Summary: back to the mean streets
Review: after 'kundun' scorsese comes back to his elements with this freight-train of a movie. this is a perfect study in cinema of momentum, it literally moves like an unstoppable train that threatens to be derailed from its precarious tracks. but the film is checked amazingly into control in scorsese's confident hands. it was quite an experience watching a film that captures emotional nadir with such an implacable sorrow. this is a film about humanity. scorsese shows us that there are laughs to be had amidst such human tragedy, and hope lingers just around the corner.

Review: This movie seemed to confuse me from the beginning and would never let up. I was unsure if this was a drama or some sort of dark comedy. Something worth a second look at most definitely.

Review: This film was not what I was hoping it would be. the acting is great. Sizemore and Cage do an excellent job, but they are not DeNiro. But I guess I was hoping for Taxi Driver. This is worth a rent, but I don't know if you need to own it.

Review: This is an amazingly underrated movie. I am a huge scorsese fan and I can tell you this deserves to be amoung his best and for those of you who know scorsese they know that is a bold statement. An amazing movie brimming over with passion. Watch this movie, keep an open mind and just give it a chance. It is a beautiful movie.

Summary: ironic bite
Review: one of the most enjoyable Martin Scorsese movie, he has tackled mafia, drugs, and now he is doing another offbeat topic, he brings irony into the movie which you have to watch from start to finish to understand before you start asking your self what the plot is, it moves slow to get the character development solid then the plot moves and the story starts to come together, vintage Scorsese like his classic taxi driver, powerful supporting cast and wonderful camera angles and editing, and great soundtrack

Summary: I wanted to shove my head in the gas oven
Review: I feel Martin Scorses should do a remake that combines both Kundun and Bringing Out The Dead in a plotline where Nicholas Cage bores the Chinese out of Tibet with his depressed hangdog expression and lack of energy. Failing that, Tom Sizemore's character could beat the rotten old Peoples' Liberation Army up and insult them out of Lhasa. This movie really made me want to take up Paramedicine as a profession. Not.

Summary: What is going on?!?
Review: Okay...I am pleased to see all of the five star reviews of this wonderful film, yet I cannot ignore the many one star reviews found throught this page. Did these people, who claim to have found the film boring (how one can be bored with all of the incredible images, the wonderful editing, and the facinating colors, cinematography, or characters is beyond me) miss every bit of Christian symbolism in the story? How could one do this? The symbolism runs rampant throughout the entire film. These viewers certainly know that Scorsese almost became a Catholic priest, and Christian symbolism appears in every one of his films. Also, how can one view this film without being intrigued by this film's incredible character study? Do viewers these days want plot and only plot? Do they not want to think about what they viewing? Does anybody analyze cinema anymore? I would like to think so, especially when there are films like this, with so much material to be analyzed, being released by major studios. What is wrong? When a talented actor like Nicholas Cage does an art film (does this classify as an art film? I probably think so), people say he made a mistake, or was "bribbed" (see review below)? I would just like to know what is going on.Well, anyway...the film is great. If you're thinking about buying it, you should. Unfortunatly, the DVD does not include a commentary, but the film mostly speaks for itself. The acting is wonderful, the sets are wonderful, the score is wonderful, the screenplay is wonderful, the cinematography is wonderful, and, of course, the directing is outstanding (listen for Scorsese as the dispatch operator). Those of you looking for an intelligent, fast-paced film...do not miss this one.

Summary: Another Scorsese/Schrader Masterpiece
Review: C'MON PEOPLE YOU DO NOT NEED A BEGINING, MIDDLE & END TOMAKE A GOOD MOVIE!! (no matter what your English teachers say) Thismovie is a world apart from the rubbish that fills our screens, it'slike nothing you would have seen in recent years, it's fresh and inplaces very funny. The acting by all concered is top notch, specialmention I think to Ving Rhames who previous to this movie I thoughtwas a pretty wooden actor, I couldn't have been more wrong. If youwant a movie that leaves you with a warm feeling inside and thethought that America really is the place where dreams come true go andbuy a Spielberg flick as this movie is way over your head. A......fine movie!

Summary: real life
Review: Being a former paramedic myself, I became rather sentimental watching this movie... It is only slightly exaggerated, most of the times technically correct - which you can't take for granted in a movie with a medical background. But what impressed me most were the character studies: *all* these stereotypes actually exist in real life, both in patients as in paramedics. The script transports the ups and downs, good and bad places, "heroism" and trauma of the life as a paramedic. If you're in a medical profession or look for a gift for someone in such a profession, buy this film. It is a poem about paramedics.

Summary: Nicolas Cage Delivers
Review: A lot of people overlooked this movie when it came out and they really should take another look. Nicolas Cage gives a very haunting and disturbing as a burnt-out paramedic looking for a reason to quit his job. This movie is about the hurt and true terror that paramedics go through on an average day. The movie doesn't just give us drama. It intertwines some dark comedy in it as well. Mainly the people cracking the jokes are Ving Rhames and John Goodman, both playing partners to Cage. What more can I tell you? Check it out.
