Summary: Great Battle Scenes
Review: The movie was mediocre at best. I went into the theater knowing that it was going to be alot like Braveheart, but I had no idea how much was similar. It was embarsing for me to watch such an unorigional movie. But while the dialog and plot were preety bad, the acting was above average, and the few battle scenes that there were were great. But there is one scene that make the movie almost laughable, and it is when Gibson comes riding into the scene waveing an american flag, it was ridiculous. I recomend this movie to anyone who is in the mood for some semi gorey battle scenes. Please excuse my spelling.

Summary: Patriot DVD
Review: The Patriot is a well acted and well executed motion picture. Mel Gibson delivers another stellar performance as a man who is torn between a brutal past and an uncertain future. Heath Ledger is very good as Gibson's eldest son, who enlists in the Continental Army against his father's wishes. The musical score by John Williams provides an emotional undertone to the epic action and dramatic scenes between Gibson and his family. This is the best Revolutionary War movie made.

Summary: Very good entertainer
Review: Brought tears to my really. It shows a different side of the war, that we didn't know. We never trough in the war as something really violent as the movie showed us. Realistic really. Mel Gibson was great, in fact, all the actors were great. The movie rocks! Too bad that they showed us the British as a very violent and cold-blooded people and the Americans as big hero's, honest and kind people. That was unnecessary and unrealistic. Buy it. You won't regret it.

Summary: The best movie of the year!
Review: The Patriot is the ideal example of a great movie. It is a serious topic, yet the director manages to bring in humor that is just subtle enough. Definetly one for the DVD collection!

Summary: This movie was AMAZING.........
Review: Mel Gibson plays this role with such pasion. You almost feel like that when you see this in the cinema you are acctually in the movie. Also the children play it like it was really happening, especially the youngest. I had to cry when she called for her daddy.

Heath Ledger is really an up-coming star. We saw him already in "Ten Things I hate about You", which was hilarious.

This movie is about the war between the United States and the United Kingdom. The only part I didn't like in the movie were the wars. But that is how it went in those days, so no complaining.

Mel Gibson has seven children of his own (I think), and therefor I think that he could play his part very well, because he can feel into it. He can express his emotion really good.

This movie is worth 5 stars, because it has everything: Action, Tragedy, a little bit of Romance and Victory.

Don't miss this movie, because it's worth seeing it!

Summary: Really Good but not Amazing Movie
Review: The simalarities with brave heart are going to be drawn no matter what. However even with those comparisons it is a very good and entertaining movie. Mel Gibson shows the great passion that has made him the actor he is today. This movie is one that I would and do plan on buying.

Summary: Unreal
Review: When I first decided to watch the Patriot, I must admit I was a little skeptical that I was plunking down my $8.50 simply to engage in 3 hours of "Braveheart II" or the ugly stepchild of Gladiator. Granted, the movies punctuates the plot with the same gratuitous violence that amazed us in Braveheart, which is fine, however, the story is an engaging and captivating tale that all Americans can appreciate. Mel Gibson does a remarkable job of leading this story, and the movie does a substantial job of referencing Revolutionary war tactics and bringing them to life..All in all, the best movie of the new millenium, and certainly will be even better on my DVD player at home

Summary: The Patriot
Review: One thing that was said after 'the Patriot' came to American movietheatres was that it could be compared to Braveheart. Nothing could be further from the truth; both films starring Mel Gibson deal with vengeance about killing someone close to the main character in a period of uprising against the oppressor, however Braveheart stands very much alone as one of those high marks in filmmaking of the last ten years where the Patriot may not yet take home any statues untill it is Oscar time.

It could be questioned whether director Roland Emmerich is one of Hollywood's most reliable historywriters; being very succesful with movies such as Independence Day and Godzilla Roland Emmerich has now placed his attention on the American War for Independence. However, according to American historywriters Benjamin Martin's character appears to be a gathering of five important historic individuals but that is negligiable when discussing The Patriot; Mel Gibson proofs again the great skill he has within himself to portray the role of freedomfighter Benjamin Martin (and thereby assisted by Heath Leger as his courageous son) and this is Roland Emmerich proof for quality actors when casting for a movie such as the Patriot.

1776; In the United States the colonists are given in to the demands of the English king. Rebellion is about to come. Widower Benjamin Martin refuses to rebel and fight against the English and thus choses to take care of his children. However, one of Martin's children is brutally murdered by a sadistic English army officer and Martin has no choice but to fight the English for the freedom of his 'soon-to-be' country.

On the DVD the spectacular reconstruction of the battlefields is impressive. Computer generated sequences of the battles between the American freedom fighters and the British are well put together.

The English 5.1 mix combined with the 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer makes for a double 5 gradation (5 being the highest). Extra on this special edition is an audio commentary with director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin. Two featurettes including the HBO "First Look" special.

Released by Colombia Tristar Home Video Run Time: 164 minutes Region 1 (U.S.A. and Canada only) DVD release; Oktober 24, 2000 Dolby Digital 5.1 Anamorfic Transfer 2.35:1

Summary: As Good As It Gets
Review: I have been touched by very few motion pictures, but "The Patriot" is one that hit home. I read a review of one major, so-called movie critic, who wrote "The Patriot is a phony as the 4th of July"......I can't sway the minds of some recent comments submitted by several Amazon customers, but I've been back to the theater 6 times, and every time I see this movie, it just gets better. Mel Gibson is excellent as Benjamin Martin, who has seen enough of war, and the horror it brings, but through no falt of his own is forced to take a stand, and become involved. Shot on location, and with the superb musical score of John Williams, this film had the audience standing, and clapping as the end credits started to roll. Many a tear was shed, both on screen, and in the theater. If the video transfer is anywhere near the quality of the DTS theater version I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
