Summary: A Style over Substance Thriller that Does its Job Well.
Review: "The Fan" is a Very Underrated Thriller that, although it's Body count in Minuscule compared to Most of it's Peers, Never Lags or Bored me. It is Far too Visually Stunning to get boring, there is Never Nothing going on; thanks to it's Director, Tony Scott. He (with a lot of help from Han Zimmer's Arresting score and many, many remixes of great "Nine Inch Nails" songs) has proven that you can take an Average script, stock it with A Grade actors, and make a Truly Memorable Film, that Entertains, as well as Affects the audience.Robert De Niro Has played this kind of role before, and done it Better, but he still shines here as an Obsessed fan who will stop at Nothing to be in his Heroes Life. Wesley Snipes has Also played this role before, but unlike De Niro, he gives one of his Best performances as the Hero who has to battle through a Slump in his career, Team-mates that Can't Stand him, Crowds and Commentators Turning on him and an Obsessed Fan, to boot. They are both Well Baked up by an Exceptional Supporting cast. Benicio Del Toro looked the part and talks the talk. (it's just a shame I could barely understand him) John Leguizamo is one of my Favourite actors, and here, he's as Good as Ever, and Ellen Barkin is Likeable in an Unlikeable role. It mightn't bring anything New to the screen, but what it Does bring is Visually Amazing, Brilliantly Acted, Professionally Produced and Competently Written.

Review: A poorly concieved movie, it was unconvincing and predictable. The music of NIN, which in itself is pretty good, does not mesh with the actual action of the movie at all. Don't waste your money on this sleeper.

Summary: This movie is Tight!
Review: Brilliant Acting. Brilliant Acting. Brilliant Acting. Robert De Niro has skills and plays the role of a crazy man EXTREMELY well. Snipes performance can be mentioned but pales in comparison to De Niro's performance. he made me consider why he was crazy. Excellent character development of Snipes and De Niro. You even get to know the agent pretty well and see what kind of person they are. De Niro's character, after the frequent problems with his family and job, and also with Raybury( snipes), finally snaps kills a player and kidnaps Raybury's child. The suspense for this movie is great. I suggest that you see this movie to see how great a performance De Niro has. A truly talented actor. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat. A must see thriller!

Summary: De Niro strikes again.
Review: De Niro blends the roles of Rupert Pupkin and Max Cady in this pretty entertaining film about a man on the edge of madness. Gil Rennard is a knife salesman whose life is in tatters. His sales figures are down and he can't get them up. His estranged wife wants him far away and even attempts to bond with his son end on a note of disaster. Throughout it all, he remains loyal to baseball and to one player in particular, played with charm and finesse by Wesley Snipes. When Snipes career starts to slump, Gil takes matters in his own hands and murders a rival player on the same team. Gil's long slide into fantasy and madness ends with the kidnapping of Snipes's young son and an ill-organized and ultimately disastrous confrontation with his favorite player in front of fifty thousand fans. This plot is slightly ageworn and there's nothing especially original in its execution here, but De Niro carries the film with his usual charismatic intensity, and as ever, elevates what could be commonplace to wholly new levels.

Summary: Underrated Deniro thriller
Review: Deniro proves once again that he can play a deranged lunatic as well as anything else. Too bad this didn't do too well upon its release back in 1996. I think most moviegoers at the time weren't into this kind of theme. They had seen it before in "Falling Down" with Michael Douglas and found it unsettling.
But if you happen to be a fan of both Deniro and baseball, then this is for you!

Summary: Promising, But Ultimately Disappointing
Review: Despite some style, rythm and a couple of intriguing ideas, this Tony Scott`s movie soon falls into most of the cliches that trap a typical Hollywood blockbuster.
Wesley Snipes plays a baseball star that ends up being the object of devotion and obsession of a lonely, convulted man (Robert DeNiro). The picture builds a growing tension, yet the second part lives on the strenght of chases, kidnappings and tiresome predictability. Nine Inch Nails are a fine addition to the soundtrack, helping the development of the paranoid plot, but the movie is still too flawed and unsurprising to truly engage.
Not too good not too bad. Watchable.

Review: Dont listen to what some reviewers on here say because I dont think they know what they are talking about. I read that some guy said he brings back the travis bickle type character, thats not true, travis was a depressed lonely guy who liked a girl but she didnt like him so he tried to save another girl, he was shy, Deniros character in this may be lonley but he doesnt want love and he is not shy at all. Another said he brings out the Max Cady, nope, Max was a rapist and a killer, Deniros chacter in this may kill but he doesnt rape. I think people get the wrong impression from this movie, i think its great. I've also heard people say the story is unbelievable, but these are the same people who go home and watch blade and the matrix. I think the acting is great, its a good role for Deniro since his character is in almost every scene and has a lot of dialouge. And whoever says the NIN song is used too much, thats untrue, they dont even start playing it until a while into the movie. All I have to say is Deniro gives a great performance of a die hard fan. Rent this first then judge about buying or not. The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because I wish there was just a little more action but its still good without it.

Review: F-U to the critics. This movie is more than a thriller. It catches the emotions of a man defeated by society- his rage. from his failed marriage and job, he trns into something we all dislike.... but can all emphasize with. PS-if you haven't seen the film BASQUIAT, go see it.

Summary: De Niro lives in a mean, mean world.
Review: Gil (Robert De Niro) appears to inhabit the same parallel universe as the characters in "Glengarry Glen Ross," where all conversation consists of yelled obscenities. It's all a little exaggerated, and De Niro doesn't really seem crazy/dangerous until at least an hour into the film. His leap off the deep end also stretches credibility. Then there's the "crazy collage" of newspaper clippings about the target of his obsession, Giants outfielder Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes). Its only purpose was to remind me of a similar device in "The Bodyguard" which surprisingly, was more suspenseful. De Niro's character seems to be acting on impulse, as if he's confused about what his next move will be, which makes him seem a lot less scary.
