a movie like this every once and a while, and I have to say that Titanic is better than most. Who would have thought that a former truck driver could be the visionary behind such a romantic masterpiece.

The DVD of this film is an utter dissappointment. As Paramount's biggest video release of recent memory, Titanic deserves at least the effort that Warner Bros. gave thier best picture nominee of 1997, LA Confidential. Offhand I can think of so many spectacular supplements to this film that could have been included on this disk, and as much money as Paramount has made off of Titanic one would think that they could have treated us to the best possible presentation of thier crown jewel film of the 90's. Perhaps the Criterion Collection will favor us with some of the wonderful special edition content that this film screams for. In case anyone is listening, may I suggest a few items for such a release. First of all, a 16 X 9 presentation would be appreciated to give us the clearest possible picture and to please those viewers that have invested in widescreen or high definition TV's. Frankly, I am suprisd that a DVD could be THX certified without such a transfer. Second, I saw a show on The History Channel that chronicled the historical acuracies of the film. I can attest that great pains were taken to ensure that the ship looked in the film as it really did, but I was most impressed with the keen resemblances that the actors had to the actual participants in the event. Perhaps an abbreviated version of this show could be included. Third, how about James Cameron's memorable acceptance speech featuring the famous exclaimation "I'm the king of the world!"

In conclusion I have to say that I cannot give the DVD release of this movie 5 stars because Paramount has refrained from giving the movie its due. I had hoped that James Cameron could use his freshly renewed clout to ensure that the DVD of Titanic would be something special as were the DVD releases of Terminator 2 and Aliens. A full year after the VHS release of Titanic, my wait has not been rewarded.

Review: You know, even the people who claim to hate this movie are writing about it. That alone says something about the movie. If they really hated it, why are they writing? I have seen better movies in my time, and I'm only 12 years old. And yes, in case you're wondering, I'm a girl. But I'm most certainly not one of those Leo-infatuated blockheads.

He's not as bad as some people say, though he could use a haircut, and a few more muscles. I admit that the reason that this movie is PG-13 rated seems a little inappropriate for a 1912 setting, but it's a love story, and how many people who are still alive were old enough in 1912 to remember what it was like then?

Please don't let the bad reviews phase you. It's good, not great, but it's still a movie everyone should see. I've seen Star Wars: Episode I, and it's a lot better than Titanic. But Titanic is still good.
