Summary: Meet the new boss!
Review: Boogie Nights has to be one of the top 3 movies of the nineties. The age old story of naive stardom gone haywire is brillantly demonstrated by P.T.Anderson, whose original dialogue, character development, and use of music made him one of the top directors today. Everything about this movie is almost shockingly good, I mean who knew Mark Wahlberg could act like this? This DVD version contains everything from the first one plus a new commentary track with Anderson talking to various members of the cast, and 5 new deleted scenes. Even if you already have the first DVD you should buy this one because this is one DVD which will definately get repeated viewings.

Review: "Boogie Nights" was an amazing film. My mom seems to think I liked it for the sex, but she's wrong... PT Anderson is a GENIUS! This movie has got it all: drama, comedy, tragedy, (a bit of) romance.... it's everything you want in a movie! I understand that the subject matter may turn many people away, but if a lot of sex doesn't bother you, you will adore this movie! A MUST SEE!

Summary: Excellent DVD!
Review: I have been a fan of Boogie Nights since the first time I saw the movie on VHS (about 3 years ago). However, this DVD surpassed my expectations. The audio and video quality of this DVD are superb, and they really do increase the general quality of the film. This version of the film comes with 2 discs: the first contains the film itself with 2 commentary tracks (one by the director, another by the actors), and the second disc contains some extra materials, including deleted scenes, actor information, and outtakes entitled the "John C. Reilly" files. Overall, the extra features add quite a bit of depth to the film. Buy this DVD, you will enjoy it!

Summary: Don't expect the girlfriend to like it
Review: "Boogie Nights" is a classic movie with several great performances and flawless direction by PT Anderson (whose "Magnolia" is still underrated-give it some time). Just a warning for you fellas in college or in your early 20s: DO NOT EXPECT MOST Y0UNG GIRLS TO LIKE THIS MOVIE! This is the ultimate guy's movie, with great characters, fancy clothes, cars, women, classic tunes and plenty of laughs thrown in for good measure, and the fact the movie revolves around the porn industry will not appeal to young women. I think most women who have experienced the 70s or just grew up and accepted a risque film will enjoy it (like my mom), but I wouldn't try and rent this for date night anytime soon. Same goes for "Magnolia", but because the movie is 3 hours and though gripping, is still a chore to watch.

Summary: i didnt like this movie
Review: but i didnt really like altmans film "nashville." and this film seems to be greatly influenced by nashville. i like other films that were influenced by nashville (the blues brothers movie, oh brother where are thou) but i didnt like boogie nights. i can tell you exactly why i didnt like this film. it wasnt really that funny. it wasnt really that clever. it wasnt really that profound. it wasnt really that realistic. and it wasnt really that entertaining. however, the song "boogie nights" was my favorite 45 i bought in the 4th grade.

Summary: In the era of big budget, another great simple film.
Review: Please don't confuse simple with poor. This film has more complexity in it's screenplay and character interaction than most films, but what I mean to say is a film that returns to the basics and gives you a good story with interesting characters.If you shy away from onscreen sex, this film should probably be avoided, but for the rest of us - a great piece of filmmaking and a flick that keeps you glued from start to finish. The part of the film about the actors and their fall from grace is a little disturbing for anyone that has lived through the drug scene and it's sometimes severe consequences, but straight honesty and drama from the director with, like I said, an excellent screenplay. The DVD version is not a disappointment. Many deleted scenes, movie commentaries by both the director and another version with the director and cast (Rather brave of the director to have the commentary shot with a drunk Mark Wahlberg.), soundtrack, etc... One part about the DVD edition is that the 2nd CD doesn't contain much at all. Almost as though the 1st CD ran out of room, but the entire collection does make up for an above average DVD version with plenty of insight into the film's making.

Review: There are so many wonderfull things to say about this DVD. The film truly marks the arrival of writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson and establishes him among the top ranks of filmmakers around the world. However let's not talk about the film, I want to tell you about the actual DVD. First of all, the audio/video transfers are amazing. The film is set in the 70's so the great video transfer has some spectacular vivid colors that bring everything to life. The soundtrack is so awesome in this movie and the audio transfer is superb. Every single track is blended perfectly into every scene. The deleted scenes are a nice addition to this package. Not only do you get to see scenes that were cut out of the movie, but you have the option to view them with a commentary track from the director himself explaining why they were cut out. However, the real reason to go out and buy this DVD is the director commentary from PT Anderson. There is another commentary track avaible including Mr. Anderson and his cast, but the truly remarkable commentary is the one with the director by himself. It's the best commentary track I've ever heard. There is not a single moment in the entire track where it gets boring. PT Anderson speaks with such love about making this movie that you forget its a director speaking and think of him as your friend. It's also highly insightfull. It's loaded with information on every scene and cast member in the film. You won't be disappointed in buying this DVD. There are even a few surprises that I'll haven't told you about and it's better for you to find them out on your own. Hint, check out the color bars. Even the DVD case itself has some great artwork on it, and inside the case there is a great review of the film. Entertainment weekly places this package among the top 10 most essential DVD's out there. Watch it and you'll see why.

Summary: One of my all time favorite movies
Review: When this movie first came out I thought it would be just another cheap, porn story. I thought it would be just another soft porn erotica movie, passed off with a R rating. I could not be any more mistaken. Boogie Nights was one of the best "Story" movies I have ever seen. The story, the pits and falls, takes you in where its impossible not to want to see the movie through the end. The basic story line concerns a young, working class teenager played by Mark Wahlberg. Working menial jobs, and dealing with his verbally abusive mother seems to be his only existance...seems however is the word. The young man is endowed with.. well.. lets just say "hidden gifts". The gifts are discovered by a accomplished adult film(nice way of saying pornographer) producer and the young man is recruited into the world of adult entertainment. Sound like a cheesy porn plot? Not in the least. In addition to young Eddie, Jack Horner(played by Burt Reynolds) has numerous other entertainers in his stable. On the surface they all seem to live the good life of party all night, and make movies all day. But the surface hardly tells the tale. They range from Rollergirl(heather graham)who like Eddie loses her innocence in the world of pornography. There is Amber Waves(played by the very talented Julian Moore) who seems the motherly figure to all, even while battling her cocaine addiction and loss of custody of her son. There is Little Bill, who works on the films, but has to go home every night to his wife sleeping around with every man she meets. The rest of the characters range from the identity conflicting porn star played by Don Cheadle to the eccentric Reed Rothchild played by John O Reilly. The first part of the movie leads the viewer through the rose colored glasses of the porn/party lifestyle. Eddie transforms from his old life, to his persona, "Dirk Diggler". As Diggler's fame grows, so does his slip from innocent, naive young man. However this is lost in the flood of the "good life". However as the middle of the movie swings around, we see Diggler make a fateful mistake. Diggler begins to slip into the pariah of drug abuse. The rest of the characters demons also begins to take hold. Amber's drug addiction continues, while Cheadle's character's attempt to "Go straight" goes south. The good times begin to wane as Horner introduces a "new boy on the street" into the group. Diggler's drug use, influenced by new "friends", sends him into a jealous frenzy that climaxes in a falling out with Horner. After falling out, Diggler takes up a series of blown career moves from Rock Star to eventually a full blown drug addict. Meanwhile Horner's attempt to stay on top of the porn world meets only with failure. The fall of the main characters takes a climax on one fateful night. Dirk, relegated to near prostitution, is viciously beaten when a few guys solicit him and then beat him up. RollerGirl's years of being exploited flares in a sudden violent outburst on a young man who insulted her. Even the normally laid back Horner explodes at the young man when he tells him his "movies suck now". The only shine of hope of the night is when Buck is witness to a robbery(a truly messed up one at that) in which he is the only one left standing.... next to enough money to finally start that business he always wanted. If Dirk could not get any lower, the final climatic scene is one of the more outstanding scenes in movie history. Dirk, Reed, and their new friend Todd come up with a plan to score some easy money. The trio decide to load up some phony cocaine, and sell it to a wealthy, but strange crack addict. The plan goes through, complete with the memorable scene of the crackhead singing "Jessie's Girl" and dancing around, while a burly bodyguard checks out the dope. As "Jessie's Girl" strains in the background, Dirk seems to go into a trance like state. In the best scene of the movie, the entire rise and fall of Dirk is recounted.. but not to the viewer. It seems to be recounted in Dirk's mind. For almost a minute the camera fixates on Diggler as he spaces out and seems to recant of how his life has turned out. You see his face smile, and wretch as he thinks of how his life has went from seventeen year old kid, to famous porn star, to drug addict, to a two bit hustler. It seems that in the midst of all the confusion, Diggler decides to get a hold back on his life. Fittingly at the end of this, Dirk seems to grip his head, as if the shame, hurt, and self pity of all that time comes to fruition. In the most logical thing he has done in months, Dirk trys to get up and leave the house, symbollically "getting his life back in order". However Todd(visibly wasted out of his gourd) will have nothing of it. In a firefight that breaks out, Todd is killed and dirk and reed bail from the house. Dirk and reed make up with Jack and the whole "group" seem to come back together. The end of the movie gives the appearance everything is all back and good. However the end shows Dirk slip right back into his former role as a porn star. Ironically Dirk's straightening out of his life, means he goes back to what had been the one thing he was good at. Porn star. The final chilling words "Im a Star"(along with a scene not good for kids) ends the movie. When watching the movie, one cannot help but draw a correlation between Dirk Diggler's character, and legendary porn star, John Holmes(who died of AIDS in 1988). Like Diggler, Holmes comes virtually from nowhere, gets involved in drugs, and even takes part in an murder from a botched drug deal. Boogie Nights has its nudity.. it has its profanity, and definatley has its scenes not for the weak at heart. However the story is what makes it the best. The story shows the rise, fall, good times, bad times, and eventual bonding of a porn "family". The movie doesn't lecture the viewer on the virtue of pornography, instead shows the porn world for its ugly face. Although I wouldn't recommend kids see it, its definatley a movie that is worth watching. It comes across as a Dateline episode, good novel, family drama, and E Hollywood True story all rolled into one. The acting is outstanding from top to bottom. Even Burt Reynolds seems to resurge his career and Mark Wahlberg is outstanding as the trouble Diggler. Julianne Moore was good as usual, and John O Reilly/Don Cheadle make great strides with their roles. The "Long way down" scene alone is worth the cost of the movie(the botched drug deal). That scene is truly crazy. Take away the porn storyline, and the movie would be considered one of the classics.. more so then it already is.

Summary: Overrated, Overdone, Overacted and Over the top...
Review: Boogie Nights is a fair movie, but not nearly as constrained and interesting as Anderson's best film -- Hard Eight. Burt Reynolds leads the cast. He is exceptional, I will admit. Many of PT Anderson's usual cast are around -- and most are decent in their roles. The story is tiresome, and the idea that "porn stars are people, too" or that "good people do bad things" -- is constantly crammed down our necks. It is neither subtle or restrained, but self-absorbed. I will say this, it is not as self-absorbed as Anderson's atrocious "Magnolia." See Boogie Nights if you are a film fan - miss it if you are prudish. There were some great moments, but the movie is ultimately bogged down by its vastness. See Hard Eight. See Boogie Nights. Skip Magnolia.

Summary: hate or love it, in my case hate it.
Review: they say that you hate this dvd or you love it and in my case, i found out that i hated it. Boring throughout the film although i do want to say that the acting is good. it's just that it is not very interesting!
