Rating: Summary: Brad Pitt is not just another pretty face Review: When are the powers that be gonna finally realize that Brad Pitt is one very fine actor and deserves to be recognized for more than his good looks? Anyone who can play next to Anthony Hopkins and through little more than facial and body language command the stage is someone to be reckoned with. All of the performances in this film were top-notch; the story is highly emotional without ever lapsing into sentimentality. I did not find the movie too long at all because all of the characters were so riveting that I simply lost myself in them. I think this film, like Les Miserables, was a bigger box office success in Europe than in the states. In any case, popularity at the box office most certainly does not necessarily coincide with the quality or value of a film.
Rating: Summary: One of the BEST movies ever made!!! Review: Even if you are not a Brad Pitt or Anthony Hopkins fan you have just got to love this movie. The three hours just flew by. This movie embraces every feeling any human can possibly express. If death comes looking like Brad Pitt, I'm ready to go!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Death couldn't get any better than this! Review: I absolutely adore Brad Pitt. I absolutely adore Anthony Hopkins. I have the soundtrack which means I absolutely adore Thomas Newman. I thought that Martin Brest did a great job with this remake of "Death takes a Holiday". I believe that critics have undermined the initial message of the story by coating reviews with lots of "Brad-is-just-another-sexy-movie-star-who-is-cast-because-the-execs-know-they'll-make-a-pretty-penny-off-of-his-looks". Brad works VERY hard, and he tries to do his best NO MATTER THE PROJECT. Sure, he's good-looking, but he has depth of character. He proves this to be true in "Joe Black" as he did in "Devil's Own", "Seven", "Legends of the Fall", and "Dark Side of the Sun" [to name a few]. I don't think Brad will go down on the Walk of Fame as just another cute blonde. I think he is classically timeless.
Rating: Summary: It took a half hour too long to end! Review: While it was a very entertaining and well acted movie, it was far too long. The last half hour is drawn out, which made the film loose its charm with me.
Rating: Summary: Brad Pitt does it again:) Review: Well, Brad Pitt shows remarkable depth for being the guy who went on Oprah and said his favorite candy is Twizzlers! I don't know one female who didn't leave that theatre crying or at least ready to call their dads immediately! He was incredibly touching and true in this role. Good choice, Brad...
Rating: Summary: REALLY WONDERFUL Review: After hearing what a bomb this movie was I finally decided to see it mainly because of Brad Pitt who is such a beautiful man. I was thoroughly taken away by the beautiful photography, sets, and the script. This movie was made first class all the way and I was not bored for one second of the three hours! How could anyone say this was a bomb? Brad is not only beautiful to look at, but a wonderful actor. His accent when talking to the Jamaican lady showed how he is a true master at his craft. I enjoyed their two exchanges in the hospital when the old lady recognizes his true identity. I thought all the other actors were exceptional, Jeffrey Tambor being one of the standouts. I was relieved that the sex scene was tastefully done with only the faces being shown and Joe Black's showing the range of emotions of a 'first time'. All of his 'first times' were fun to watch as his face showed interest, disgust or glee. Great film - see it soon!
Rating: Summary: The Most Underrated Movie of All Time!! Review: Meet Joe Black has been one of the most enjoyable movies a have seen in years. Though it was somewhat of a box office failure (possibly due to its 3 hour lenght and the wavering status of Brad Pitt), it has a way of bringing you into the movie and evoking all your deep and maybe forgotten emotions. This is a movie for a variety of age groups,a movie for anyone with a pure heart and a creative imagination. Yes, you will cry, you will laugh, you will hope and in the end you will feel free and rewarded. As I had stated earlier, the movie is 3 hours( like Titanic)long, however, you will never really notice the time going by. Hopkins and Pitt should get Oscar's for their performances. Finally, remember that not all movies do well at the box office. Some have a way of slipping by. This is one such movie. Try it, I am sure that you won't be disapointed.
Rating: Summary: You Will Enjoy Review: Why can you watch this movie 10 times and still be exited to see it again? Why do all your friends who did not see this movie because of some bad reviews like it so much, that they like to see it again? Why wouldn't you want to miss a single minute of it's 3 hrs? Because "Meet Joe script, a superb cast, directing with a vision. Even the smallest details Brad Pitt has never been better and more sexy; Anthony Hopkins and Claire Forlani give a world class acting performance. This story has depth, it takes you from suspense to romance to comedy, from laughter to tears. You sound track, excellent picture quality and generous extras! A real steal for the price. I wish Meet Joe Black would run even an hour longer...what about a director's cut in the future
Rating: Summary: one of my three favorite films! Review: I must admit that while many groaned at the long running time, I was thinking, "Hey, it's 3 hours of Brad Pitt! How can I complain about that?". But I would have loved this movie even if I wasn't in love with Brad (I would like to mention that I don't appreciate him simply for his looks but for his acting. He is too often unfairly criticized for being a "pretty boy". He is a talented actor who just happens to be incredibly good loking, and he should not be put down for that.). Anthony Hopkins is a fabulous actor and brings a lot of warmth and sweetness to his role of a business tycoon with a slightly dysfunctional family who happens to be facing death--literally. The beautiful Claire Forlani plays Susan with demure subtlety and grace, and Marcia Gay Harden and Jeffrey Tambor are delightful as Alison and Quince. Brad Pitt does well in the role of Death trying to fit in with the living--many of his "discoveries" are absolutely adorable. This movie is full of romance--Joe and Susan's first kiss is one of the best movie kisses of all time in my opinion. Brad and Claire have excellent chemistry, and Mr. Hopkins is perfect as a father making amends as he prepares to leave the world behind. Overall, it is a beautiful movie with age-old but important lessons about love and life. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Yet another film that should have been nominated... Review: This is one of my favorite films of 1998. After watching it, despite the fact that I hated the remake of Psycho, I felt that Universal was wrong for firing Casey Silver. Instead they should have turned their attention to the advertising department. I watched the trailer after the film and saw how incorrectly the trailer depicted the movie. As for the film's length, I will agree that there were some aspects that felt unnecessary, but for the most part, the three hours went by quickly.
