Summary: Good to watch instead of taking a sleeping pill!
Review: The first time I saw this was at the movie theatre with a couple of friends. Well needless to say we all fell asleep. So I figured I would it give it another shot. Since it was a midnight movie. And once again it put me right out. This movie just drags on ENDLESSLY! Just when you think it's about over, you end up having another hour or so left. I still find it hard to believe that a great actor like Anthony Hopkins was in this movie. Oh well, to me this was a waste of time and money

Summary: Don't go by this review! Read it!
Review: This has been said many times before, but I will say it again. There is only one way to relate to this movie: If you have ever been truely in love. Now, I'm 14 years old, and I could relate to this movie perfectly only because many thinks have happened to me about love. (Yeah, I know what you're saying, he's only a kid. But trust me here guys, I know what I'm talking about. Also, I'm a scripty writer and I've been working on a love story. And I saw this film and could relate to it perfectly, only because I've been stung by love which I put into my script. This film gave me many new ideas.) To me, the three hour period went by fast. All performances are great! And by the way, Aliens (1986) used to be my favorite movie, up until 3 days ago when I saw this for the second time. (The first time I saw it, I hated it. But I decided to give it another chance.) This film and Aliens has a big difference. And as I conclude my summary, I know that few people are going to be reading this. But for those who do, if you've ever been in love before, and I mean in LOVE, and you're not a rap person or anything, then see this excellent film. And if you can, get it in widescreen. The cinematography is excellent!

Summary: A Powerful Love Movie
Review: I think those few people that don't like this movie probably can't relate to it. Just ask yourself if you've ever fallen in love or lost a love one. If you have experienced this, you can definitely relate to this movie. When Joe says to Susan "I love you now and I'll love you always", it will leave you breathless. This movie sends out a powerful message about love. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love, well you havn't lived a life at all. Give Love a chance! Give this movie a chance! Watch it with all your heart and you will realize how great love is.

Summary: This movie is incredible.
Review: Forget the pooh-pooh people, glance through the raves and then formulate your own opinion. It's one of those movies that you're either going to love from start to finish or hate it. If you liked "What Dreams May Come" like I do, then you'll love it.

Summary: You have to have the soul for this movie
Review: I totally relate to this movie and thought that it was the best movie ever. It was truely beautiful. Brad Pitt is an excellent actor. In order to enjoy this movie you must understand where it is coming from. It is a mixture between real life and fantasy. Excellent mix. Highly recommended for open minded people. Anthony Hopkins also acts excellently (like he usually does). His role of a father and a business man .... wow.... wish I had a father.

Summary: This offends all sensibilities
Review: I actually felt like I was coming down with the flu when I finished seeing this movie. The music swelled to unbearable levels and was painfully long though there were plenty of moments when I was sure it would come to a halt and put me out of my misery. I left unsure of whether I wanted to see another film for awhile.

Summary: Good Idea , Bad Outcome...
Review: Okay, so they made the plot interesting and different, and they produced it well, and they chose great actors for the roles, but where's the entertainment? This movie was dissapointing and way too boring to be enjoyable. This movie was PAINFULLY long. I'd suggest renting it if you really think it's something you'd like, but get ready for some major fast- forwarding.

Summary: Acting technique battles spoil movie
Review: Too long gazing into space.- For them and me.- Emotion in this movie is displayed by the two so called lovers looking left then right then briefly at each other's face to portray anything from constipation to puzzelment. Where was the chemistry? If death is all knowing why does he act like a teenage kid on his second date. Credibility was indeed missing. Brad Pitt was very inconsistent with his character analysis. I was not confident with his performace at all. Each one of his scenes he appeared not sure of what he was suposed to do - so looked left and right before proceeding, a bit like a school kid before crossing the road! I could not come to terms with his kiss of death! Should not the victim have died ! Two plastic people in a very plastic movie.

Summary: Mixed bag
Review: I'm somewhat surprised at all the glowing 5-star reviews and true passion for this movie. While I have to say that I enjoyed "Meet Joe Black", gaping plot holes (even for a fantasy) and a one-note performance by the leading lady (Forlani?) really began to wear on me.

I saw this movie twice. A two-hour version on an airplane, and recently the three-hour video. I must admit the two-hour version had a lot going for it and piqued my interest for viewing the uncut version. As it turns out, the two-hour version was less painful. It successfully delete all reference to the weak sub-plot concerning the take-over attempt of Anthony Hopkin's business by his prospective son-in-law. Not only was this long, and sometimes tedious, sub-plot unnecessary, it seemed typical Hollywood and didn't ring true (basic idea being: young man worms his way in a high-powered and very successful business as number two man, gets engaged to beautiful daughter, and all for the purpose of destroying the business, the man, and his own fiancee? As it turns out, the chairman's forced resignation only happened because of Joe Black's strange presence and Hopkins obvious distracted state of mind--which seems very contrived to me--cause and effect?). Add to that, I am now suppose to believe that this brilliant business giant (Hopkins) doesn't even check with his private physician (which he must have, being that rich) about his heart attacks? Stretched my suspension of disbelief.

What "Meet Joe Black" had going for it was the fairly serious tone of what is usually played as a 'light' comedy-fantasy (although it did have its cute and enduring moments). Anthony Hopkins (as usual) was a powerful force and I enjoyed almost all of the other performances, including Brad Pitt's. However, the leading lady's 'puppy-dog' longing (and long / silent) stares aimed at Joe Black, while charming at first, made me cringe by the end of the movie. And what is with the ending? Don't you think it odd, after finally realizing the true situation, she wouldn't walk (no, run) over the hill after her beloved father? Nope. Didn't happen. Instead, she turns and walks off with Joe, amidst the fireworks, leaving her obviously dead father to fertilize the grounds. Gee whiz, folks, happens every day;-)

Between 1 and 10, I give "Meet Joe Black" a solid 6. Honestly, I truly liked this movie. And while I think it had real potential of being a 5-star movie, there was just too much filler and fodder for me.
