Summary: We Both Started Groaning Half Way Through
Review: Hubby and I both really like Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones. The first half of the movie is pretty riveting. We were thoroughly engrossed with Judd's being sent to prison for the murder of her husband and then plotting a course of revenge when she finds out who set her up to take the fall. The problem is that in the second half of the movie, instead of keeping her in this quite natural mindset, the writer has her start waffling on how she wants to handle the bad guy. It never regains its momentum after that point despite a really good scene in a mausoleum with a casket in New Orleans. Bruce Beresford is typically an excellent director so it is hard to say why he stuck with the second half of this contrived, predictable script. Also, someone should have read up on DNA evidence for near the start of the film there is a crime scene that is drenched with blood. It is presumed that a certain person died there albeit there is no body. Absolutely no one mentions testing this blood for any reason whatsoever, much less to see who can be eliminated as a possible victim via DNA blood testing. The police department has a complete laissez faire attitude towards the most critical piece of evidence. No, the film is not set in LA.

Summary: Judd's best movie to date... fun / watchable / not"high art"
Review: Interesting premise on the "you can't be tried twice for the same crime" law, though I dont think it was exactly what the founding fathers had in mind when they wrote it.Judd gets the chance to show she can be devious, emotional, likable & sexy. Tommy Lee Jones is a good actor, but he wasnt given much room to show it.. he comes across a bit wooden. To me, the story & ending were a bit too "cut & dried"... but still a good flick. Don't expect a sequel -- you won't get one.

Summary: An Thriller with Fantastic Acting Performances
Review: Highly recommended if you want to see the outstanding performances of great actors Tommy Lee Jones and Ashley Judd. They play their roles with conviction and determination. Ashley Judd is a women who is framed for the death of her husband - by the very same husband who is still very much alive. When she realizes she can't be convicted for the same murder twice (hence the title Double Jeopardy), she is off for revenge. The plot is somewhat average, but still a triller that will keep your interest until the very end.

Summary: The Fugitive lives on
Review: This movie doesn't try to trick you into thinking it's not in connection to The Fugitive. It is an entirely different movie, but you will notice the connection right away. Ashly Judd plays a woman accused of murdering her wealthy husband. Leaving her son behind, she goes to prison depressed. While trying to regain contact with her son, she realizes her late husband is not late at all, and is living in a small southern town. Told she cannot be charged with the same crime twice, she waits for until her parol to break loose and do the job she was so wrongly charged for. Tommy Lee Jones and Ashley Judd are two great actors, and is a fun ride to watch. Please have and open mind and dont be critical. After all, movies should be enjoyed not picked at...enjoy it.

Summary: Double Jeapardy - Great Movie, Wonderful Casting
Review: Double Jeapardy kept me glued to the screen. The plot takes several unexpected twists which keeps you watching until the end. The only drawback was that I felt the ending was a bit weak and rushed. Other than that it was a great movie and will be watching it again!

Summary: Very good movie
Review: I first saw this movie at the theatre, then I bought the DVD. It's a great movie. you can really get into this movie and it makes you want to be there and beat the crap out of the cheating, lying husband and his mistress(her best friend). This is another great performance by Tommy Lee Jones. I highly recommend this one.

Review: I just watched Double Jeopardy last night and I really liked it. Being a mother of two small children, Libby's (Ashley Judd) separation from her son moved me to tears. I cried when she had to tell him good-bye, when she spoke to him on the phone, whenever she looked at his picture. And I cried again when they were finally reunited. I pretty much knew what would happen to her no-good husband. I just wasn't sure exactly how they would go about doing it. Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones are wonderful actors. Two of the best, in my opinion. Ashley Judd shines as Libby Parsons. Jones doesn't as much as he did in The Fugitive, but he's still good. This is definitely a movie worth watching. I wasn't crazy about the nudity and profanity, but it's still a good movie.

Summary: ultimately it lacks punch on delivery
Review: DOUBLE JEOPARDY works well as a general viewing film and I'll most likely watch it again. Had I seen it in the theatres paying full "big city" prices, I might have been disappointed, though. It's a pretty average story, a bit reworked from other movie plots, but I don't hold that against the film. The big probelm I have with the film is that ultimately it fails to deliver a good, punchy, thriller-suspense-filled ride similar to, say, THE FUGITIVE (TF) or SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY (SWTE). Poor plot? I don't think so. Problematic script? More likely. There's never the sense of desperate urgency in DOUBLE JEOPARDY that other films manage to produce. Ashley Judd's character never seems to be running out of time or getting closer and closer and closer to being caught in the same way that Harrison Ford's did in TF. I simply don't see Judd as the feisty, determined, revenge and hate driven character the movie purports her to be. The virtual kidnapping of a child, unjust prison time, and spousal betrayal are certainly enough motivation for her to start her post-prison life as she did, searching for her son and her not-murdered husband. But I get the impression that either because of poor plot execution or weak script writing she never gets the opportunity to exhibit the desperation of a wronged mother on a quest for her kidnapped child. And that's a shame, really, because it's a potentially very powerful movie driving force. Now, add to this mix Bruce Greenwood's part as Judd's evil husband who, quite fankly, just isn't all that menancing in DOUBLE JEOPARDY. He's not nearly as close to the "damn he scares me and I hope he gets it in the end" characterization that, say, Patrick Bergin succeeded with as the husband in SWTE. Greenwood is certainly a decent actor, and you don't like him at all by the end of the movie, but there are only a few brief moments when you might consider being afraid of him as the bad guy in a suspense thriller. And that's too bad. The potential for actually hating him could have really moved the film along much closer to being the thriller it was intended to be. And then there's Tommy Lee Jones. I don't mind him at all. A good actor, but to be honest, a disappointing one in this film for me because he didn't move beyond characters he'd already played. And again, I don't know that it was because of him or a poorly written script. The potentional for balancing sympathy against duty could have been better played in an effort to show movie viewers he understood Judd's character's motivation having gone through something so similar. But his part falls short because he never brings to the screen anything that he hasn't already played in other characters in other movies. On the whole, I was left feeling let down by his part for that very reason. I couldn't get past similarities to his characters in TF or even US MARSHALLS. Despite the problems I had with the general execution of the plot and script, in all, the movie ends up working in spite of itself. It's solid (if a little weak), it's watchable, but it's just not the kind of thing that makes you jump in your seat or sit on the edge of it like other thriller or suspense movies are designed to. Three stars seems like plenty to account for these failings without being unkind. Rent it, yes. Buy it? I don't think I will, but your mileage may vary.
