Summary: The Best Movie I've Ever Seen
Review: One Friday night I stayed home and watched a movie my father had rented days before. When I put this movie in, I had no idea what it would be about. No Looking Back was by far the best movie I have ever seen. Claudia deals with emotions I have dealt with for the past year or so. I think the reason I liked this movie so much is because all the characters (and the story line) are very realistic. It is really difficult in life to figure out what you truly want to do. Claudia shows how tempting certain situations can be, and the heartache that can happen as a consequence. I have/do recommend this movie to anyone who has ever had trouble making a decision. It definitely left me feeling motivated to do something more with my life. I also loved the soundtrack! The movie as a whole made me laugh, cry, and feel like there are other people out there that feel the way I do. I watched this movie 6 times during our 5 day rental period!!

Summary: Movie gets 8, Soundtrack gets 10!
Review: So I'm surfin' one night and I catch Lauren Holly & Edward Burns in the kitchen scene. I probably would have watched it all the way through with no Soundtrack, but I'll think about it a long while BECAUSE of the Soundtrack. Get it out on CD NOW PEOPLE!

Summary: No Looking Back...
Review: The dialogue and character interaction in this film is great!! Burns is such an excellent writer and his actors all play together beautifully! Jon Bon Jovi rocks in this film and proves he's a great actor!

Summary: Ed Burns captures the female psyche
Review: This is one of the most fantastic films ever made. Ed Burns grasps the way a lot of females view their worlds. He clearly and eloquently writes this story through the female perspective---leaving the viewer stunned by his realism. Ignore what the misguided critics say---this movie was well cast, directed and carried out. He is a god.

Summary: This appealing movie lingers with you.
Review: This movie had a lot going for it. Good actors and a catchy soundtrack. It realistically captured the blue-collar existence of its characters. I believe the phrase "lives of quiet desperation" might be appropriate.

But, I wanted more. I kept comparing this film to the Piano, a classic love triangle film, which also effectively incorporates music. No Looking Back could have been a modern-day version of the Piano, except that it lacks the same passion. There was no development in terms of sexual tension. By this I mean, there's a great scene of Burns kissing Holly in the kitchen, then some dialogue scenes, then they go to a motel. Duh! The director missed a prime opportunity to build up heightened emotions and fire in the interim.

Even the simplistic movie Dirty Dancing had more passion to it (and I'm sure, made more $$)

The theme of No Looking Back was the importance of self-actualization. But for a love story, it lacked sizzle. Woman viewers want sizzle, ever hear of the English Patient?

Burns has a lot of potential both as an actor and a director, and I definitely plan on viewing all of his future movies. But he needs to take more of a risk in terms of exposing his character to raw emotions.

Summary: No Looking Back -- Captivating
Review: This movie is captivating. I'm sorry that this point of view is lost on the professional reviewer, and anyone else unable to enjoy it as such. For me it is utterly memorable. It appears to have been made not just carefully, but with loving attention to detail. I've seen it twice and look forward to watching it again. RELEASE THE SOUNDTRACK -- PLEASE!

Summary: But Where's The Soundtrack
Review: This movie is classic Ed Burns noir and hits home for anyone who has ever grown up in a small or nowhere town. Where is the awesome soundtrack to this very good flick? Come on are you kidding me.

Summary: Burns has really arrived (as a filmaker) with this one
Review: What I liked most about this film is that it very accurately portrays the small mindedness that is too prevalent in much of our society today. Of particular note are the local bar scenes and the dialogue that occurs there. Those scenes really underscore the fear of change and progression that are keeping us from collectively becoming a more enlightened, inclusive, and productive nation.

Along the way we are privy to watch the characters motivations, hopes, perceptions, virtues, and limitations unfold. And they are a pleasure to watch. I thought all the actors were outstanding and that they really brought small town reality to life.

Although I would not laud the beautiful Miss Holly as a great actress, she has pretty consistently chosen to appear in particularly relevant material and managed to give life to her characters. Nonetheless she delivers a very believable performance as a small town girl with big dreams who has settled for a safe albeit unsatisfying existence.

Burns, as always is comic, charming, and immature. On the surface that is. But in some of his orations he displays a wisdom and logic that is undeniable. It's a compelling mix. But most noteworthy however are that his skills as a director have grown leaps and bounds with this picture (in my opinion). And that's not to say that I disliked any of his previous films. Quite the contrary.

His use of lighting. His pacing. The stills and the motion shots. Bravo.

In short, it's got a little of everything. Drama, comedy, some great music and perhaps most importantly this film really makes you feel for the characters and it makes you think about your own life.

Highly recommended.
