Summary: A true masterpiece, but it's terrible under rated
Review: "Legends of the Fall" is an epic set in the early 1900s about a close-knit family that randomly comes together and breaks apart. Tristan (Brad Pitt), Alfred (Aidan Quinn), and Samuel (Henry Thomas) have always been real close. One thing that all three brothers have in common is that they all go into war together and see how tough it is to experience such a struggle, even though their father, Colonel William Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) doesn't like the idea. Another thing they have in common is that they all love Susannah (Julia Ormond).

All of the characters in "Legends of the Fall" have their own separate personalities that can clash or come together at the drop of a hat. I could explain each of them, but that would give the movie away. Throughout the film, the different characters provide commentary about different events such as reading letters that are written, or telling personal thoughts.

"Legends of the Fall" won the 1994 Oscar for best cinematography in a motion picture, and it's true, this film does have spectacular scenery and landscapes, but that's the least that "Legends of the Fall" has to offer.

There are both good times and bad times in "Legends of the Fall." Overall, it's a fairly depressing movie, but that's just because it's a realistic film about how jealousy and bad times such as war ruled the world back in the early 1900's, and probably even more these days.

As I mentioned earlier, all of the main cast put out their absolute best effort in "Legends of the Fall." As always, I was the utmost impressed by Anthony Hopkins's performance. Brad Pitt, who was the main star in this film, puts out what is his best effort ever, in my opinion.

I can tell when a movie is one of my favorites of all time by how much I want to see it after I see it for the first time, and especially by how often I watch it after seeing it several times. "Legends of the Fall" is one of those movies that never has and never will get old to me.

No matter what kind of movie you like, even if you're not crazy about epics or dramas, give "Legends of the Fall" a chance. It just might become one of your favorite motion picture legends.

Summary: From The Director Of Glory...
Review: This is a beautifully made movie. The photography, particularly the composition and landscape work is enjoyable even before the actors start to speak. The costumes and sets are first class, and the actors all acquit themselves well. Director Zwick made good choices with all the lead roles, choosing star names who turn in good performances. Hopkins' performance loses subtlety towards the end, and Brad Pitt is sometimes too expressionless, but Aidan Quinn never wavers, and Henry Thomas displays the quality of innocence which led to Spielberg casting him as the star of E.T. as a boy actor. James Horner's music is emotional and appropriate, however it is sometimes too prominent in the mix. With five major stars, the film gives them equal prominence, so it would have benefited from making the characters more sympathetic. However this is a personal thing (and of course taken from the novel rather than created by the film people and you might like the realistic portrayal of rounded characters, neither wholly good, nor wholly bad. The plot is a little predictable, but this is not unusual for subject matter of this type. Just sit back and enjoy the scenery and performances.

Summary: It reminds me of a life that could have been
Review: This is a magnificent film but one that can only be appreciated by those who know the true beauty of Montana like scenery and those who are not scared to appreciate their emotions and what they bring out. Its an intriguing tale of a family who make their homestead in Montana and each of their travels through life centered on Tristan(Pitt) and the patriarch(Hopkins).
It makes me long for the outdoor life and simple living that may still be there to be had. Any person who is not cold inside or who has disdain for the ills of society or regimented society itself will be drawn into this world and will not easily escape.

If you identify with tristan's story then try the razors edge another film that I get reminded of when I think of tristan's story, a search for the real meaning of our existence.

Summary: Legend of a Movie
Review: Legends of the Fall was released in 1995 by Columbia/Tristar Studios and runs 134 minutes in color. Edward Zwick directed a cast full of stars that included Brad Pitt as Tristan Ludlow, Anthony Hopkins as Colonel Ludlow, Aidan Quinn as Alfred Ludlow, Julia Ormond as Susannah Fincannon Ludlow and Henry Thomas as Samuel Ludlow. Legends of the Fall won an Academy Award for best cinematography by John Toll.
The movie takes place in the early 1900's in the "Big Sky" country of Montana and the themes involved are love, jealousy and personal struggle. Legends of the Fall is a true epic in all aspects of that genre.
Four stars is what Legends of the Fall receives for the beautiful outdoor scenery alone, but the acting also plays into that rating. The characters seem very real and interact in such a believable manner with themselves and each other. There is a definite admiration by Colonel Ludlow for his three sons, especially Tristan, the middle boy. Susannah and Samuel have a mutual affection between the two of them and their love for one another. Tristan loves his younger brother, Samuel, so much and wants to be his protector in every way imaginable. He and Susannah also have an attraction between one another. Alfred is, believably, jealous of Tristan no matter what it is.
In the beginning we see Tristan as a wild, spirited, free boy and is after a grizzly. This would, in the end of the movie, decide Tristan's fate. He grows into a young man, still wild, spirited and free. His younger brother, Samuel, returns to their Montana home with his fiancé, Susannah, and both Alfred and Tristan are taken over by her beauty, as well as Colonel Ludlow. Susannah is overwhelmed by Tristan the moment she lays eyes on him.
All seems to be right having all the boys back under the Colonel's roof, but then Samuel drops a surprise on all of them; he is going to go to Europe to fight in the war. Colonel Ludlow is appalled at this and Susannah is extremely upset. Tristan vows to bring Samuel home safe to all of them. All three boys go to Europe and fight in the war and, in front of Tristan, Samuel is killed. This would weigh on Tristan's shoulders for the rest of his life.
Once he and Alfred were back in Montana, Tristan and Susannah fall in love. Alfred is very jealous of this and everything about Tristan. Tristan is still wrestling with his inner being and that of losing Samuel. He embarks on a journey overseas and is gone for many years. When he returns, Alfred and Susannah have married and moved to town. Tristan falls in love with Isabel Two, which is no longer the little girl he remembers; she is a beautiful grown woman. They marry and have two children and are a happy family. One day when returning from town, the police stop Tristan, Isabel Two and One Stab, Tristan's Indian friend and Colonel Ludlow's loyal Indian companion, and Isabel is accidentally and tragically killed. About that same time, Susannah is unhappy with Alfred and jealous of Isabel Two. She tragically kills herself and leaves Alfred stunned and alone.
The last scene is back in the wilderness of Montana where Tristan is still fighting with his inner spirit and chasing the grizzly bear. The movie ends with a blurry scene of Tristan fighting with the grizzly and finally giving into the spirit of the bear and himself. This is a great epic that mixes many emotions and evokes many feelings out of its viewers. One would get nothing but enjoyment out of watching Legends of the Fall and falling in love with the characters and the view of the scenery throughout the film.

Summary: Beautiful Saga
Review: Wonderful Saga set in Montana during WWI. Beautiful love story that I watch at least once a week. Beautifully filmed. The chemistry between the characters make this a worth while movie even if the plot weren't as wonderful as it is. Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt, and Julia Ormond portray their characters exquisitely.

Summary: In years to come, this movie will be a "legend"
Review: I've seen this movie five time now. Every time I've seen it, I have enjoyed it even more. Brad is awesome. Anthony Hopkins, incredible. Poor Aidan does a great job, but is over powered by the incredible performance of Brad and Anthony. Julia Ormond, who I love dearly plays a superp roll, but like Aidan is just another supporting actor with these two. Thumps up is not enough. See it, buy it, and years from now, you also, will considerate it a "classic".

Summary: Ridiculous with a capital R
Review: Boy, this is one silly movie! Now answer truthfully, If your lover pulled a knife on you in bed, wouldn't that be the end of your relationship? Well, that's the kind of stuff going on in this incredibly unbelievable movie. This was my first Brad Pitt movie, and I just don't see what all the hoopla is about. And check out Anthony Hopkins--even after he strokes out, he's still pulling his rifle out on people!

One legend that doesn't merit perpetuating.

Summary: 's a jo', this dvd, man!
Review: Although I like the film, I think this is not a Special Editions. 3 deleted scenes and 2 uninteresting featurettes, heaven, what do these people think that produce these so-called Special Editions? But as I said at the beginning, the movie is very good, although it might be sort of corny at some parts. I especially liked the ending, which is pretty bloody and pretty good filmed as well.

The story generally is about three brothers who all fall in love with the same woman. One bro dies, the second goes crazy, the 3rd fails to make her happy and in the end there is a whole deal of revenge business Brad Pitt has to get rid of! Cool. I bought the soundtrack too - it's very good, I like to listen too it from time to time while reading. See for yourself!
