Summary: A Really Classy Film
Review: This film has something that most flicks today can only dream of: class. It doesn't spoon-feed the plot to you, and it doesn't have useless dialogue crammed into every nook and cranny. Those who say this film drags should stick to children's cartoons. There is so much happening beneath the surface. Some just tune out the gaps in dialogue, and that's a real tragedy, because that's when the most happens, and the film really shines. Pitt, Hopkins, and Forlani are tremendous. Pitt's combination of power and innocence is flawless. This film is the most sophisticated to come out in a while, and the fact that the critics don't like it doesn't phase me one bit, nor does it surprise me. Meet Joe Black is a breath of fresh air: a truly elegant film.

Summary: real
Review: brad pitt is amazing. death is not an easy part to play, and yet he manages it with such ease. this movie is a tough reality and definitly not comedy, but good. anthony hopkins plays a dismayed and dying billionare, and gives death a tour of life before he leaves this world. but what happens when his daughter falls in love with this curious Joe Black... it has a happy ending, don't worry.

Summary: Great movie for everyone!
Review: I am only 14 years old and I loved this movie! I know critics have said it drags on and on, but if it weren't three hours long, how would the feelings of all the characters be expressed? My whole family watched it together, and by the end of the movie everybody was in tears. So this movie is definitely not just for adults. I recommended this movie to all of my friends, and I admit that when they watched it they did not fully understand the concept. However, if you really "feel" this movie and the magic of it all, it will become one of your favorites. In my opinion it's one of the greatest masterpieces of all time!

Summary: Move aside Titanic, here comes Joe Black!
Review: For all of those movie fans who like a really good movie. It has wit, humor, empathy and above all, does not play the Stars game. The entire cast plays a wonderful ensemble concert, even though it includes names of the caliber of Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt. Moreover it has a moving and highly entertaining storyline, perfectly and smoothly adapted for the screen. It stands out from the rest for being a product of times long past, where acting still mattered more than special effects. Martin Brest is a very skillful professional director who knows his business inside-out. My only problem with it is the rating, which at PG-13 is ridiculous viewed the fact that it is a movie about compassion, feelings and sacrifice and could easily be absorbed by even younger generations. One would wish to see more movies done like that. A Bravo to all who were involved in it.

Summary: To hang on or to let go?
Review: The film is such a perfect depiction about the hesitation to let go or to keep tight the ones we love. The god of Death has taken the guy at the coffee shop away and he is waiting to deprive the life of the father. He even wants to take Jenny with them because he thinks he has fallen in love with her. However, it's not until he realizes that Jenny loves his disguised appearance but not himself that he decides to let go. Finally, he leaves the guy at the coffee shop to Jenny. Although it is hard to tell what is going to happen to the guy and Jenny, especially after Jenny knows her father's death the next morning, one thing for sure is that they will live together with unconditional love.

Summary: Set aside any preconceived notions and have a good time
Review: Forget all you know, or think you know. Suspend you disbelief and consider the possibility. Death is an entity, an omniscient personal being who oversees the last dance in the natural order. He may seem at first a bit stiff, but what do you expect; he's used to being in complete control, without any opposition, and is totally unfamiliar with how one ought to behave in the world. He's tasting life as an infant might, struck by every minor detail that has been beneath his notice until now. Be patient, the if the initial concept doesn't catch your interest, the story that unfolds will. Honor, love, deceipt, and of course, death compel you as you watch this entrancing tale of complex characters. Your emotions are taken on a roller coaster ride and by the end of the movie you won't know if you're crying in sorrow, joy, or both.

Summary: Meet Joe Black
Review: Meet Joe Black teaches you what love and death are. What would it be like if DEATH took a holiday? This film shows you what could happen. Death falls in love while sparing a 64-year old CEO his life for a few days before his big 65th birthday. This film is an emotional roller coaster ride which keeps you hanging and wondering what will happen next. It is one of the few films that is like reading a great novel. Critics shunned this film when it was released as they did with Wizard of Oz when it was first released in 1939 and unforunately,Meet Joe Black was a box-office failure and did not get nominated for any academy awards. 1998's best picture was Shakespeare In Love which was good but not best picture worthy to me. If you like films similar to Harold and Maude or Gone With the Wind please dont count out this one. To me this film should have won best picture of 1998 and beaten Titanic with 13 awards. Brad Pit is charming. Claire Forlaine is gorgeous. Anthony Hopkins is outstanding. Rent or buy this film today. You or your friends will not be disappointed.

Summary: Meet Joe Black
Review: I loved it. It made me feel all sort of emotions. You feel sorry for Death, that he cannot stay to love. You feel sorry for the father knowing he has to leave this world. You feel sorry for Susan knowing that this event will happen, loosing both father and love of her life. You enjoy watching the bad get their just deserts. You laugh at the idea that an adult is experiancing life for the first time. There is so much to say that I cannot get it all in but to say "See it yourself, and enjoy". You will also enjoy the music.

Summary: An amazing performance
Review: Being an atheist, I have to admit I had some doubts about this film. However, I found it hypnotic and compelling primarily due to the superb direction and the quite awe-inspiring performance by Brad Pitt who seemed to draw almost untapped depths from, especially, Hopkins and Forlani. For me, Brad Pitt (who I admire anyway) gave one of the finest screen performances I have ever seen.... and I'm somewhat ancient !

I was astonished at the almost unbearablely slow pace of some scenes, especially the sequence of Death's first appearance (the duet with Hopkins and the following dinner party) : that pace should have lost audience attention and made the film collapse, quite the contrary : what tension it attained. Brilliant !

I had very little criticism until the end and was so sad that it fell into schmaltz and sentimentality. The ending surely should have been inevitable, either at the departure of Bill and Death across the bridge or, alternatively, Bill should have been discovered dead, perhaps in the house. Unfortunately, due to the ending, my credibility was lost in the last few minutes with the return of the Man in the Coffee Shop. It is the ending which prevented me from giving the film the full five stars !
