Summary: Wonderful film
Review: This movie affected me to the bottom of my soul. Anyone who has lost a lover, spouse, or partner, and who knows what a dark, lonely place grief is will identify with this movie. This is not a comedy (for those of you who come to expect as much from Robin Williams)so DO NOT get this movie if you are looking to laugh a lot! In fact, this movie made my husband cry, and he's a cop and a Gulf War Vet! The visual effects are stunning. It's a great couples movie!

Review: I rented this movie at the insistence of my wife, who really enjoys the myriad talents of Robin Williams. Unfortunately, it was New Years Eve, and one prefers more uplifting fare, like watching the Marx Brothers' "Horse Feathers" for the hundredth time. After viewing this piece of tripe, even something starring Tom Green would have been preferable. (This is the only way I can really describe how bad this picture is!) Williams portrays a working-class hero who loses his children in a terrible traffic accident--along with himself. He journeys into an afterlife that changes like a fresh-painted canvas thrown into a New York street during a rainstorm. Williams' despondent wife sentences herself to the film's interpretation of hell by killing herself: a dark, empty house at the end of the world, apparently. His extra-worldly guide (played by Cuba Gooding, Jr.) tries to stop Williams from making the journey to reclaim his wife's soul, but Robin will not be deterred. My main problem with the film was primarily its dull pacing, but other factors were all too apparent. For instance, the script was way too earnest and simplistic; it trivializes the afterlife as just a big circus, a place where God is not evident. That, to me, is truly scary. I'm sure New Age aficianados will nod their heads in close-mouthed assent at the Daliesque view of the afterWorld, but it is just too secular and sanitized to be real. I will admit that the special effects are fantastic (which is the reason I gave it one star), but these special effects do not a great film make (witness "Star Wars, Episode I"). This was a real downer film, and its willy-nilly version of the world beyond this just cannot be rationalized. Avoid at all costs.

Summary: A romantic movie a man will enjoy
Review: Great movie! I would've given 5 stars except: this picture's idea of heaven is a combination of several religions (too funky for me); angel's fib; and some minor, unsuitable language which would prohibit viewing this movie as a family.I was never a fan of Impressionism, 'till this movie. I went on the Internet hoping to buy copies of some of the paintings in this movie. No success as of yet, but I'll keep trying. And I'm no fan of Robin Williams; matter of fact I'm not keen on him at all, but he did a great job in this picture. What's the premise of this movie? A family dies and goes to "heaven." First the kids, then Robin, then the wife. However, Robin's wife winds up in the ghetto of the afterlife, and off he goes to save her. I don't want to say anymore and ruin the movie for you. With the junk Hollywood has been throwing into the theaters the past few years, this is something totally unexpected. From the soundtrack to the special effects to the poetic dialogue, there's something in this movie for everyone.

Summary: UTTERLY CHARMING!
Review: The premise of this beautiful film is life after death or ongoing existence in heavens or hells of our own creation. Visually stunning with glorius colors and brillant performances by wonderful actors. Annie and Chris, the perfect couple lose their two children in a tragic accident; then Chris dies in a fatal car accident while trying to help another motorist. His wife Annie sucumbs to grief and commits suicide. Sounds grim, but thus is the stuff of dreams, and a marvelous adventure into the after-life to re-unite the "soul-mates" and their children through the power of Chris' love for Annie. There are some scary moments, but this is and utterly charming film. Robin Williams proves again that he can handle the heavy dramatic roles as well as comedy. Do you believe in Reincarnation or Karma? You may, after you see this film. Thoroughly entertaining.

Summary: FABULOUS!
Review: This is one of my favorite movies, it is soooo moving visually. It is such a wonderful movie. The actors are incredible, the feelings are too. The writter i could tell put soooo much thought into this movie. This beyond what i would have imagined about this movie are here. The questions of life and death, heaven and hell, and god all seemed to come up. Everyone questions these things and this writter wrote what he thought it was like. Its a beautiful movie. From an artist point of view it is inspirational. I have never been so inspired by a movie. Everything is soooo beautiful to look at. Robin williams brings a funny spin to a serious movie. It's a really enjoyable movie for anyone who likes movies that make you think!

Summary: Wonderful visual effects and a great story
Review: This movie is unlike any other movie in the sense that the visual effects alone invoke feelings that the characters are conveying. The story itself is a mixture of intense love and overwhelming melancholy. The visual effects are a work of art, creating an illusion of what I would compare to stepping into a Salvador Dali painting. What Dreams May Come is a surreal and amazing film. I highly recommend it because of the story it tells and the masterpieces it places you into.

Review: This film is visually ambitious and sometimes spectacular, but that, in my opinion, is where the quality ends. An apalling mawkish screenplay and an embarassingly unctuous insipid performance by Robin Williams made me squirm through much of this film. He can be so phenomenal with the right material, and this simply wasn't it. Also wasted in this lurching mess is the estimable Max Von Sydow. Don't waste your time or your money on this bomb.

Review: If you have an interest in fantasy, romance, imagination, originality, emotion and the spiritual realm then you will love this movie! This is a beautiful love story about two soulmates, Chris (Robin Williams) and Annie (Annabella Sciorra). Tragically, they lose both of their children in a car accident. Soon afterwards, Chris dies in a car accident as well, leaving Annie alone bereaved. Chris comes back, in the Spirit, to try and comfort his wife. She can not see or hear him...or can she? After much suffering over her loss, Annie commits suicide. Chris is happy when he is told in his own private paradise. But there is a problem. Annie went to hell because she "violated the natural order of her journey." Chris responds to the terrible news with "I'm her soulmate, I can find her." When told he does not understand he replies "it is not about understanding! It's about NOT giving up!" Chris is determined to find Annie no matter what the cost. "What Dreams May Come" is beautiful from start to finish but Chris' search is what touched me the most. This movie is about agape love--love so pure that it transcends reason or consequence. Follow Chris through a journey into the heart of love. This is Robin Williams in one of his best dramatic performances; a must-have for any fan of his. Annabella Sciorra is a wonderful actress and she and Robin successfully portray soulmates. The script is one of the best I've ever heard, full of beautiful thought-provoking lines (such as the title above.) The cinematography and set design are absolutely stunning--an astounding Heaven and Hell are depicted better than I've seen in countless other movies. The soundtrack is deeply moving as well. I highly and whole-heartedly recommend this movie!

Review: This film had so many possibilities. Remember all those flying people? We see several nuns on the steps near the water, but none of them were flying. It would have been a hoot to see Sally Fields in a cameo of her "Flying Nun" character.
