Summary: This is the Best Movie ever created
Review: This is not a film for everyone, but, in my opinion, this is the best movie ever created. Vincent Gallo's use of symbolism and his outstanding characters are unparalleled to any movie I've seen other than Citizen Kane. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

Summary: a good independent movie
Review: This was a good independent movie. Independent movies tend to be artsy, slow paced and generally boring. While it was artsy, Gallo's use of multiangles and photo montages and that freeze frame thing at the end (watch the movie and you'll see what I'm talking about) borders on pretentious, it kept a good pace and remained interesting throughout. The characters had interesting quirks and flaws. Much has been written about Christina Ricci's performance. While I find Ricci entirely engaging, her performance was too subtle and she seemed bored. In comparison to the other characters, her character is under developed and her story is unexplored. Why? I don't know. She has a strong screen presence but is under utilized. It was difficult finding reasons as to why her character was so tolerant of Gallo's abuse and falls in love so easily with him. What carries the film, in my opinion, was the unique way the story unfolds. Gallo uses a combination of flashbacks and cinematic effects to deliver what could have been a a dull plot. By any standard, this is a good movie made by Gallo's unique vision.

Summary: This is the reason movies are made.
Review: Buffalo '66 was easily the best film of the year. It is completely real and naturalistic. The writing is economical and extremely fluid. There is no hollywood fat (or, should I say fluff) to cut through--there is just a simple, engrossing, funny, sad story filled with wonderful characters. Vincent Gallo and Christina Ricci are marvelous and their development from strangers to ? (I can't completely give that away) is just great. There are a lot of really nice supporting performances including a plum role by Angelica Huston. Watch this film--you'll be delighted!

Summary: The movie does not even deserve one star. (i.e. it was bad).
Review: I don't care about the dark, haunting nature of this tired effort. You can call it a 'film' and pretend it sucked because 'artistic vision,' or whatever, is sometimes too deep for everyday comprehension. But there really is no excuse. This movie was slow, boring, and without a redeeming quality. There was no point to a scene that dragged on for twenty-five minutes. In all honesty, there was no point to the movie itself. Christina Ricci should be shot. I want my two hours back.

Summary: Buffalo '66 is a smart, fresh, well-told story--Gallo rocks.
Review: Buffalo '66 is a product of director/writer/actor/etc. Vincent Gallo--a true genius filmmaker. It is a terrific story, told perfectly from a fresh cinematic angle. The clever blend of comedy and drama makes Buffalo '66 a true original--and the characters are unbeatable. If you like the offbeat visions of independent filmmakers, you'll adore Buffalo '66. An out and out success for Gallo.

Summary: Best movie of 98
Review: Please, you owe it to yourself to span time watching this movie. It begins somewhat dark and mean spirited but turns into a really sweet movie. Although the roles of the big name movie "stars" are little more than cameos the film is all the better for it. You might also want to check out the soundtrack. Gallo is a true auteur.

Summary: see it at all costs
Review: Yes, this movie, nay, "film," MUST be seen by one and all. It truly is in my top 5 films of all time. Excellent performances, lovely color saturation with the unique film stock, combined with a lovely story, where you learn to grow to love the character of Billy Brown. Rarely does a film reach the depths of the search for love that this one does. Beyond beautiful.

Summary: A funny, well written, superb small film.
Review: Buffalo '66 restores ones faith in film as an art form. It proves that good writing and tight direction can still win out over special effects extravaganzas. This film is funny, edgey, and immensely entertaining. Vince Gallo's rough, tortured character plays against Christina Ricci's vacuous innocence to create a portrait of people you begin to care about. It is destined to become a cult classic.
