Summary: Cry
Review: Most of the people I've known in my 49 yrs. have never seen me cry. But, I cried when I saw the play on Broadway, and I've cried every time I've watched this video. I cry because the voices are beautiful, because the story is sad, because it's hopeful and stiring, and I cry for pure joy.

The music so completely, in words and melody, portrays and invokes all the emotions felt by the characters, that I've felt their pain, love, hopelessness, outrage, and courage every time I hear it.

The last segment of the tape, the performance by the 17 Jean Valjeans, is truly evidence that some stories are universal, and that music can cross all barriers and languages.

Summary: LEA SALONGA rules!
Review: Lea Salonga, I believe, portrayed Eponine the best to date! Eponine, to my understanding, is a BITTER character due to the obvious reason/s - and LEA SALONGA gave her the life and the voice that Eponine deserves! LEA SALONGA rules!

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: Such beautiful music! Colm Wilkinson is great as Jean Valjean, Michael Ball's performance of Marius is spectacular. In fact, everyone is great! I especially like Lea Salonga as Eponine--On My Own and A Little Fall of Rain are to die for!--and Ruthie Henshall as Fantine. Her voice has something special about it. I can't quite describe it. I Dreamed a Dream and Come to Me are absolutely beautiful. The Innkeeper and his wife are hilarious! Hannah Chick was superb as a young Cosette. Castle on a Cloud is great. I've cried more than once watching and listening to this. I really enjoyed it.

Summary: Les Miserables Review (sorry for being so uncreative)
Review: OK, I love this movie so much, but lets get started

~Colm Wilkinson/JEAN VALJEAN~ He does a great job, but I really think that he sounds like a turkey. I hate to diss him, but there is really no way to get around it! It is immpossibl to find a Les Mierables movie or CD without him on it, unless you don't speek English, i would really like someone new!

~Philip Quast/JAVERT~ This guy is awsome, he is THE Javert! don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Not only does he have an spectacular voice, but in costum he looks just like the Javert that Hugo describes in his book!

~Ruthie Henshall/FANTINE~ Henshall has the most unique voice (next to Beradett Peters). I love her "I Dreamed a Dream"! I always find myself rewinding it and watching her over and over! I also love the way she dies in "Come to Me". I know it sounds morbid but it is fabulous!

~Lea Salonga/EPONINE~ She really has an awsome voice, but I think that she makes a better Kim in Miss Saigon. She does and great job, but i would have liked to have see Francess Ruffel. Her voice is a little wine-e, (I ahve no clue how to spell it is kept on comming out winnie) but that is what I think makes her performance so good!

~Micheal Ball/MARIUS~ He has a pretty good voice, but there are a couple major difthongs where i just want to reach through the screen and streangel him! He seems so arogent!

~Micheal Magiure/ENJOLRAS~ If you ever need to knoe the definition of fabulous, listen to this guy sing! I know he misses a couple of those high notes, on this tape. But he is capabul of hitting them all he didn't miss one on the Original Broadway CD.

~Judy Kuhn/COSETTE~ I love Kuhn's voice! I read one review that called her a screaching soprano, or somthing, but I love her Cosette. I don't think that anyone could to a better job!

~Adam Searles/GAVROCHE~ He does a great job, he is so cute. The only bad part is you can tell that because he is a kid and he is alreally in theater he as probably had a lot of people tell him how great he is and he let it go to his head!

~Hannah Chick/YOUNG COSETTE~ she is so sweat! when that light exploded she just kept on going, she did a really awasome job. i hope that she is in theater when she is an adult, so I can go and see her!

Summary: Excellent!
Review: The concert was the first recording of Les Miz that I heard, so I was thrilled when I heard that there was a video. A friend of mine is right: the cast of this concert is the dream cast. My favorite performers in this one have to be Colm Wilkinson and Philip Quast. I recently bought Colm Wilkinson's CD, and I'm willing to buy pretty much anything involving Philip Quast. The rest of the cast is up to par with Wilkinson and Quast. I have watched my copy of the video so many times that both the audio and the picture are starting to go bad. I'm going to have to get another copy pretty soon. Anyone who is even slightly interested in Les Miz should get a copy of this.

Summary: WOW!
Review: I already did a reveiw for the audio recording of this and even that is great! If you don't think it can be better than that- check out this video! It has the sound but it also has the sight! It was just incredible! When I saw it I was in a daze! And Iu wanted to see it again! It was phenominal! Even though they are just standing there doing their songs- they are their charactors! They put so much emotion into it! In "A Little Fall of Rain" I had a very hard time not crying (And I usually can controll myself well enough). I just love this video! Lea Salonga IS Eponine to me as well as Michael Ball IS Marius. This incredible cast really brings the musical to life. You may think- well it's nothing compared to the actual show, but I think it takes more talent to stand and sing your songs with out the set or props and just your costume. It would be much easier to get into it if you were actually doing the show with everything that goes with it- but this cast still made it seem so real. I love Fantine, Eponine and Marius in this- I just adore those charactors and their wonderful voices! Eponine is my very favorite so most every other female charactor kind of paled in comparison. But still- they were all just great! I love it and I can't wait to own it (my friend owns it, and that's how I saw it). I know that I would actually like this better than the CD, so if I were to choose it would definitely be this. It is more than worth it!

Summary: The Dream Cast
Review: I will make a comment on the portrayal of the role Eponine since it is far more significant than the role of Cosette. If you would like to hear the voice of Eponine as described by the author Hugo, its non of these two famous actor/perfomer Lea Salonga and Francese Rufelle (Kaho Shimada should better perform on Tours not in the big event like this) for the reason that Francese Rufelle doesnt have a harsh voice. She sang with a high pitch and monotonous sound and very nasal. she has her own version of the role that is the pitiful Eponine. Acting wise shes good. Lea sang too beautifully. Its too beautiful that you will think not of the role of Eponine but some lovestory in the movie. Her version is crystal clear. Her version is the bitter one, the feisty one. Its your own choice whether what version do you wanna hear. Its obvious that when you see this concert everyone is waiting for Lea to sing. This is like the opposite like the good and the bad but people seemed to think that the typical Eponine was portrayed by Francese Rufelle but when you come to think of it she was the original one, audiences has that ideology of what Eponine is..but if you wanna hear a flawless and beautiful version have Lea Salonga's rendition. Get both the CD and the VHS.

Summary: A great show!
Review: I saw this film of the musical Les Misérables before I saw the staged production, and it is truly wonderful! First of all, the music is enough to get the CD, but it's great to see the musical whenever you want!

This is a very worth captivation of a stunning musical! Don't miss this! Enjoy!

Summary: MY RESPONSE TO THE REVIEW DATED MAY 20, 2000
Review: To the VIEWER FROM USA, I just wanna tell you that this concert is the best......Eponine is also one of my fave characters and Ms. Salonga's voice did not ruin this character...in fairness to you, Frances Rufelle was also great and I should say that this role was just made for her as KIM is tailor-made just for Lea Salonga....she's one of the best Eponine....and her voice is the only suitable voice for KIM! I am recommending this concert to everyone!

Summary: a DREAM cast!
Review: This is truly a dream cast! Colm Wilkinson (Valjean), Philip Quast (Javert), Michael Ball (Marius), and Lea Salonga (Eponine) especially make this anniversary concert a must-have for any Les Mis fan.

Be warned though -- this video is NOT a replacement for seeing the musical live! It's an abridged version with several edits and less props and acting. If you've never seen the musical before... wait before you buy this, or you'll probably be either confused or disappointed. If you have seen this musical and love it, DEFINITELY get this video! It may not be a replacement for the musical live, but it's a nice little memory of it. Turn the video on and sing along to it while you're at home :)

I've seen Les Mis in London's West End.. the cast there was great, but this video has the definitive "dream team"!

Colm Wilkinson's Valjean is powerful and passionate, but gentle all at once. He has a spectacular voice, especially in "Who am I?" His is a great counterpoint to Philip Quast's interpretation of Javert... whose strong, forceful singing is breathtaking! Quast's rendition is amazing... his strong booming voice is also somehow tragic and haunting.

Michael Ball and Lea Salonga are (in my opinion) the reason why you should get this tape! Wow.. Michael Ball is THE Marius... listening to his beautiful, elegant voice could bring anyone to their knees! With Michael Ball as Marius, it's no wonder Marius gets all the girls in this video. His duet with Lea Salonga in "A Little Fall of Rain" is exquisite: perfectly in harmony, perfectly acted! Lea Salonga was beautiful as Eponine. Yes, she was "bitter"... but Eponine is a bitter character! Her "On My Own" is passionate and bitter, yet sad and resigned... Salonga is truly one of the greatest!

Ruthie Henshall as Fantine was great in "I Dreamed A Dream"... what I thought was the most tragic song of the entire musical. Judy Kuhn as Cosette was good too, but a little nasal-y in "In My Life". Little Cosette didn't miss a note and Gavroche was pretty adorable too. The Thenardiers (Jenny Galloway and Alun Armstrong) were hilarious and provided the necessary "comic relief" in this otherwise tragic tale. They were great fun to watch....

All in all, a great, grrreat video!
