Summary: Revolutionary Rambo
Review: The movie was entertaining, but I figured out what was going to happen in the first 5 minutes. Man has nice home, says he won't fight. Bad guys kill his son, threaten his family, so he goes postal. Like all the other male revenge movies, the film ends with good guy killing bad guy. Well, that's what it was - Revolutionary Rambo. While it was entertaining, it was also kind of cheap. The worst was when Gibson gets his 10 year old sons to provide covering fire while he massacres some redcoats. I kept thinking Revolutionary Youth movement. What a bloodfest this movie was! This film was an engrossing revenge movie, but was too shallow to be called an epic.

Summary: USA ALL THE WAY!!!!!
Review: Hey I know that this movie has TONS of historical falsities in it, but it was still a fun movie to watch! I love how the British are always portrayed as "the bad guys!" First Braveheart and then The Patriot....hmmmmmmmm both Mel Gibson films........I think that ole Mel has a problem with the English!!!! Anyway, there are some really great action scenes in this film, including the HUGE final battle between the Redcoats and the rag tag Continental Army. The revenge story line was kinda hokey, but at the end of the film I actually heard myself yell "GET 'EM!!!!" It also makes you really think about what was sacrificed by so few for what we have now today....kinda boggles the mind if you ask me! An all around action packed romp through South Carolina with Mel's portrayal of the Swamp Fox. This one is not for those who like their movies historically acurate, but hey I enjoyed it, and it is one of those films that makes me say proudly.....THE USA IS A-OK!!!

Summary: Eh.
Review: Everyone should see this movie... once. Its merits include: Heath Ledger showing good growth as an actor; Jason Isaacs as a supremely oily villain; and Tom Wilkinson playing a fairly noble Cornwallis to balance Mel's overblown and flagrantly inhuman brutality. Unfortunately, these fine points aren't enough to deserve watching this film ever again. The film has, at best, a tenuous sense of dramatic tension. The filmmakers attempted to remedy this by periodically slaying major characters. At best ineffective; at worst insulting. At times it seems that Emmerich is peddling some kind of distorted British propaganda by painting American revolutionaries as savages bent on bloodshed and revenge. So rent it; watch it. Enjoy the three good points it has (Ledger, Isaacs, and Wilkinson). Then, when one of this film's unreasonably fanatical followers asks you with bright-eyed enthusiasm, "Have you seen this?!" you can nod, smile, and walk away.

Summary: The Little Girl Made Me Cry
Review: I have never wept during a movie before, but the little girl in this film (forgive me I don't know her name) brought out some serious emotions. She was amazing!

Oh yea and Mel Gibson was pretty good too.

Summary: Wonderful movie once again from Mel
Review: This is an extremely good movie in which Mel Gibson portrays a Revolutionary War era widower, father and activist. He has the trouble deciding between going to war for a cause he supports or leaving his children in the care of a family member and possibly orphaned. You will have to watch the movie to see the wonderfull acting by Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger and all the twists the movie takes you on. Mel and Heath make a wonderful pair by being father and son. I reccomend this movie to anyone over the age of 13 due to the occasional graphic content during the war scenes. Anyone who hasn't seen this movie must be living in a cave to miss such a rock-solid preformance by Mel and Heath.

Summary: Great movie
Review: When I first heard about "The Patriot," I knew it was going to be a good movie because its previews reminded me of "Braveheart" and it stars Mel Gibson. "The Patriot" isn't anything like "Braveheart", but it is a great movie nonetheless. Colonel Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) decides not to enter into the American Revolutionary War because he has a family to protect. However, after a British commander kills his son and his oldest son goes into the war against Benjamin's will, Benjamin does what he has to do and takes part in the war himself. While leading many people against the British, Colonel Benjamin Martin keeps his eye on the British commander that killed his son because he has a lot of revenge for him and Benjamin wants to take that revenge and make use of it.

"The Patriot" succeeds in every way as a great movie. It has great acting by everybody, especially Mel Gibson and the brutal and unforgiving British commander that is in charge. The movie's plot is easy to follow and it'll be hard to take your eyes off the screen the whole time you're watching the movie. "The Patriot" also has decent special effects and the battle scenes couldn't have been done any better. If you like great movies, and especially if you like war movies, you'll like "The Patriot."

Summary: Patriot is trash fest
Review: One of the worst films of the year 2000, this film stinks it stinks because it has no depth or orginality and is purely an excercise in watching Mel Gibson look sensitively into the camera. Please avoid seeing this trash at all costs it has not place in your DVD.

Summary: The Patriot
Review: "The Patriot" is a fine action/adventure drama about a South Carolina farmer in 1776 (Mel Gibson) who reluctantly becomes involved in the American Revolution. The film is directed by Roland Emmerich who gave us "Independence Day", "Stargate" and "Godzilla". Those films were popcorn events whose only purpose was to entertain audiences in a loud fashion. Love them or hate them, those films succeeded in that respect. "The Patriot" is produced with the same flair as Emmerich's previous efforts, but this film succeeds remarkably where those films could not. This film is an exciting popcorn event film written and acted expertly. "The Patriot" may be Hollywood's first Oscar worthy popcorn film.

The heart of the film is Mel Gibson's performance as Benjamin Martin. A hero of the French/Indian War, Martin is now a content farmer overseeing his brood of seven children. His oldest son; Gabriel (Heath Ledger) signs on to fight the British agianst his father's wishes and before long Martin himself is fighting along with Gabriel. While Gabriel fights for freedom, Martin's quest is far more dark and more personal as he tries to both protect his son in the war and seek revenge against a blood thirsty Redcoat played by Jason Issacs.

This film has all the aspects of a great summer event blockbuster. It has spectacular action sequences, villians and noble heroes, a strong supporting cast, a sweet romance and good hearted humor. It is also the first solid film by Roland Emmerich. He proves with the right screenwriter, in this case "Saving Private Ryan"'s Robert Rodat, that he can be a very effective filmmaker.

Summary: A Very Good Movie
Review: The Patriot is a very entertaining film, and while I don't know how historically accurate it is,it's an interesting look back at revolutionary war times.I won't really say anything about the plot, because most people know about it already.Of course Mel Gibson gives his usual great performance. Some of the other standouts include Joely Richardson,Chris Cooper,Heath Ledger,Tchecky Karyo, and Jason Isaacs as the cold blooded Colonel Tavington. The rest of the cast is excellent, too. The cinematography is beautiful, and John Williams adds an excellent musical score.I'll admit I didn't know what to expect when I saw that Roland Emmerich(Independance Day,Godzilla,Stargate) directed this film, but it's excellent, and definately his best movie.

Summary: Face up to the truth Limeys
Review: It seems a pity that people can't take a film seriously simply for a few supposed historical inaccuracies and omissions. The entertainment quality of this movie should outweigh any such qualms of the petty quibblers. OK we didn't see the concentration camps and outrageous British blitz of Nyack, but the producers obviously didn't want to totally alienate the Limeys. To this end Mel Gibson refused to play the scene where Brit lieutenant Callee shoots up the village of Engleton and massacres all the rebels - cowardice I call it. Come on Mel, those Limeys should face up to the truth.... The only reason I didn't give this movie five stars is I can't add up that far.
