Rating: Summary: I wish I can give more! Review: Brad Pitt proves once again he's not just a pretty face. I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching this movie! I'm not going to get into details of the movie since so many have done it already. But this movie made me laugh and it made me cry and not too many movies can make me do that esp. one movie, it made me realize the importance of families sticking together. It's amazing watching this great family when life was simple and nearly perfect for them fall apart and then in the end come back together again. I loved Pitt, Hopkins and Quin's acting. Julia Ormand was wonderful. I know some reviwers complained about the Tristan and Susannah love affair saying it wasn't true love, and I agree somewhat, it wasn't really true love cause it wasn't meant to be. IMO I also have to say that the whole cast was good in this film, the young girl who played Isabel Two was great and I agree watching her wait patently for Tristan was very moving. I don't want to give away too much but I highly recommend watching this film, I can't get enough of it. Also for Pitt lovers-he looks so freakin' hot in this movie!!! Best hair movie for Pitt as well. I had to get that out of my system.
Rating: Summary: Why the word Schlock is used. Review: Hollywood has devoted far too much time to maudlin love stories full of emotion. For as much emoting as done in these movies, it is completely unable to rise above the most banal of sentiment. Legends of the Fall is a fine example of this disease. It is a love story to be sure, as it is set in the most picturesque wilderness possible (could love occur in the city? no.). There is the obligatory war in the background (could love occur in peacetime? what are you, some kind of dovey pinko? go back to russia.). Of course the war has tragic consequences, during which you can hear, if you strain, the director urging you to cry. If you cry at hallmark commercials, you may be undeterred by the stupefyingly predictable plot. If you desire more from a movie, check out Welcome to Spring Break. There is a love story here too, but it is set in Miami Beach. The war here is a battle of revenge fought by the ghost of a biker gang leader. Also, it frequently uses the word "beaver", which does not appear in Legends of the Fall. I love animals as much the next Dick or Peter, and think the paucity of beaver references in Legends of the Fall is inexcusable. However, the discriminating viewer can look at Welcome to Spring Break to avoid this injustice.
Rating: Summary: Better than the Book! Review: The book is great, the movie is better. It explores the psychology of men in such a way that rivals even "The Godfather" (though the film itself does not). Brad Pitt is a mighty actor, and he completely melts into his part as Tristan. Wow!
Rating: Summary: A mawkish, overlong family drama Review: Well intended but unsatisfying melodrama with flat performances, a mediocre recreation of the time period, and a story that has as much wit and subtlety as a pro-wrestling match. You've seen it all before: complications of love between two brothers, a World War I subplot, and Hopkins overacting! This movie could have been made fifty years ago, and made much better, with stars like Gary Cooper or Spencer Tracy as the father, Liz Taylor as the young woman, and Rock Hudson and Montgomery Clift as the two sons. Well, at least that's who I see as the leads.
Rating: Summary: Poorly acted and obvious Review: Brad Pitt cutting off human scalps... Please. And who could've guessed that Aidan Quinn's lovely young intended would fall for the troubled Pitt... Gimme a break.Way overated
Rating: Summary: It was a good death. Review: Legends of the Fall is a moving epic that has captured the hearts of many movie goers accross the globe. The film centres around Colonol Ludlow and his three sons, Tristan (Brad Pitt), Alfred (Aidan Quinn)and Samuel who were raised on a ranch in Montana. When they grow into men, Samuel comes back to ranch with his new fiance Suzannah (Julia Ormond) whom all the brothers take an attraction to. All three brothers then go to fight in the first world war where Samuel is brutally killed causing demons to be released in Tristan that start to plague his life from then, on whilst he is only understood by his fathers close native American Indian friend Onestab. As the story moves on the family moves apart, with Alfred and the colonel having a blazing row whilst Suzannah marries Alfred on the rebound from Tristan who has left the ranch. The second half of the story begins when Tristan returns and marries life long friend Isabelle. Suzannah's jealousy heightens but admist her emotions Isabelle is tragically and accidently killed by police working for two gangland brothers whom are trying to move Tristan away from bootlegging on their patch. Tristan gains revenge but not before Suzannah puts a bullet in her head leaving Alfred devastated. Then to add to an already superb film is a violent showdown in which Alfred saves Tristan and his fathers lives. The film ends showing Tristans later death which tops off a truly magical film, Performances from Anthony Hopkins, Aidan Quinn and Julia Ormond add great depth to this film whilst Brad Pitt is outstanding, How did he not win an oscar for his portrayal of Tristan?
Rating: Summary: Heartbreaking Drama Review: Brad Pitt, Aidan Quinn and Anthony Hopkins shine in this epic film. There's no point in me telling you the story since many reviewers have already done that, but I will tell you that this a touching film that will require tissues.
Rating: Summary: the greatest movie Review: The majestic and untamed territory of Montana sets the scene for this unforgettable moving film. A strong father, played by a remarkable actor, watches his sons grow into men, all very different in their ways. But none of them as authentic, like their father, as Tristan. Wild and knowledgable Tristan captures the hearts of everyone he touches. The hardest of lives is set upon him, losing loved ones, but his spirit, that of a grizzly guides him through. This is the greatest movie ever made and it will surely capture your heart.
Rating: Summary: Legends of DVD Review: A true EPIC film that spans the "lifetimes" of an entire family, the Ludlows. This film is incredible. A tale that follows 3 men who grow up brothers but ultimately become their own man. Their father, played by Anthony Hopkins, is terrific in this film as usual. Julia Ormond plays the very credible love interest of all 3 brothers at different times in their lives. This story has it all. love, death, romance, scenics, fine acting, great casting, great music (James Horner) ... everything. I highly recommend this one to anyone. I think you'll thoroughly enjoy this film. For those who have this on vhs or laser or even the early dvd version of this film, you need this new printing. It's much better than anything before it. The colors are crisp, the images are spectacular and the sound is fantastic. I listened to the Ed Zwick and Brad Pitt commentary as well and it's great too. You can hear the love in their voices for this film. Some great anecdotes and great insight into the making of this film. Very laid back commentary with lots on info. The deleted scenes are not that great. They seem to be just tacked on to the disc to tack them on. Ultimately you can see why they were cut from the film, but I like seeing this stuff anyways. Better to have, then not. Anyways, check out this film if you have never seen it. Even if you are not really a fan of Brad Pitt's you'll like him in this role. Anthony Hopkins is great, Aidan Quinn, wow this guy can tell a story with his eyes alone and Henry Thomas is fabulous as the younger of the brood. Julia Ormond beautiful as ever, I would fight over her, given the chance. ENJOY!
Rating: Summary: SPLINTERS Review: This film would get four stars from me if Julia Ormond were not in the film. Somehow she ends up in roles like this all the time... with different men fighting over her. I don't see why anyone would fight over her. Minus Ormond this film is excellent with the patriarch of the family played by an incomparable Anthony Hopkins whose forceful and important presence is felt even after his character suffers a stroke and ends up unable to speak anymore. Hopkins' character conveys the personal pain he feels over the death of the youngest son and even more reflects his pain when the middle son, and presumably the favourite (Brad Pitt) runs away. Brad Pitt plays his character with passion and conviction, and the viewer can actually feel his fraternal love as he goes to war to try to protect his younger brother from harm. You can also sense his heart being broken as he cannot save the younger brother. Also excellent in this film as the eldest brother, Aidan Quinn, who is jealous of Brad Pitt's character. Ormond plays the youngest brother's fiancée. When the youngest brother dies, Ormond is caught between the affections of Quinn's character and Pitt's character. Ormond loves Pitt but not Quinn. Pitt eventually leaves again and travels around the world losing himself while also trying to find himself. After years pass, Ormond eventually marries Quinn's character. Pitt returns and marries a woman he loves dearly and has children with her. The strained relations between Ormond, Quinn as her husband, and Pitt are actually very well done by all three actors. The film would perhaps like to be a love story, but more sweepingly it succeeds as a story about families and their internal problems and personality conflicts and how they deal with pain and loss.
