Summary: Brilliant!
Review: The perfect 'T&A' movie! The movie America deserved, not desired. After twenty minutes, the nudity and sexuality is rendered banal, and the film is a stylized interpretation of America's obsession with sex and a metaphor for women's self-degradation while harnessing sexual 'power'. Nomi is a victim who sees herself as a survivor while the men in charge absent-mindedly exploit her and then dump her at will. You have to be incredibly insensitive to find this movie exclusively erotic and not disturbing. Bad acting? Yep. Gratuitous violence? Yep. Did Berkley realize what she was getting into? Probably not. Still, worth seeing along with "Starship Troopers," Verhoven's masterpiece of war culture. Seen together, the brilliance of 'Showgirls' shines through.

Summary: IN A CLASS OF IT'S OWN.....
Review: I must have 10 other reviews about this movie, so let this be my 11th!

I've been reading the other customer's reviews about Showgirls, and some just don't make sense! One person said that Showgirls received an NC-17 Rating, which was an automatic death for any film! Well, let me tell you something, Paul Verhoeven, the director of Showgirls, meant for this to be an NC-17 Rated movie. He didn't try to hide anything, and he did a successful job of putting the truth about Las Vegas Showgirls out there to the public.

If this movie was released in an R-Rated format to theaters, then it wouldn't of had the effect that Paul wanted it to. If it was released this way, everyone would complain that it wasn't realistic enough.

If these reviewers are going to complain about this NC-17 film, maybe they are too immature to be watching a movie with this kind of content.

Maybe if the MPAA Rating Board would just realize that this is a true life movie, and it was meant to be filmed this way, Showgirls would have gotten the highest reviews, like it deserved!

And don't even start ridiculing Elizabeth Berkley's acting, because she played Nomi, a girl that lived a hard life, and didn't always show proper manners. I know that Elizabeth played Nomi exactly as Paul wanted her to.

This movie captures the heart of Las Vegas, I can't wait to visit Las Vegas myself just to stand back in awe of all the sights that were in Showgirls.

Watch this movie, enjoy.

Leave your inhibitions at the door..... the show is about to begin.

Summary: judge not lest ye may not ever make it to Vegas
Review: I remember seeing this film for the first time in the theater, and the quiet, satisfied sighs and coos being emitted from the men of the theater during the "goodbye kiss" scene.

This movie shows the outstanding post-mafia growth of Las Vegas into a shopping/eating empire that still manages to maintain its sexual mysticism and 24 hour access to anything.

If you are at all intrigued by Las Vegas, you'll love this overblown erotic fairytale.

Summary: A visual Heimlich maneuver
Review: ... only someone emerging from total isolation in a cave somewhere, and then being shown "Showgirls" as the first movie they had ever seen in their life, would even consider recommending it to someone else (and even then it'd be a stretch). Synopsis? Let's see - horrible acting, terrible and uninteresting plot, unsympathetic characters. In short, the WORST MOVIE EVER MADE. It's a shame Amazon won't let me give this a ZERO STAR RATING because even that is more than it deserves.

Summary: Trash Supreme
Review: Besides a rape scene that's no one's idea of entertainment, SHOWGIRLS is without doubt the best unintentionally funny movie in decades - even surpassing that old standby, VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. With one stunning howler line after another, Verhoeven's absurdly over-eager camera work, Gina Gershon's portenteous Southern dialect, the movie is all but topped (crowned?) by the talent-free Elizabeth Berkeley, who's nearly insane performance can only be blamed...on her. It's really like nothing you've ever seen before.

One of the few camp-trash classics that's riveting from beginning to end - not unlike "Carrie, The Musical," if case you were lucky enough to see it - SHOWGIRLS is destined to be a gay-boy pajama party must-see for years to come.

Summary: Sure It's Bad! That's Why I Love It!
Review: Showgirls is bad. But why? Is the plot really bad? No. What's bad is Elizabeth Berkeley's acting. It's terrible. Absolutely awful. But I was able to overlook that and see that Showgirls is one of my favorite movies. Everyone else's acting was fine. Especially Gina Gershon. I love love love her! She was the best thing in Showgirls. Her bitchiness mixed with that Texan accent was just genius. The dancing was fabulous, the costumes were great. Sure there was lots of T & A, but what movie nowadays doesn't have that? In my opinion, the script was pretty good. There are obviously some things I would change but all in all it was good. I think the main reason people are so eager to say awful things about this movie is because it's easier for them to hate it rather than admit they actually like it. It isn't the worst movie ever made. Simple as that. I will admit it is bad. It is. If they'd gotten someone else to play Elizabeth Berkeley's part, it probably would've been better. But I am happy with the way it is. There's a lot more to Showgirls than people want to admit. It's a guilty pleasure. It's one of those movies that cheers me up. It has great music and dancing. The producers and directors, I'm sure, didn't expect Showgirls to be some great movie of all time. And anyway, these days it's good to be bad. More power to the people behind Showgirls.

Summary: THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE.
Review: Oh, all right, you know what I mean. How does one rate a film? What expectations does one have for a good time? How interesting is it? I couldn't take my eyes off Showgirls. I sat mesmerized and will do so again thanks to this wonderful DVD. What a film! Words do not do justice to this. One must experience Showgirls themselves to really get it. There is no more guilty pleasure then watching a funny film that was intended to be serious. This is such a film. Joe Esterhous (spelling)? Really, really believes, as does the director and star, that this is some sort of Citizen Cane. This heart attack seriousness is carried throughout the film without a hitch, it's hilarious. I will not even attempt to say what is the funniest part, it is all such a hoot. Elisabeth Barclay fails to understand that one must have some sort of talent to act, something that makes one believable, that you cannot make up for this lake of talent by working real hard. Imagine, if you will, someone with no singing voice singing. Loudly. When it is observed that this person cannot sing, they rectify this situation by singing louder, harder and more often. It does not work now does it? Elisabeth Barkley digs in her little heals and "acts" as hard as she can. Attempting to make up for her total lake of talent by stomping around and glaring at the camera and spinning on her heals and stomping away (this shot is done at least 5 times) throwing food around, well you get it. Never mind that this is totally inappropriate behavior for the scenes which seam to have been made with no though whatsoever for what has transpired before. Every take Barkley just starts all over again stomping, spinning, shouting and being just delightfully awful. I loved it. One need only watch any episode of Saved By the Bell to see this. "Jesse" (Barclays character in the show) simply smiles and reads her lines. No doubt she got up real early. I believe she was a good worker. I would hire Elizabeth Barkley to work in a heart beat. Just not act. Does throwing paint around on a canvas make one painter? What if they threw it harder? What if they "painted as hard as they could" It does not work. I'm sorry. I really am There is a new contender in the "good bad movie" genre...check out the "Skulls" for more unintentional laughter. One bad thing about "Showgirls" there is an unnecessary, violent rape scene in it that may ruin the fun for some of us, just skip that part. Enjoy....darlin.'

With all of the elaborate dance numbers and lights, you'll just keep playing the dances over and over again! This movie is, I think, the best movie ever made!

Summary: A fearless movie is made at long last!
Review: Everyone is quick to pounce upon Showgirls for being poorly acted and campy...but I say, raise your glasses to both Paul Verhoeven, for being a fearless director, unlike most of the spineless cowards in the industry today...And Joe Eszterhas, in my opinion, you deserve an Oscar, sir for being so bold as to write a story about a lap dancer! My God, look at the current remake of "Shaft" The producers/director were afraid of nudity and scenes of sexuality? Cmon now, this is "Shaft" not Walt Disney's Bambi! Are they afraid to ruin the virgin eyes/ears of film fans? What in the devil's name is going on here? This is an "R" rated film for goodness sakes! No such fear in Showgirls...Elizabeth Berkley plays "Nomi" to the hilt, without apology, or underwear for that matter, as she bares all, and we dont just mean her soul. The scene at the pool is worth the price of the DVD, and Kudos to Miss Berkley for showing the world how a sex scene should be shot! Did anyone waste their time on "Entrapment"? Catherine Zeta Jones, hiding in shadows, as if she needs to not be scene nude in order to preserve her pureness? A sex scene that could have been shot on the set of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood....madness I say....if entrapment had half the intestinal fortitude of "Showgirls" I guarantee that the box office, and DVD/video sales would have tripled! We see all the flash of Vegas, from the seedy "Cheetas" strip scenes to backstage at a broadway like musical. Berkley is brilliant, and plays Nomi without apology. Zeta-Jones should take a cue, and fear her body and sexuality less. A movie without inhibition, incredibly sexy/sensual, and an interesting little story about a girl who claws her way, and sleeps her way to the top...how unHollywood-like!

Summary: Captures the real life of a Las Vegas Showgirl.
Review: I recently purchased this movie on DVD because I am a big fan of Elizabeth Berkley and watched her as she grew up on Saved By The Bell. I thought this movie was outstanding and brilliant in every way! It is beautifully shot, and the special features on this edition are neat too. The picture is great and hi-tech, and the sound is great when you have digital surround sound.

This movie is about a girl, Nomi, who is running away from a troubled past. She flees to Las Vegas in hopes of making it big as a Las Vegas Showgirl. Gina Ravera, known as Molly, takes Nomi, Elizabeth Berkley, in off the streets. To survive, Nomi works at a seedy strip club, The Cheetah. As she attends Molly's work, she realizes how wonderful it would be to be in the show, Goddess. She auditions and gets into the show. Then, a rivalry develops between the star Cristal Conners, Gina Gershon, and Nomi, and Nomi ends up hurting Cristal in roder to be the star off the show. After sleeping with the entertainment director, she ends up as the star of Goddess. All goes well, until Nomi realizes that she has hurt everyone along the way of making it big. She also realizes that Las Vegas would have probably been better if she never hitched a ride to that city. She makes a couple paybacks, and travels home with some gained knowledge of Las Vegas Showgirls.

All and all, this movie looked beautiful, and kept me wanting more. Buy this movie today, you'll never regret it.
