Summary: Amazing
Review: I have seen this film probably about ten times now, and never get sick of it. It is full of comedy, darkness and deep scenes.

The story centers around a young, idiotic, but sensitive and friendly kid, Eddie, who is discovered in a resturaunt kitchen -- well, at least his "talent" is, anyway. Once he makes the cut with Jack Horner (played by Burt Reynolds, who delivers a great performance) and his film-making crew, he becomes a hot porn personality, under the pseudonym DIRK DIGGLER. Dirk rises up to stardom, only to have everything destroyed by drugs. This film, based (loosely) upon the rise and fall of John "Johnny Wadd" Holmes, focuses on drugs destroying the life and innocence of a soft-hearted kid, and his sad struggle to overcome it.

Even the slow parts in this film are interesting. But don't get me wrong, "BOOGIE NIGHTS" is almost never uplifting, and it shouldn't be. It is depressing at times, and shows you the harsh reality of drugs -- it aint cool, and it definately aint fun....which the main characters soon discover as the 70's become the 80's...but don't have the luxury of choosing to end their addictions. In fact, if I didn't know any better, I'd say this is a statement on drugs and the porn industry.

Let's not forget the acting...which was superb. Mark Wahlberg is most impressive, as is the rest of the cast. They are flawless. And you really feel for and like the characters.

This isn't just an intense and rediculously wild piece of filmaking (like Pulp Fiction) -- it is a dark look at a way of life.

You won't be sorry you bought it.

Summary: You will never see a better movie.
Review: I was blown away by this movie. It is by far the deepest, darkest, and most up-and-down flick you will EVER watch. Paul Thomas Anderson brings so damn much emotion to this one, going from glamour (Eddie/Dirk is the world's greatest porno king) to disaster (Dirk, Reed, and Todd are chased by a druggie for trying to rip him off) to total shock (Buck in the film's most violent event). The film's turning point, a 1980 New Year's Day suicide, gives us a final glimpse of Dirk and the industry before drugs and videotape run their courses. Anderson's character explorations are amazing, showing the anger of Jack Horner and the changes that Dirk goes through, the maternal instincts of Amber Waves, and the airheadedness of Rollergirl, before whose beauty and capital knockers all men bow. Reynolds and Wahlberg have and will never be more amazing, Julianne Moore is unforgettable, and Heather Graham is just WOW!!!!! John C. Reilly is great as Reed. SEE THIS MOVIEEEEEEEE.....

Summary: a movie that grows and grows on you
Review: This movie gets better and better every time you watch it. For the 18-30 demographic, the movie is funny and witty. It also provides insightful social commentary into a period in American history the many of us wish we were there to experience.

Summary: 0K EXCEPT FOR COMMENTS ON THE DVD
Review: If you've ever seen porno films, this is an excellent take off on them. Very convincing with their cheap production values and bad "acting."

Julian Moore still the show with her portrayal, of a porno queen who seems like she is really having an orgasm while participating in one of the films being made.

Burt Reynulds far redeems himself for "Smokey and the Bandit," and other films of that films of that ilk.

The foul mouthed language in the DVD director's comments may have been appopriate in the film, but seem out of place in the movie.

Summary: move over tarantino--paul thomas anderson is here
Review: what a terrific film. beautifully scripted, acted, and directed, this is easily one of the best films released in the last 10 years. mark wahlburg really justifies his career move to the acting profession. 6 months before the films theatrical release, premiere magazine had a very few lines describing the film. i must admit, not knowing anything about this film i laughed at the idea. however once it was released i was singing a much different tune. heather graham, and julianne moore are supurb. check out andersons first outing, hard eight

Summary: Great movie with great performance by Julianne Moore!
Review: Boogie Nights is easily one of the best films of the decade. It is beautifuly directed and superbly acted. The best performance is easily Julianne Moore's sleepy-eyed porn queen. Her performance is tender and caring. She should have definatly won the Oscar. Burt Reynolds and Heather Graham also hold their own in the film. When i first wanted to see this film (i'm 15) my parents wouldn't let me. They thought the subject matter was too graphic. Instead of just focusing on the sex in the movie, i focused on the characters and the direction. A GREAT FILM FOR MATURE TEENS AND ADULTS!

Summary: The Movie with a HOT Star
Review: When I rented this movie, I was about 15, and I was watching it with 2 14 year olds. The only reason we rented it was because it had Mark Wahlberg in it, and by the way, he looked hot throughout the movie. But, as we finished the movie, we realized it was a well done one and it was not boring at all. We got to see what fame does to someone, which was Dirk Diggler, and how different it is from regular life. It's movie I could watch time and time again, even though I am 16.

Summary: a fun movie until near the end
Review: For all except the last 10-15 minutes, this is a great movie. It has gratuitous sex scenes (hey, it's about the porn industry, right?), great characters (the stereo guy is hilarious,) and a fun story. However the downfall of Dirk Diggler took the violent turn in a senseless way (the humiliating scene in the truck was very good compared to what followed.) There are a bunch of goodies included with the DVD (director's commentary on the movie and a rock song, etc.)

Summary: A audacious masterpiece...
Review: I was in the videostore after seeing this movie was out. I thought my videostore didn't order a copy of it, but it did. I picked it up and went to the counter. The lady asked if I had a parent with me, I was 15. My mom was with me, and she told my mom that it had some adult material in it, but it was a really good movie. I went home and watched it and MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHALATION.

This was the better of the two. Some people call it overrated, but it wasn't. Critics were right. It is a good movie. Every critic loved. I loved it, even though my mom and dad thought of it as just a porno flick. I was able to see what it was really about... The life of a porno star in the 70s and 80s. I think that if Robin Williams wasn't nominated for best supporting actor at the oscars, then Burt Reynolds would have got it. Him and Julianne Moore gave two EXCELLENT PERFORMANCES. I thought that Mark Whalberg (Dirk Diggler) should have been nominated for best actor, but he wasn't. I think it should have been nominated for best picture too, instead of The Full Monty.
