Summary: Great Movie!!!
Review: I have been looking forward to The Butterfly Effect now for about 2 months and out of all the movies I have axiously awaited this is one of the few that haven't disappointed me. Ashton Kutcher is a surprisingly very good actor in this movie. I was hooked into this movie by the first couple minutes and I never took my eyes off the screen until the last credit was rolled up. In my opinion this movie was very well directed and beautifully written. A+

Summary: AWESOME
Review: This movie is really strong. Being through alot in my life personally, this movie is one of those movies you take really seriously. It has its funny little area's in it but nothing too funny to mess up the mood. It shows life. Personally the way everything was described, I think the write & director went through some of the same stuff in their lives (all the things happening as a kid). I'm not gonna give anything away, but letting you know that if you have been through alot of tramatizing stuff in your childhood, be noted when you watch this that it very well could bring back some memories that you didn't want brought back. It did for me. I almost had to walk out of the movie because of it. But it was an AWESOME movie.BTW: If you think its a horror movie, your wrong. Don't go thinking that its horror.

Summary: Mesmerizing
Review: This movie is incredible. Anyone who tells you otherwise is simply one of those people who watch stupid movies with cheesy plots, bodily fluid jokes, and explosions. This movie is amazing. Ashton Kutcher, in perhaps his first serious role, shines. The movie takes you back in time, and forward, and back again. Don't blink: you just might miss a plot twist. Despite what the title may tell you, this is not a horror film at all. It is somewhere along the lines of a cross between Memento and David Lynch's Lost Highway. A simply fantastic movie, and 2004's first must-see.

Summary: Exhilarating!
Review: I was lucky enough to view this movie at the Sundance Film Festival where several people screamed out loud at the first scary scene. The film is filled with intense moments, and some that are quite shocking. Overall it was an enjoyable and thought provoking movie that makes you realize that changing the past is not what it's cracked up to be.

Summary: The Chaos Theory Gone Chaotic
Review: In a room full of excited college students, the film began. An awesome screenshot, proudly displaying a quote from the chaos theory graces the screen as a small blue butterlfy appears and flies away. Kutcher appears, panting, disheveled. Dimly lighted with a tint of royal, the scene takes off in a fury with the beginnings of the wonderful soundtrack that the film proudly displays. But it is downhill from there... And don't be fooled - the trailer is decieving. While I still maintain that the music saved the film (trust me, it was AMAZING), I almost felt like leaving. Not only were some of the most serious parts of the film laughable (and trust me, the room was laughing), but some parts were just darn lame. The dialogue was badly written, even if the script itself had potential. And that is the story of this film, uncarried out potential. The Chaos Theory and the Butterfly Effect (within the Chaos theory), which both state the if you change one thing, it changes everything, are both ambiguous and hardly discussable topics. It is no wonder that the film leaves the viewer with a yearning for something more. I have a severe problem with a previous reviewer's comparison to Memento and the Sixth Sense. If you have seen and liked Memento (one of the best films ever made, in my opinion), you will probably find the idea of The Butterfly Effect to be, at least, interesting. BUT, the two films are not even comparable. The Sixth Sense is also one of my favorite films. However, both Memento and The Sixth Sense have resolute, yet wonderfully ambiguous endings that will make you cringe and smile at the same time. The Butterfly Effect fails at this in all respects. It gets to the point where the viewer wonders how any ending could possibly save this movie. And the ending is as blase as one would think. Now, I'm not saying that the film was horrible - it was just bad. The acting is mediocre (despite a few horrendous miscasts, including Kutcher's character's mother), and the characters that you feel the closest to are not even main characters. While I almost cried for Kailey's (Amy Smart) brother, I did not once feel compassion for Ashton Kutcher. But the idea was so wonderful! If you are intrigued by the premise, give this film a shot. Maybe it has something going for that I am just completely missing. However, don't expect too much. It's nothing more than a step in the right direction for Ashton Kutcher and nothing less than a somewhat intriguing B movie. Just have fun and take it for what it is.

Summary: A total mind blower.
Review: I saw a screening of this movie and as much as I expected to be non-plussed at best, it was amazing. Like a cross between Memento and a dark It's A Wonderful Life, the movie plays with time, reality, and the greatest "What if?" that there's ever been. Ashton Kutcher plays Evan, a college student who can relive gnarly past events and in doing so, change the present. The outcome is always a surprising set of consequences. I don't want to say too much about the movie because I sincerely believe this is one of those few movies where you shouldn't know too much. While a number of movies have played with time travel (Terminator, Back to the Future, Etc...) this one does it with a gritty slickness that is truly different and very unpredictable. People will definately be surprised at Kutcher's performance and this movie is an inarguable breakthrough for him as a dramatic actor. Amy Smart shows her dramatic chops as well, after doing comedic roles in Rat Race and Road Trip. It's kind of a dream role, in that she gets to play four characters in one movie, each one multi-dimensional and vastly diverse from the previous ones. I read that Eldon Henson, dropped and gained 30 pounds for his various roles as well. I think it demonstrates the dedication that the actors put into the project and it certainly pays off on screen. It's an incredibly thought provoking concept with all these cool set ups and payoffs along the way. I was surprised by how violent it was at times, but it worked for the story and I'm not turned off by that kinda thing. By far one of the best movies I've seen this year and deserves some sort of critical acclaim even though it comes out at a time of year when movies are for the most part forgotten. See this movie and you'll get your money's worth. I'm probably going to have to see it again because, like films like The Sixth Sense, it should be even cooler the second time around when you know the secrets.

Summary: the butterfly effect
Review: I had the opportunity to see "The Butterfly Effect", and this could well be the movie that will take Kutcher to a new level in acting. The plot was complicated, spanning a lifetime. It is based on the theory that the flutter of a butterfly's wings can result in a tsunami on the other side of the world and someones's birth can have the same ripple effect. Thru' time travel Kutcher replays his life over and over again until he rights the negative effects of his birth. I would be interested to know what ending they used for the movie, as I viewed the director's cut. I was told that the movie slated for release has a different ending. I HOPE NOT!! The ending I saw tied the whole plot together and made for a very good story. Didn't get up to pee once!!

Review: The Butterfly Effect had an amazing affect on me. The subject of the movie, the Chaos Theory, is something that a lot of people wonder about without being able to express their thoughts clearly. This movie clearly expresses the effect of the Chaos Theory with an intense plot. After leaving this movie everyone I know left the theater in a state of shock. I cried for hours on end, just because that is how emotional this move made me feel. It took my sense of reality and question what I thought I knew was real. All of the actors deliver strong performances through the different situations. This is a MUST SEE.

Review: This DVD is incredible. I really mean that.
If you saw the movie in theaters and liked it, or even if you didn't, you should get this DVD.
The director's cut version of the movie has an alternate and much 'darker' ending to it. It takes the movie one step further than the theatrical version did and really proves that THIS is the one true resolution to the problems Evan has caused. You will never look at the movie the same way.
In addition, it has tons of bonus infinifilm features; including deleted scenes, directors commentary, documentaries and much more. It's definitely worth the money to truly experience this great film.
While you're at it; check out the book. It's almost exactly like the movie (since the book was taken directly from the script), but it fills in a lot of holes and questions you may have about the story.
And don't listen to the biased reviewers. I don't particularly care for Ashton Kutcher either, but I still feel he gave a strong performance as a serious character. Even if he didn't, the story is so entertaining that it wouldn't matter! So ignore them.
Just get the DVD already! :-)
