Rating: Summary: A weak movie and an unfitting tribute a wonderful moment. Review: Kurt Russel delivers a pretty believable performace, but that is the only good thing that can be said about the film. The rest of the cast and the director fail to create much of an emotional buildup for what should be a tremendous emotional movie. Yes they picked the guys that can play hockey and were able to get nice shots that they would not be able to get with stunt doubles. But that was at a huge cost to acting ability. And they choregraphed some nice plays, but in the end the whole thing plays a lot more like a documentary than a dramma. Thats aside from the cheap and weak attempts to villify the soviet team. And that is why this film is a failure. It does not go beyond what you can get from any of the documentaries on the Miracle. Do not waste your money. Wait for it to hit cable and you will be satisfied with a sigle viewing of this mediocrity. No reason to add it to your video library.
Rating: Summary: A great family film Review: Miracle is a great movie. The opening credits establish the mood of the country going in the 1979 by showing clips of the oil crisis, Viet Nam, the Iran Hostage affair and all of the other things happening in the 1970s. This opening helps the younger viewer realize that the story you are about to see was not only a miracle, but something the country really needed.Kurt Russell is great as Minnesotan Herb Brooks. He's a tough coach who does in his own way with hockey players of his choosing. All of the players do a superb job on and off the ice. None of the kids are well known actors, but they might be someday. The development of the team chemistry is fun to watch. The hockey games are fun to watch. This movie has a lot of hockey even before the memorable match with the Soviets. This takes away some of the dramatic effect since there is only so many ways you can portray exciting hockey. I enjoyed this movie because it is a flag-waving patriotic movie. It doesn't try to be, but by just telling the story as it was, it is an inspring film about a great team and its great coach.
Rating: Summary: Good job by Disney & Kurt Russell. Review: I saw the HBO documentary about what led up to the preparation of the 1980 games for the American team & they certainly 'cleaned up' some of the dialouge, but all in all I though they did a good job with the movie. And as far as "Chris from Paris France" is concerned, seeing as the movie was based on a true story ABOUT the underdog American team beating the overpowering Russians, it's kind of a giveaway that the Americans win. *shaking head*
Rating: Summary: Total American Crap. Review: This movie ignores all the other teams that played in the olympics and focuses only on America. Which I suppose we should except from America. Second this film ingores all the corruption that even allowed the Americans to win the game. Stupid over glorified movie not worth watching. The Soviets are the true winners of that game not the Americans. This movie is full of lies. I find it funny how in American movies America always wins. Americans stop being sheep.
Rating: Summary: Miracle Scores A Winner Review: Miracle is an inspirational story told without too much Disney fluff, thanks in large part to director Gavin O'Connor. His attention to detail is fantastic. Casting was dead on for this one too. As a Chicago Blackhawks fan, I'd followed the budding career of defenseman, Jack O'Callahan (Michael Mantenuto) who was property of the Hawks at the time. I can honestly say all the actors looked like their real life counterparts, especially the players & coaches of the USA & USSR teams. Hockey plays were re-enacted with incredible precision. After I got done watching it, 1980 didn't seem that long ago. In addition, Miracle offers some of the most dynamic cinematography for a sports movie since Seabiscuit last year. The editing is some of the best I'd ever seen for any movie. It baffles the mind how much film they had to go through to make to this movie with all the multiple camera angles employed. To fully appreciate this endeavor, I would recommend watching the making-of documentary. Also try to listen to the Herb Brooks interview. I say listen because it's shot with a very unsteady handheld camera. I couldn't bear to watch it & quickly turned off the video. What no tripod available? But I digress beacuse that was the only problem I had with this dvds' production. The roundtable discussion was a nice touch. In conclusion, I strongly recommend Miracle to the curious or casual fan alike. For the hockey fanatic, it's probably the best movie depiction of the actual speed of the game... I believe!
Rating: Summary: The Best Movie In The World Review: This movie was the best one I had ever seen! I saw it twice and theaters, and when i bought it one day i watched it twice. Kurt Russell and all of the actors did a wonderful job and it will be around for a long time- it's about the greatest moment in sports' history!
Rating: Summary: The best movie and DVD ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: In the movie, Kurt Russell does an amazing job portraying Heb Brooks. My dad is a hockey coach and knew Herb and he says Kurt is just like Herb when you watch him on screen. Another great thing about this movie is the way director Gavin O'Connor chose hockey players to play the role of the team. They do an excellent job of recreating this memorable moment and acting at the same time. The DVD is loaded with great bonus features like outtakes, a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of the movie, and a short fearture about the journey of the hockey players to become actors. My favorite feature though would have to be the talk that Russell and the filmmakers had with Herbbie himself. This gives you a behind-the-look into the personality of the man who inspired the movie. You learn his ways of motivating his players and get to see how much Russell and him are alike. This is a great DVD that I loved and I think you will too!!!!
Rating: Summary: I remember; I believed Review: In 1980, I was living in Washington, DC. I had graduated from the University of Wisconsin, which back then was only known sports-wise as a hockey school, two years before. I remember seeing Mark Johnson practice on the ice at Camp Randall, and I knew that Bobby Souter was "the enforcer." This film, MIRACLE, brought it ALL back. In 1980, I remember watching ALL of those games lying on my bed in something like the fetal position because the stress was so overwhelming --- eventhough Walter Cronkite had announced the outcomes--victories-- during his news broadcast before the games were shown on television. As I watched, I always was afraid that Walter had made a mistake. Those final seconds for all the games were too much. I must have aged years in those seconds. When Al Michaels said those historic words, "Do you believe in miracles?" I remember screaming to the television screen, "YES, I DO." I got to do that over and over again tonight as I watched the film, . . and then watched the final scene over again. There are at least a few times in the 20th century when I know without a doubt that feeling of great pride that we all could have in saying that "Yes, I AM an American." I think that when our troops liberated Paris must have been one of those times. Lake Placid was another. I wish I could have been there both times. Seeing this film is as close as any of us --except for those members of the team who were, of course, there -- get to have that feeling even if it's only fleeting. I'm buying the DVD, though, just so that I can feel it again and again.
Rating: Summary: "The Mystery of the Miraculous" Lake Placid, 1980 Review: There are living witnesses out there to this event in the Winter Olympics of 1980. I am one of them. I shall not describe the film but attempt to make you understand the scope of this success. It was as if you and I were just regular high school types who played football and were perhaps minor stars in college and we decided to put a team together to challenge the Super Bowl champions and end up beating them 21 to 14. When you see team USA line up against the Russians in this film, look at the faces of our team versus the Russians and you will realize what I mean. Time is spent showing you the background to producing the final team product and how a coach operates. It is a good film and does not romanticize the game. You also will come to understand that Jim Craig blocked a LOT of shots to hold off the Russian juggernaut and keep them from tying the game in the late stages of the hockey miracle. It is inspiring, interesting and well worth a view. A story, when reporting a real life event and struggle is greater than any fiction!
Rating: Summary: Very Well Done Review: This is a movie that accurately portrays an event I remember very well. When the 1980 USA hockey team played, I watched...I don't even think I blinked while watching any of their games. Miracle is a great film. It is a tribute to everyone who has attempted to do the impossible, an awesome adventure in human achievement, and a fun film the whole family can enjoy. This is one of those MUST-SEE films. Buy it; it is worth every penny!
