Rating: Summary: an asured winner!!!! Review: Dead Leaves is a great new captivating anime. It is an insane wild ride through abstract animation, vibrant color use and a killer soundtrack. Though you may raise an eyebrow the first few minutes of the film, the next few will have you wide-eyed and open-mouthed at the feats it has accomplished.
Unlike Blood: The Last Vampire and Kai Doh Maru, Manga has given us an entire storyline, not leaving out a twenty minute chunk of plot like the former titles.
In the end, Dead Leaves is definitely worth a purchase.
Rating: Summary: One word.....INSAINE Review: Dead Leaves is one of those rare series that'll make you think "what the hell?". The show as some brilliant animationa and some really awesome action sequences that don't involve any CGI at all. The series is pretty much simple to understand
PLOT
Pandy and Retro find them selves isolated and nude. They have no idea who they are or what has happend to them. So to make some stuff work out they......steal, kill and...yeah you get the point. Not a very smart way to find shelter if you ask me. They end up getting busted and are sent to a prison named "DEAD LEAVES" were they find some really messed up looking inmates. Soon they find out that the inmates are diformed clones of some type and get ready to bust out, with the inmates of course, and that is the beginning of there adventure of escaping Dead Leaves.
There is more to the story but I don't want to spoil it for you. The animation is insain and awesome. It's like Ren and Stimpy mixed with south park on Steriods. The best part of this film is once the characters start using there weapons. This film has great stylized action shooting. There was something about the two main characters that I loved that I couldn't quiet get my finger on. One thing is that when these two start killin' it's awesome and very stylized! The series may turn some people off. I really enjoyed it. It was very "different" from most series if you ask me.
The series is a bit short if you ask me, it should have bin atleast and hour and half but then again what els would they have added?
This series is pretty darn violent too. Lots and lots of blood and some gory moments but not that bad and lots of profanity(in subtitles of course) and is recommended to ages 17+. This show
The show is insain, it's cool and hip, it's something new and fresh and I simply loved it and that is why I'm giving this awesome anime a
4.5 out of 5.
It needs more stuff though and the Dvd didn't have enough juicy extras for me..

Rating: Summary: An hour long adrenalin rush. Review: Have you been desensitized to violence and seem unaffected by strange sexual acts. Then step right up. This was made just for you. Even the most jaded viewer will laugh and gasp at the content of this disk.
Retro and Pandy awaken with their memories erased. They apparently have been sent to a lunar prison. This is the story of how they attempt to escape with hordes of other inmates. Strap yourself in for a crazy ride.
Are you into typical anime with realistic renderings and computer enhanced graphics? You may want to look somewhere else. This has the look of a panel comic. All the outlines are thick and black and nothing looks even remotely realistic.
Do you hate crass language? Do you also abhor sexual innuendo? Well then you're going to hate this. The entire anime is filled with sexual language and situations.
Do you dislike intense violence? Please look elsewhere. The screen is almost entirely filled with blood through the whole show.
Rating: Summary: itz typically brilliant Review: i think this movie is one of the coolest anime movies i have ever seen. i understand the fact that it annoys some audience due its toilet/sexual humor and extensive violence on screen. but i found its illustration is very creative!! the designs are brilliant. although the story is kinda fragmented, im fine with it. there are many different types of anime. and dead leaves is yhe kind that provides good visual enjoyment and easy-understandable humor. however, you might also find some social reflection and satire from this movie. overall, i give it a 5, you might not have a same taste as mine, but i definitely recommend this movie to you. ^_^ watch it without kids around~
Rating: Summary: 'Fraid NOT boys and girls... Review: I was in a buying frenzy. The man said with that dirty "I sell anime can you trust me?" smile "IT'S like, if you like FLCL, then, like, THIS IS FLCL's violence and sex and weirdness and stuff, BUT THEY TOOK IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL!"
I should have known that was the kiss of death. But I second guessed myself, and since I had read a good review and since FLCL was the only series that gave me hope in animation again, never mind ANIME, and since I had been given a slight bonus at work...
... I didn't follow my gut instinct and shelled out the (...). Like a sucker.
Don't get me wrong, I love my violence and sexual deviance. Shucks howdy, ICHI THE KILLER is one of my favorites! But those characters are FASCINATING and have a depth to their morbid actions, not slack-jawed attempts at Ren & Stimpy humor. I don't think there's a genuine obsession at work here, just Japanese anime writers trying to be "hip."
People compare it to INVADER ZIM - no dice boys, there's a neat psychology at work with those amoral characters that pays off in the action. The FLCL comparison in particular hurts, especially since I.G. did SUCH a GOOD job there! Yeah, its like FLCL with worse animation, no subtlety, boring action, and no dramatic core that pulls the random logic together.
There are however characters with drills for (...), a single good (...)joke, bad sex humor, and a bull-hoo sybolism to the title. If that sounds like heaven topped with whipped cream, go for it. Me, if that's taking it to the next level I'll kick it down a notch anyday with a guitar to the forehead.
Visually, it reminds me of a 90's LOBO comic or Heavy Metal (but unfortunately the animation is "XTREME" and choppy) and the story would fit into the latter magazine, especially the issues where all the jokes fall flat, but some kind of interesting visual elements are there. Plus, no music on par with the Pillows' or Yoko Kanno's. Picture and sound quality's good on the disc, hence the ** rating.
I don't mind having sat through it at only 50 minutes long, but there's a lesson to be learned from my mistake: NEVER trust a comic-store owner when your heart tells you to save the $25.
Rating: Summary: Headache Inducing Review: One of the worst animes I have ever seen which is a damn shame knowing it was made by Production I.G. They really need to get their act together. I mean the stuff they did in Kill Bill was amazing and the animation in Blood: The last Vampire was great but the story was so weak overall and it wasn't long enough. What is the deal? Also this is too short to waste your money on the purchase...It is only 50 minutes. Basically this is a poor stab at violent bonnie and clyde-ish pop/abstract art/anime that fails on a number of levels.
Rating: Summary: Zany fun in the vein of Scud, Aeon Flux and Tank Girl Review: Simply put, Dead Leaves is not for everyone. The action is frantic and uncontrollable, the plot is reminiscent of something Lewis Carroll would dream up, and it has an almost childish sense of humor. Viewing it for the first time was a complete assault on my senses; Scenes move forward at such a break-neck pace that I can't help but think the animators all suffer from ADD.
Dead Leaves is an ode to senseless, over-the-top violence. At times, it almost feels like an animated version of the indie comic, Scud: The Disposable Assassin. There are some definite western influences present, and the animation is very reminiscent of Peter Chung's works.
If it seems like I've been relying heavily on comparisons to other works to describe Dead Leaves, you'd be correct. On its own merits, it's nearly indescribable. Suffice it to say that, if you enjoyed any of the works I've mentioned so far, then you should at least rent Dead Leaves. If you think anime is all about weird sexual fetishes and characters with big eyes (or if you judge all anime by how it stacks up to Dragonball Z), then don't bother.
Rating: Summary: WASTE OF TIME & MONEY! Review: This anime is HORRIBLE! It's as if they gave a 10-13 yr old a piece of paper to wirte the script and come up w/ the story. It's like Bongman and Chronic from Chasing Amy/Jay and Silent Bob: Strikes Back. Unless that's all you're looking for in an Anime is a whole movie of sexual comments and a waste of time, by all means this is the anime for you. Oh and by the way those sexual comments are from one man to another. It's horrible and a waste of time. Save your money.
Rating: Summary: Close the Door, They're Coming Through The Windows... Review: This is possible the most frantic anime I have ever seen. Retro and Panda, who look like characters straight out of FLCL awake on a dark street with no memories and a yen for violence. After a violent robbery and chase scene they are packed of to a prison of no return on the moon. They are fed, purges, and packed of into a cell where a momentary indiscretion somehow catapults them into a jailbreak.
From this point the story becomes on long chase and fight scene, complete with escalating bosses at the end of each level. In bits and pieces we find out Retro and Panda's previous history, and the secrets behind the walls of Dead Leaves. Nothing really ever quite makes sense, but it really isn't necessary that it does. Dead Leaves is a 'show off' piece, where twisted creativity and virtuoso animation are the real purpose of the show.
It's hard to believe that this comes from the same people who put together the atmospheric "Blood: The Last Vampire" and the beautifully drawn "Kai Doh Maru." The closest analog would be the aforementioned FLCL, without all the quiet parts. The first watching leaves a chaotic impression and it takes several more viewings before you start to pick up on a lot of the sight gags.
This isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, especially for a US audience which has become accustomed to the new generation of anime. But it is fun in a loud, lewd, hyperactive fashion. At the first viewing the writer confided that what he wanted was for the audience to get drunk and start dancing. I'm not sure if it will take you that way, but it gives you a good idea of the driving force behind the film.
Rating: Summary: a japanese dedication to american animation Review: you know the new wave of american animated tv shows like courage the cowardly dog, dexter laboratory and i am weasel.well ,this film has a similar character design.it disappointed me at first but thankfuly the anime style of directing, adolescence sense of humor, silly nudity and off the wall violence are still here.
the story is a bout two runaway amensia cases .a female with a panda make up on,pandy.and a tv headed male, retro.who in their search for their past run havoc across town, get arrested and sent to the deformed clones prison on the moon, dead leaves.and once they arrive there ,they continue their chaotic mayhem ride.helped by a line up of the weirdest characters i ever saw in an anime film ,so far.
its violent, fast, has a weak story, alot of mayhem fun and R rated.
even the dvd extras are R rated.where we see the director hiroyuki imaishi advising getting drunk before watching his film, if we want to really enjoy it.there are also a directer's commentary, festival interviews, truth or doubt game with some of the cast and the recording session.
and yes ladies and gentlemen,it does remind you of FLCL.
but is it that good? not really.
alot of fun? definitely.
a poster of the film is included in this dvd.on it's back there is a drawing of a police line up of some of dead leave's inmates.understandably chinko drillo is not there.
