Thriller - A Cruel Picture

Summary: Unreasonably bland
Review: Great story, terribly executed. A real chore to get through, and not for it's "harshness", but for my ability to refrain from pressing the fast forward button. Now, I'm not the kind of egg yoke for brains that has to have non-stop action to keep me entertained, but really, this movie is slower than a slug with a slipped disk. That, and the almost complete lack of musical score make this would be awesome movie extremely boring. No doubt the story is indeed powerful, and yes harsh, it is the way in which it is told that makes it so unenjoyable.

Review: How did this film ever earn the reputation that it has? "Greatest revenge movie ever" you've got to be kidding. Let me tell you the truth...

A young girl is playing with an old man in a park. The old man has what appears to be a heart attack, but later you realize that was him raping the girl. Shoot forward a decade and the girl is now a mute. One day she is standing by the side of the road when up rolls a Austin Powers impersonator who asks her "Can you give me one good reason why you shouldn't let me give you a ride into town?" so unable to come up with JUST one reason she hops in. They eat at a restaurant before he takes her back to his swingers pad. He spikes her wine and out she goes.

He pumps her full of heroin for 10 days then when she wakes up - in the same position she fell asleep - he informs her that she is now going to bang people for money. She attacks the first john so Austin stabs out one of her eyes. She cooperates then.

She only has three customers, who repeat throughout the movie, but what doesn't make any sense is they give her money and in between having sex she LEAVES to take judo lessons, shooting lessons and attend driving school!!!!!!!!!! Then she returns every night for more abuse.

Finally one day she just shows up at one john's house (how did she get the address?) and shoots him in extreme slow motion. She kills two more at a bar. Also in slo-mo.

She goes to a warehouse, kills two assassins and beats up two cops (all in slo-mo). Then in the craziest and funniest part of the movie she steals a police car, runs a bunch of people off the road (all the cars explode!!!) and ends up at a deserted fishing village where somebody (who?) shoots at her so she runs off and mails a letter to her pimp.

He meets her in a field; she shoots in three times (slo-mo) in the knee then has a horse (where'd he come from?) rip the pimp's head of (off-screen). The End.

Absolutely horrible, nearly unwatchable if it wasn't so funny. Christina Lindberg does not look good. The hardcore sex scenes are nothing but close ups of body parts. Wow. Are they even shots of Christina or just spliced in shots from some lame XXX movie? You'd be better of watching ILSA SHE-WOLF OF THE SS again.


Also the DVD says it's limited to 25,000 but it's not even numbered.

Summary: POW !- this movie hits hard.
Review: I am not used to graphic sex scenes inserted into my "normal" movie collection, but here, it happens. Necessary? maybe not. But stylistically, it may have seemed stranger if the film had pulled any of its punches, as the rest of it is so jarringly frank and impolite. The victim / heroine is super-killer-kick ass, but I would rather have seen some of the fight scenes sped up a little bit, or at least not shot in slo-mo, to give the movie some more forward momentum; even when she goes on her revenge rampage, a sort-of stagnant quality persists. As a result, it may fail to draw thrill-seekers fully into the action, which lessens the movie's impact. I learned about this film from the Joe Bob Briggs audio track on "I Spit On Your Grave" and was, overall, glad I checked it out. If you dig exploitation cinema, this is a must-see. And Christina Lindberg? YOWZA!

Summary: A landmark of extreme cinema.
Review: I purchased "Thriller - A Cruel Picture" soon after its release, and I have to say, I enjoyed the film immensely. Everyone who says that this film is filled with gratuitous sex and violence is absolutely right. However, anyone who says that those aren't necessary in this picture are incorrect. While the filmakers went a little overboard with their adult content, it is essential to the plot that the viewer be made to sympathize with Madeline, antagonize her captor and perhaps even be able to justify the extreme lengths to which she goes to enact her revenge. All in all this cult revenge film delivers on its name.

Review: i wont bore you with details of the excellent dvd content,for those wont matter much if you are not a fan of the film.
this "golden oldie" exploitation movie should be filed under the RAPE/REVENGE genre,so know what you are getting into before delving into this nasty,nasty film.
one should be warned that their are hardcore sex scenes (including anal!)interspersed with the other violent imagery.
if you are a fan of the genre,add another star - for the uninitiated,be in for a slowly paced,quite tastless movie experience.

Summary: Yuck!
Review: Let me start by saying that I have seen plenty of pornography and also plenty of violent films. I was interested in seeing this film as I had heard that this was one of the movies that had inspired Quentin Tarintino's "Kill Bill" Duet. I am not in any way offended by sexually explicit material, nor am I bothered by violence. However, after watching this film I have come to the conclusion that it has no socially redeeming value as art or even as pornography.

"Thriller-A Cruel Picture" is a sad commentary on how far Western culture has slid into decay that there are those that can find this entertaining. It is essentially the story of a child that is kidnapped, hooked on heroin by her kidnapper and than forced to work as a prostitute to support her habit and to provide enough money to train herself for revenge. The sex scenes are graphic and though the actress at the time of the filming was an adult (barely) and there were most likely body-doubles (...) this thing in my opinion is child pornography of the most brutal kind. It ties in violence and sexuality which has been proven to be a deadly mixture. I believe in freedom of speech, but just because you can make a film like this doesn't mean that you should.

I for one dumped my copy in the garbage.

Summary: And I Thought 'Blood Freak' Was Bad!
Review: Ok, there's good-bad and there's bad-bad. Right? Bad-bad, As in, how did they ever even finance this piece of garbage? As in, it must have been shot by a drunk! This movie has ZERO cult appeal. It is NOT the next "I Spit On Your Grave" and don't get sucked in thinking you'll see some cool ultra-violence for a foreign land. No, what you'll see is gun play sequences shot in such traumatically super-slow motion that you can get up and make a sammich n' come back and the guy who got shot still hasn't hit the floor yet. Neither has the now solidified stream of slo-mo blood reeling from his lips in glorious technocolor ORANGE! As for plot: Little girl gets molested in a park, is traumatized into a mute, wanders from the family farm, gets picked up by a sleazy pimp who drugs her, gouges out her eye and keeps her as a hooker for special clients who all come to their much deserved deaths when this one-eyed chick finally saves up enough cash to take endless self-defense lessons. Oh, and that's where the utterly relentless, pointless hardcore sex shots come in. Out of the blue, we're treated to gynecological closeups of screwing and ejaculation that are not only just plain nasty to look at, but serve no purpose, look like they were dropped in as an after thought, are not sexy and are lit like something from a biology film on coitus. I don't need to see a wanker dripping semen all over a crotch, thank you. GEEZ. Then to top it all off, the revenge is just so damned irritatingly slow and unoriginal that you'd be better entertained watching paint dry. Oh, and if you're looking for secret hard core scenes in easy to buy online movies that aren't rated XXX don't bother, you'll not see anything worth paying for. Though the hard core shots are explicit, they are quick and few. They just serve to make the movie ridiculously nasty and nothing more.

Summary: Wow...
Review: This film, brought from obscurity by Synapse Films, is a genuine masterpiece.

First off, I have to credit Synapse for doing an outstanding job on converting this film to dvd. Not only did they include the English dub, but they include the original Swedish dub with English subtitiles...something that Blue Underground (another cult dvd reviver) refuses to do! (????) So, you can expect great quality, and options with the audio. PERFECT!

The story is of revenge. Pure and simple. Lindberg does a great job of acting...admittedly powerful, given the fact that she doesn't speak a word throughout her performance! An example is her scene shooting heroin where you do not see the needle, but her face. I have to say, that I think it is real. Either she spent a good deal of time watching people do it, or she was in fact doing it. It just looked too real. PERFECT!

Bo's use of the viewer's imagination was the foundation. This was the most important part of the film, and I think all the other reviewers did NOT see what Bo was trying to say with this film. Your imagination is more powerful than seeing something itself. He said this with the intro, the turning point, and the ending.
intro-rape. imagine.
turning point-only friend dies in bedridden bloodbath. imagine.
ending-the horse and the rope. imagine.

Bo probably laughed at his reviews. Not many probably got it. What is sex? He'll show you. What is drug use? He'll show you. What is murder? He'll show you. What is ten times more powerful, and will remain in memory further than some of the more graphic scenes in this movie? Your imagination.

Summary: Thriller: a boring picture
Review: This movie makes watching paint dry look like "The Killer" by John Woo. The action in this movie is not only barely present, it is also shot in extreme slow motion, thus rendering the action actionless. One would do better to buy a can of some sugary beverage, open it, pour it into a glass and sit watching it day after day until it congeals into some sort of moldy mass; that would be much more exciting and entertaining.

The music/soundtrack:

The music and soundtrack consists of some idiot who scraped together the money to buy an echoplex or whatever other early 70s echo device was around and then piped almost every sound through the device in order to make the viewer want to find him and break his toys.

I have already dedicated too much time to this stinker.
