Review: vincent gallo is so amazing in this film, he sets out to give us his best, and he succeeds at every turn. a character study if you'd like, where human frailties are shown with such poetry, you'd end up falling in love with bobby brown's fragile and childlike person. i saw it 3 times, and it gets my vote for best film of 1998 hands down.

Summary: pleasent find
Review: I guess one could rent Lethal Weapon 4. I guess, then, one would be a louse. There are movies that attract the lousy and then there are those which whisper that movies are a good thing, still. It's hard for me to sit quietly here; Buffalo 66 is too good. When they bowl (Ricci and Gallo), when they yell at each other, when only his fat stomach shows, when they hold each other in the rented room. Just go see it. Tell me what you think. I'll hug you when you understand.

Review: what else can i say about this film thas hasnt been said already, the praise is well deserved and it being vincent gallos debut film only makes a person wonder how great of an artist he truly is, not only as a genius musician who also did the score for the film and the music works so well with the film, but also as a writer and director, one of my favorite films of all time , and definately in my top ten, cristina ricci also deserves praise for her role, and i couldnt picture anybody else playing it. buffalo '66 is quite an accomplishment

Summary: Very Humble Film
Review: Don't know why it took me so long to view this, after all the hype it recieved. Just want to let everyone who, like me, has waited until now to see this, how much of a joy it was to watch.

This charcter study follows a man who has just been released from prison after 5 years. He has told his parents that he works for the government and is required to travel. They think that he is married, and that he is flying in to see them.

After spending what must've been about an hour of trying to pee, he kidnaps a tap dancer and tells her that she has to pose as his wife.

Meanwhile a subplot unfolds, as the viewer finds out why was sent to prison in the first place, and how he plans to avenge his downfall.

Excellent film! Great chemistry between the charcters, unique execution, and a perfect ending. There is a certain humble quality about this film, I was left with a feeling of wanting to just live a self-less life...hard to explain, just see this film.

Summary: This One Really Got Me!
Review: Like many other reviewers of this movie, I was totally captivated by how untraditional and original this little gem is. Instead of telling each other how they feel about each other, Gallo and Ricci use body language, awkward pauses, and goofy expressions to convey their emotions.

It's not that there's not dialogue--in fact, Gallo's character can't seem to stop talking--but what is spoken is not what is being implied. A great deal of the tension in this film is the inability of these characters to express themselves in any coherent manner.

I'd like to go on, but it would just be a rehash of the other positive reviews! Just let me add that this is one of the the very few movies I have watched more than twice, and lots of people I know share the same sentiment.

Summary: A Good, Different Film
Review: This is my first review here on Amazon, so what does that tell you? This is one of my favourite films. I first watched Buffalo '66 having no idea what it was about, or what genre of movie it belonged to. I've seen this movie around 15 times, and I can't decide whether it is a comedy, drama, romance, all three? Anyways, it is one of those movies with a great twist in the end and many quotable lines. I can't say enough about this film. Just check it out, it is different. We all need different. Good different, too.

Summary: Sartre Meets Buffalo
Review: Is there a word for being scared of neurotic people? Neurotiphobia? <U>Buffalo '66</U> hit me as more of an artful horror flick than as a psychoanalytical independent film. While traditional horror flicks rely on cheap scare gimmicks and dramatic music, <U>Buffalo '66</U> strikes fear into its audience by depicting neurotic characters living lives of ultimate futility in dreary Buffalo winter. Perfect hell. I was overcome by this film's existentialist depression and felt an almost Sartian nausea as I watched the film and imagined what it would be like to live a life so depressing. Actually, I recommend reading Sartre's <U>La Naus?e</U> and then watching <U>Buffalo '66</U> right after it. Especially if you know more about existentialism than I do. I want to hear your take.

Had I not visited Buffalo a few times prior to seeing <U>Buffalo '66</U>, the film would have convinced me never to go near the city. But then again, <U>La Naus?e</U> made me want to avoid early 20th century France, so maybe I'm a little oversensitive. <U>Buffalo '66</U> has perfect cinematography, incredibly natural dialog, and an independent feel that movie snobs will swoon over. Don't watch it if you're prone to depression or if you're having a bad day. But do watch it.

Summary: "...We're just spanning time here..."
Review: Dark, underrated little indie about a brooding college town loser (played with utter believability by writer/director Gallo) whose moronic, self-destructive obsession with revenge gets blindsided by unexpected love.

Starts out dreary and desolate - but stick with it. This little gem of a black comedy holds some hidden surprises, not the least of which is a lovely, vulnerable performance by an incredibly beautiful Ricci - who offers the schmuck a glimmer of hope and - just maybe - a last chance at happiness.

Cast is uniformly excellent but Ricci is just plain irresistible. One of the most magnetic screen actresses since Louise Brooks - you can't take your eyes off her.

Every strung-out loser should be so lucky.

Summary: Contradictory brillance
Review: Let me say right off,the two stars are strictly for
the plot.This movie is a masterpiece of cinematography and acting.Vincent Gallo has to be respected and admired for this
piece of work by any reasonable measure.


The plot however is absurd.Although I'm reluctant
to make a big deal out of something that isn't real,
within the context of the movie,the plot should be believable
or else how can you be drawn in by it.It's the same with acting.
If it's really bad you can't even get into and so you won't
enjoy it.


The whole premise of the movie centers on his kidnapping
of Ricci's character,but this falls apart so many times it's
scary.I don't know how you can steal a girl,in broad daylight,
from a public place,(a tap dance studio)UNSEEN,by any witnesses,
to her car and not get caught.Simply not believable!Gallo makes
it worse by actually having her get out of the car and forcefully making her clean the windshield(unseen by any witnesses)WHAT?This goes on for the entire movie.At one point,
despite him apparently having no weapon,leaving the keys in HER
car,and walking over 15 feet to urinate by a tree,Ricci's
character makes no attempt to escape.WHAT?At another point in
Gallo's screenplay he clearly states that after Ricci's
character fakes it for his parents she could leave.Yet after
those scenes,despite no further explanation from the dialogue,
she's still with him.WHAT?More absurd threads in this movies
plot centers on Ricci's character.At times I've questioned the
soundness of female logic.And I know,humans are moved more by
emotion,but come on.Are we really to believe there's a female
who's capable of feeling affection for an ex-con who,at every
turn,treats her with the upmost contempt?They are lying in bed
at one point,she could have slashed his throat or at least
tried to escape but again.....?In another scene they are bowling
and he wants to leave.She asks if they could stay because she's
having so much fun.WHAT??YOU ARE A KIDNAPPED WOMEN,HOW THE HELL
ARE YOU HAVING FUN?He even tells her she can stay if she wants,he's leaving.WHAT?ISN'T THAT YOUR KIDNAP VICTIM?I'll just
mention one more because I know I'm harping on this way too much
but geez!O.K;Ricci and Gallo's character are in the phone booth
taking some pictures for his parents benefit I guess.(Although
why he wants to impress them remains to be explained since they
don't even like each other much)Despite him not asking her to,
Ricci's character voluntarily kisses him.WHAT?Why would a person,fiction or non-fiction,kiss someone who's treated them so
poorly and has committed at least TWO FELONIES upon them!??
Gallo's character actually takes offense!??Which brings me to my
next topic-Christina Ricci.


Ricci is so beautiful in this movie it's scary.I
mean good-lord!!!I'm not sure if a female would like this
movie so much,but I can see why a man would.I'd love to have
a girlfriend who's as patient,understanding and just down right
lovable as Ricci is here.As if her personality wasn't enough
(and it was!)her body is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!Can any of you
people explain to me how someone can be that voluptous at 18!!!!!!!!!(I think that was Ricci's age at the time the movie
was made)


I enjoyed this movie immensely,especially with the
knowledge of it being an Independent film.I find that hard to
believe because the soundtrack,lighting,camera work and acting
are all artsy-fartsy first-rate.I'd recommend it to any misogynist,isolated male or person of discerning cinematic tastes.
