Summary: Standing By It
Review: Rob Reiner gave the world a great gift in 1986, in celluloid, a little film that shook the world called "Stand By Me". Sixteen years later, the single thought that comes to mind in watching this movie is how absolutely timeless this movie is. Which is surprising, considering how important the late 1950's is crucial to the movie.

The plot, a journey of four boyhood friends in search of their mortality, is simple and profoundly inspiring. How meaningful for these boys at the genesis of their lives, just learning some of life's most endearing and difficult lessons. We travel along with them, learn along with them, all the while reflecting on our own long lost friends, and the so-important impact they had on our formative years. This movie celebrates what we once were, and brings us back, if only momentarily, to the time when life wasn't about mortgages or cars breaking down, but spending time with our friends, quite possibly, the people we adored more than our own family.

The DVD is marvelous and well worth the price. A documentary shares many insights into making the film, and interviews the remaining boys ,with a touching tribute to the late River Phoenix, who's performance was critical to this movie. The music video was fun to see. However, I found Rob Reiner's commentary to be somewhat minimal. At one point he comments how many memories watching this movie stirs up, but he doesn't elaborate. I wanted to hear more, hear everything....

Because this movie had so much personal impact, it's hard to know if it would effect others in the same way. But, in watching this movie, one of my personal favorites, it is only clear that it does. And thanks to Mr. Reiner for this gift.

Summary: Great Movie - Especially the train part!
Review: I really liked this movie! I don't think kids cursed like that in the 50's-but then, I dunno! My favorite character of course, was the Chris Chambers kid...he looked REALLY good. My mom told me he died. Oh my God. Well, at least he still has a living brother, that dude from the Gladiator. The best part had to be when they were crossing the bridge and then the train came and they had to run as fast as hell so they wouldn't be squashed to death. Another one of the best parts is when Vern drops his hot dog-I think-into the fire.... then they all crack up. I think maybe I'll buy the movie!

Summary: A Magical Movie Experience
Review: This 1986 film directed by Rob Reiner is, without a doubt, the best film adaption of any piece of work from horror maestro Stephen King. However, this isn't the usual King/horror story. It's a magical journey back to youth and the fun adventures you'd have as a kid. Not to mention the bonds you develop with your closest childhood friends. The movie takes place in the 1950's where a group of friends decide to go on an overnight adventure to find the dead body of a boy who was hit and killed by a train. During their journey, the young lads have a few of their own scary encounters. The young guys are all played very realisticly by Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, and the incredibly slimmed down Jerry 'O' Connell. Along the way, they encounter the town bully, played wonderfully by Kiefer Sutherland. The movie is narrarated by an adult Gordy(Wheaton's character), who is voiced, and played, by Richard Dreyfuss. I have always thought Dreyfuss had a great voice, and it is put to great use here. It's a special movie that will rekindle fond memories of your own childhood. Most people might not of gone on such a big and odd journey as these guys, but I'm sure almost anybody can relate to that special time in life. Reiner did a great job. Watch out for a cameo appearence by John Cusack. A great American classic.

Review: This is one of my faves of all time! I must have seen this movie over 10 times before I was even 10 yrs old! I was just thinking about this movie the other day cuz I havent seen it for a while, and there it was on tv! I loved watching it again one more time! Itsa great movie about 4 12yr old boys who set out to find the body of a boy along some railroad tracks, and they run into some problems along the way (arguments, money, leeches, and trains) while their friendship just grows stronger.
