Review: I saw this film when I was only seven years old.
I really don't know why I am so fond of this film,such as its music and the two great movie stars: George C. Scott and Miss York.And I think this is the best movie about this classical English novel by Charlotte Bronte.Many friends around me also love it to death.

Summary: My favorite Jane Eyre version.
Review: I saw this version of Jane Eyre in China when I was a teenager in early 80's. I had read the book by then and was overwhelmed by the great performance of George Scott and Susannah York. I felt that they played Rochester and Jane just as exactly as I imagined. The music score was great throughout and it truly expressed the spirit of the characters and the story. I have never forgot the main theme for the past twenty some years. This is one of my all time favorite films.
However, I have to say that the DVD quality is terrible. At least two scenes are missing in the DVD version. The pictures are too dark and blurred. What a pity!
But, no matter what, I still love this version of Jane Eyre.

Summary: Maybe the worst version
Review: I say "maybe" because I love this story so much I can't be too critical to any version. The actress who plays Jane is TOO OLD! She looks 40 something. George C. Scott is just a grump. It lacks feeling and inspiration. But I think its the first version I ever saw and I have always remembered the scene of Jane standing out in the rain on a chair for punishment (not in the book by the way). In my opinion, the film versions are ranked as such: #1-BBC version starring Timothy Dalton. #2- A&E version starring Ciaran Hinds and Samantha Morton. #3- 1944 version starring Orson Welles. #4- Zeffirelli version starring William Hurt. And this one being the last. There are a few very early versions, one being silent that I haven't seen. Only get this if you are a die-hard Jane Eyre fan.

Summary: Chopped and grainy DVD copy--stick to the VHS version!
Review: I was thrilled to find the George C. Scott/Susannah York version of "Jane Eyre" released on DVD. The VHS version was perfect so I expected the DVD to be just as spectacular, if not better.
I was terribly disappointed to find first that the picture quality showed it was obviously transferred from a worn film print and then horrified to find scenes actually chopped to bits!
This DVD will be going in the give-away pile, unfortunately.
In the meantime I'm hanging on to my VHS copy until someone who
knows what they're doing puts a decent copy to DVD!

Review: I watched this version of Jane Eyre in 1980 and can never forget about it since then. The main actor and actress may looker older than the charactors described in the book, but they are exactly the Rochester and Jane in my mind. Great performance by Scott.

Review: If you love the story of Jane Eyre, this version is not for you. The performances are lacking, and the screenwriter made too many changes to the plot. If you absolutely have to see it, find somewhere to rent it, but don't waste your money on a purchase. The A&E, Zeffirelli and BBC versions far outshine this film.

Review: it is interesting to note that a few commnetators holding positive views about this version of jane eyre mentioned that they first saw it in the early 1980s in china. i remember distinctly that the film was shown then for english teaching purposes by the english teaching programme of the china central t.v. the script was published in the magazine of the programme as well. it was the first version of jane eyre i watched (as a university student studying the english lang. and lit.), and indeed, none of the later versions seem to do anything to me anymore. i think it is just nostalgia.

Review: Jane Eyre was my favorite book, therefore, I have seen every movie version ever made. This one by far is the best. Between the atmosphere and the chemistry between Scott & York, this movie will stay with you. I had taped it when it first came out, since the tape no longer works, I am so glad to have a real copy now!

Review: My dad worked on the production/advertising
of this 1971 version of Jane Eyer.
Since I was a child we watched it over and over again.
The music is beautiful and George C. Scott
& Suzanna York, were fabulous in this tv version
that never got allot of recognition.
I am glad to see that [website] sells it.
I recommend this as the best ever.
