Rating: Summary: A must-see for all! Review: Suffice it to say - BEAUTIFUL. A very powerful movie (a better movie than Titanic). The actors, esp Anthony Hopkins, were brilliant. Soundtrack was amazing too... It was worth the watch. A beautiful remake of "Death takes a holiday".
Rating: Summary: too long, too boring Review: To make it short, a plot with great possibilities gone sour. The actor's great performances can't justify almost three hours of boredom
Rating: Summary: Is it over yet? Review: Is it physically possible to stretch a barely 90 minute idea into a full blown 180 minute film? Well, despite all theories, this movie seems to prove it possible. How? Endless, endless, ENDLESS scenes that serve no purpose. Dialogue so painful. Symbolic shots that you just don't give a damn about. A stupid sub plot about corporate take over that does not serve a point!! Although I have sat through 3 hour films before and lived through them to watch it again just because they didn't feel that long, Meet Joe Black in the isolated movie watching world where there is no time piece, feels like 7 hours. Anthony Hopkins, a great actor, is not at all the saving part and Pitt, well, try something else to impress us. And as for director Martin Brest, what were you thinking? If you're going to make a 3 hour movie, put an idea or two in it. And as for the ying yangs who gave Brest the approval for final cut, I want those three hours back!!--wc
Rating: Summary: Wonderful love story Review: This movie was great. I loved the relationship between Anthony Hopkin's character and his daughters, their's was almost as good as Brad Pitt's with the leading lady. Great choice of actors for the parts too. I don't buy many videos but I can't wait to get my hands on one of these for myself! I think the critics really missed on their reviews on this movie.
Rating: Summary: good but...... Review: well, i love anthony hopkins, brad pitt is okay. but the movie was awesome and each actor was brilliant! i really got sucked into the movie you laugh, cry and feel sorry for the older sister. it was really nice to see brad pitt play such a diverse person. when he plays Death he is very convincing and almost humerous in some aspects. go see it a must - yet you will leave with questions that you may feel have been unanswered fill in the blanks!
Rating: Summary: a must-see that touches virtually every emotion Review: This is a great performance by both Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt. Hopkins portrays a man literally gazing into the face of death who beautifully illustrates his love for his family and the love of life itself above anything else. Pitt is quite entertaining with little tidbits of humor here and there. What is most impressive about this film is Hopkins' elegant monologues in which he offers "the secrets of life" so perfectly. He is truly one of the greatest actors of all time in my opinion. This film is first class in virtually every aspect and should not be missed.
Rating: Summary: Great photography, good acting, beautiful cast Review: In MJB, Brad Pitt portrays "Death" who decides to take a holiday on earth and experience what it is like to be a mortal. First, he takes the life of a charming lawyer (portrayed by Brad Pitt again, of course) and chooses Bill Parish, a rich tycoon and whom he sees as a perfect example of a successful human being, to show him the ropes. Bill has no choice because "Death" told him that he is actually here to claim Bill's life as his time is almost up, but he will postpone that task so long as he is enjoying his stay on earth. But "Death" did not prepare himself to fall in love with Bill's daughter, the lovely Susan (demurely played by Claire Forlani) and vice versa. Of course, Bill raises hell and objects strongly when he found out. So, will "Death" get to be together with Susan in the end or will he have to go away? What will happen to Susan and Bill? I guess you have to watch the movie to find out. Brad Pitt and Claire Forlani are beautiful looking and makes a great pair. I'm only dissapointed by the ending, which left me wondering whether the lawyer/attorney (killed off earlier in the movie so that "Death" could take over his body) was brought back to life again or whether "Death" decided to stay for a while more on earth. I raise this question because "Death" may have the power to take a person's life when his/her time is up, but I don't think "Death" can make a dead person (the lawyer) come to life! Could someone write and tell me his/her views? Despite the above, I highly recommend this movie for its great storyline and fine acting. Also, Brad Pitt looks absolutely divine in suit.
Rating: Summary: Best Movie I have ever seen Review: A perfect photographic setting, 3 of the best actors of this time, very sexy, touching and a lot of real great humour: This is a masterpiece of film making as we see it only once in a decennium. 3 hours of first grade entertainment, you will indulge and be carried from tears to laughter. Only a Pitt-y we have to wait 10 years for something new even coming close? A movie you can watch over and over again, you will not be bored but detect more suble details.\. GREAT ! Meet Joe Black made me finally buy a DVD player, can't wait to get the disk.
Rating: Summary: Total Remake: Meet Joe Black on a Holiday. Review: Why do I say this? Brest's remake of the 1934 "Death takes a Holiday" was quite a cute little film. Aside from the fact that Pitt was sorely criticized by fans and critics for just being "cute"--by way of sucking on a spoon of peanut butter for about ten minutes--this film was rather good. I thoroughly enjoyed Pitt and Hopkins, and the movie's soundtrack (superbly done by Thomas Newman [Horse Whisperer]). Brest did an awesome job with his vision. I have to wonder, however, if anyone really saw the film for what it was worth--for what it stood for. I'm sick of people going to see Pitt for his good looks and not for his acting. He is a wonderful actor who works hard at his JOB! And, as usual, Pitt takes a sticky and potentially vapid situation and turns it into triumph. Congratulations, Brad.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Movie! Review: If you looking for a touching, romantic movie, then look no furthur than Meet Joe Black. I know Brad Pitt gets a bad wrap sometimes, but I think he gives a great performance in this film along with Anthony Hopkins. The finale at the end of this film will leave you in tears and goosebumps.
