Rating: Summary: Absolute garbage! Review: My god this movie is so bad that I'd rather get a root canal than watch it. DMX shouldn't have even taken this role. It wasn't worth it for him. This movie was disturbing and off-key. I mean it was disturbing how Reagan Preston-Gomez's character got corrupted in this movie and I felt she just got type-casted and so did Michael Ealy. This is the movie that he chooses after The Barbershops? Oh man! I saw no relevance to having that soap opera star involved with X. That aspect could of been done away with. Everybody involved in this movie should be ashamed of themselves. No offense X! Ernest R. Dickerson, the man who brought us Juice, really shot a blank with this. I hope he rebounds to direct a better movie than this. And don't even put this movie in the same class as Empire. Empire flows way better and the plot was on cue. This movie though should have never seen the light of day!
Rating: Summary: MAKE MORE DONALD GOINES NOVELS TO FILM Review: I AM A READER OF DONALD GOINES NOVELS AND NEVER DIE ALONE THE FILM CAPTURES THE STORY AND UPDATE IT.MY FAVORITE CHARACTER

Rating: Summary: "We reap what we sow..." Review: "Never Die Alone" is a dark and bleak crime drama/noir that never makes any apologies for its brutality or harshness. Definitely not something for people with weak stomachs, the movie is a great example of showing you what goes around comes around, even if you decide it's time to change your life. As harsh as the movie can be, I think it was very well done and took some really good risks. This is definitely something that doesn't come out of typical Hollywood.DMX plays King David, a notorious drug dealer who has a solid rep and one hell of a dark past. He decides it's time to make things right and hopefully find some sort of redemption. Well, things don't work out like that as his past mistakes finally catch up to him with unrelenting results. A would-be reporter gets caught in the middle of the crossfire and ends up learning about David's horrible past through his own cassette tapes that he had made. What is revealed to him is a grim story about drugs and violence in unspeakable proportions. I was actually expecting the movie to be nothing but non-stop "street violence," but it ended up being a lot more clever than that. There's an actual storyline to it that works, along with some great performances from the cast. Even though this isn't a perfect movie, I think it is a very good one. DMX is absolutely chilling and unforgiving in his role of "King David." So unforgiving that he even admits in a making-of featurette on the DVD that he had a hard time with some of the things his character does in the film. You can tell that he was determined to become the character, as he does a great job of selling it. David Arquette and Michael Ealy also give terrific performances and should not be forgotten. The DVD doesn't have a whole lot to offer, but there are some extras included. You have the option of either watching the widescreen or fullscreen version of the movie. Extras included are commentary, a making-of-featurette, trailers and deleted scenes. While it doesn't offer a whole ton of extras, there are a couple that you can check out. It goes without saying that the movie is dark and brutal. If you're looking for a happy-go-lucky type of movie, then this is something you will not want to even take a chance on. As harsh as this movie can be, I don't think it's gratuitous, which was something I was expecting it to be. Still, this is something that isn't for everybody. I think that "Never Die Alone" is a well done movie with some unforgettable performances. A real urban-gangster picture that isn't all fluff and empty calories. It actually has something to say. -Michael Crane
Rating: Summary: get off your f-ing soapboxes, people! Review: (...). clearly put, this movie divided people. people who got it (new york times, roger ebert, la weekly, village voice, among others) saw it for what it is: an objective portrait of a unredeemable sociopath told in the first person from the sociopath's pov; the more close minded falsely state that the movie glorifies violence and bad behavior and is misogynist, stereotypical, etc. is it the greatest movie in the world, no. but answer me this: when was the last time you saw a movie released by a major studio (20th Century Fox, who mercilessly dumped the movie after selling it as a straight shoot-em-up and not knowing how to properly market it) that dealt with morally ambiguous characters, didn't spell out its moral and didn't pull any punches when it came to depicting the dark side of its characters' deeds? this isn't an art film, per se (though it did premiere at sundance), but it is an artful genre picture that can't be easily pigeonholed. a gritty, down and dirty indy movie that, if it didn't have the baggage of DMX haters out there, or had been in another language or with white leads, would have been hailed as "unsparing and uncomprimising." the question is, how do you like your violence depicted? with a smirk and wink, ala tarantino, or with a dose of reality that takes into account the full consequences? also, (...) I direct your attention to the original novel upon which it was based (not to mention the entire ouevre of novelist Donald Goines, available a click away here on Amazon), which is positively bleak and even MORE violent and dark than the movie. rent this, it's a good movie. better yet, buy it. it deserved better than it got from its distributor and hopefully will have a life on video. and for all the haters out there, DMX CAN act. he's damn good in this movie. see for yourself. (plus, wouldn't you want to buy it for his commentary alone? that voice.....). (...) that's it. seacrest out.
Rating: Summary: THIS GANGSTA MOVIE ACTUALLY ISN'T BAD!; 3.5 STARS Review: A DRUG DEALER [DMX] TRYS CONSTANTLY TO GO STRAIGHT. BUT NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES, HE KEEPS GETTING LOCKED INTO THE DRUG WORLD. BUT WHEN HE IS KILLED ONE NIGHT, A WRITER [DAVID ARQUETTE] TRYS TO FIND OUT WHY HE DIED. SURE, IT HAS ALL THE USUAL CHARACTERS YOU'VE COME TO EXPECT FROM A GANGSTA MOVIE, BUT THE ACTING IS ACTUALLY GOOD AND THE PLOT IS A LOT BETTER THAN USUAL AND THE ENDING IS ACTUALLY CLEVER TOO. BEFORE YOU DECIDE THAT THIS IS JUST YOUR USUAL GANGSTA MOVIE, GIVE THIS A TRY. BASED ON THE DONALD GOINES NOVEL.
Rating: Summary: NOT A GREAT MOVIE,BUT, NOT A BAD ONE EITHER Review: DMX plays King David a charasmatic street thug who returns home to seek back his throne, but is not welcomed with open arms. David Arquette plays a suprising dramatic role as a reporter, who peices King David's story together a little to quickly and over zealously for the movie's own good.
Overall, a suprisingly good movie.
Rating: Summary: Reagan-Gomez Preston was Fab and This Movie Was A+ Review: I admit I am not a big fan of DMX movies, but this movie is truly excellent. The acting was great. DMX shined as King David because of his grimey rap lyrics he was very believable as the dirty shady character. The character that impressed me the most was the acting by Reagan Gomez-Preston. She has played such goody-goody roles in the past I never imagined that she could so convincingly play a dramatic role but she was a scene stealer. Michael Ealy and David Arquette were great too, as was the storyline. It looks like the movie was shot on film and didn't make the transition to DVD that great, it seemed grainy and dark in parts but I loved this movie, although it was a bit violent for my taste.
Rating: Summary: GREAT MOVIE !!!! EVEN BETTER THEN 'JUICE' Review: I don't care if the movie did bad in the theaters. That just means the quicker it goes to DVD. I am not probably going to order it I'll go buy it because I live right by a video store. I recommend watching this movie. I read the book and liked it but with X in the movie it was even cooler then the book. And screw the amazon editor he ain't a bad actor (AMAZON JUST LOST A SALE HERE!!!). And stop saying that X should quit. HE IS THE BEST RAPPER EVER.
Rating: Summary: Couldnt make it past half the film Review: I like DMX but this movie just plain blows. Did someone use an old camcorder to film it? The lighing, sound and everything totally sucked. It's not even a full hour and a half long. I think I made it about 40 minutes and shut it off.
Rating: Summary: If you liked the book you'll like the movie Review: I read the book Never die alone and it was nice to see it as a motion picture. If your not a fan of Donald goins or DMX then you may not like it, but over all it was a decent movie. Remeber DMX is a rapper not a actor so it's unfair to judge him on the same standards as you would a Densel Washington or Morgan Freeman. DMX does a good job of depicting King. It won't win any oscars, but worth renting when it comes out
