Summary: ok, but ...
Review: ... Braveheart's the one that's good. This is a 3 to 4 movie, but because you can't give it a 3 and a half, I stuck to "in dubio pro res" and gave the movie 4 crowns!

I like the dvd, the package, who the studio designed the menu, the extra-stuff is fine too, so I will recommend you to buy this movie, but maybe after you have seen it 2 or 3 times you will never watch it again. I know that does not help much, but I tell you something else: If you like Mel Gibso, buy it. There are some cool bloody scenes in it in the good old-fashioned manner of braveheart. If you like Independence Day and what's behind it, you know what to do. If you expect originality, a high level of niveau, and really good drama, you are about to be disappointed. This movie is done in Hollywood-style, corny and trying to get some tears from you. It did not work for me, but after all, the movie is worth buying. If you are not sure about it, don't go for "in dubio etc" and rent it from your nearest video rental.

Summary: Good and bad
Review: This movie certainly did not have any cinematography messups, the scenery and customs were well done. Being a historian, I cannot agree with their take on the slave situation. It does not present an accurate picture of life in colonial America by saying that slaves on Gibson's plantation worked as freemen. That is just not true. People owned slaves in the late 18th century and there was not a huge movement yet for their freedom in the America's at that time.

Other than that and any other historical inconsistencies the movie runs smoothly and I did not seem to get bored with it.

Check it out just for the sake of entertainment.

Summary: DISAGREEMENT
Review: I completely disagree with Jeff Shanon. It is a absolutley wonderful movie with a solid script. It is not just about revenge. It is about the American Revolution! It clearly represents a triumph over evil in the end, and sets up perfectly, the Reconstruction era that followed. (Just look at the last seen.) A great movie for 13 and above.

Summary: COOL!!!!!
Review: From the very minute I saw the preview I knew I would like this movie. It's got lots of action and drama, and a little bit of romance. Mel gibson was spectacular! So was Heath Ledger and everybody else in the movie. It was a great history movie. Of course it was sad that alot of people died, but wars were like that. I think it should've gotton an award.

Summary: Very good movie.
Review: I really liked Patriot because it is a departure from the revisionist history thinking that was so prevalent in the 90's. The film did have PC moments such as the "volunteer" slaves that were working for Mel, but that was probably put there to keep the film from being branded as racist by fourth rate film producers like Spike Lee. There were lots of reveiewers that have stated that the film was rather anti British. Yeah it was. In fact the whole revolutionary war was anti British. Just like WWII was anti German and Japanese. The portrayal of the British represents the nation as it was 200 years ago - not as it is now. I seriously doubt that anyone in Britan has ill feelings for the United states because we won the American Revolution. Get over the PC ... . We cant walk on eggshells every time we open our mouths or make a movie fearing that we may offend some segment of the entire world's population. I think that patriot was well acted and tells a good story depicting a war that not many of us know much about. I know there were a lot of African Americans who were offended at the lead character who was obviously a slave owner being glorified in the movie. Well, I've talked enough to date in other reviews about judging periods of history by current standards - nuff said. These same people wouldn't be happy unless you replaced the character of Abraham Lincoln in a movie with a black actor. This is a good movie, rather long but one that will entertain throughout.

Summary: Trivialization of U.S. History
Review: Mel Gibson is a great actor. This film unfortunately inserts him into an cheapened cornification of the events surrounding the U.S. Revolution. Heartstrings are tugged and formula spills over into annoying puddles of sentimentality.

Summary: This movie never got the praise it deserved.
Review: When it came to critic and audience review, The Patriot, was a respected movie. To me though, it never got the praise it deserved. This movie was filled with emotion, drama, action, and was a good historical lesson. If it weren't for those people who fought for our freedom in the Revolutionary War, we'd probly be under the control of England to this very day. As for the movie, I honestly think it should have been nominated as Best Picture at the Academy Awards. I think the only reason it wasn't, is because it was from the creators of ID4 and Godizilla. I think thats one of the reasons some people never gave this movie a chance. The drama in this movie was very powerful and the action scenes were very intense. Mel Gibson was great and so was Jason Issacs, who was so ruthless and heartless, especially when he killed Mel Gibsons son in the movie. All in all, it's not as powerful as Saving Private Ryan, but it's a wonderful take on the Revolutionary War.

Summary: great family video
Review: It is an excellent video for the family and it's beautiful. The tensions and emotions are brilliantly illustrated but the plot was a little bit weak, and bias. IT's a little anti british.

Summary: WORST WAR MOVIE EVER!!!!!
Review: Finally a war movie comes out about the Revoloutionary war......Sadly it was the worst movie ever. And I am also Irish and Pro-Sinn Fein!!!!!!! It was just tooooooo American. and not only that it was inaccurate!!!!!!! They sing joyous music when British soldiers (Who at the time was the best army in the world)are shot and getting killed and their stomachs are ripping out but when an American who gets wounded it's the end of the world. The [worst] part of the whole movie is when Mel Gibson talks to his Wife's sister and she goes "Sure.....it's a free country or at least it will be......" Not to mention how people in the background get shot in the foot and die but if Mel or that british Col. get shot in the face their wounds heal over night!!!!!! Also the Rev. and Gabriel are both Shot (or stabbed) in the stomach and die, but the British Col. continues on with the rest of the war when he is shot in the stomach and in the arm. The movie makes it seem as if the British are soooooooo Evil and the Americans are gods. And yes sometimes the British were like that but so weren't the Americans? I just hate that movie it's innacurate.....IF YOU LIKE THE COLONIAL ERA I RECOMEND "LAST OF THE MOHICANS" THAT MOVIE IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: I'm Afraid Matthew's Wrong
Review: The South Carolina Militia actually did fight in the Battle of Cowpens using exactly the tactics shown in the nameless climactic battle in the movie. Of course Cornwallis wasn't at Cowpens and neither was Nathaniel Greene but the Militia was, led by Andrew Pickens.
