Summary: Horrible !
Review: It's a commercial for Brad Pitt on the horse, which is unnecessarily and annoyingly long. That's it, nothing more. Besides, it doesn't work. Brad Pitt looks stupid in this movie, thouth I admit he is still hansome. Nearly all of the characters are annoyingly irreasonable and irresponsible. Female characters look especially stupid. Also, I am really sick of seeing white people mystify the native Americans, pretending to forget the fact it's the White who destroyed them almost entirely.
It's not a good movie, though its background is beautiful and some hansome and pretty people are in it.

Summary: Epic Family Saga
Review: From breathtaking scenery to shots of Brad Pitt as eye-candy for the ladies, LEGENDS OF THE FALL has something for everyone. Edward Zwick brings a powerful story of brotherly love and conflict to the screen, a story that stays as fresh and vigorous as the majestic northern Rockies.

The conflict that drives this story involves brothers Alfred and Tristan Ludlow (Aidan Quinn and Brad Pitt). Here are two brothers torn apart by their love for the same woman, and by Alfred's resentment that Tristan is his father's favorite son. Tristan--wild, self-destructive, guilt-ridden--must exorcise some demons of his own (and does). The film moves relentlessly toward a compelling climax, when the brothers come to one another's aid, when a father's love for his outcast son is renewed.

Anthony Hopkins is brilliant as family patriarch Colonel Ludlow. LEGENDS OF THE FALL is as tough, gritty, and determined as its scenic background--as tender and poignant as any family saga ever portrayed. Highly recommended.

Summary: Different Movie
Review: Legends of The Fall was okay, but there was way to many deaths and time went by so quickly it was pretty confusing. In my opinion, Brad Pitt was good, but his character was a few cans short of a six pack if you know what I mean. Julia Ormond is a good actress (I saw her in First Knight with Sean Connery) but in both movies she can't seem to keep one man. Yeah it's R and not for young children anyway, but I still don't think I'd recommend it to many people. Itwas just weird. Call me slow, but I had trouble following the storyline. Legends of the Fall just didn't do much for me.

Summary: A Legendary Journey!
Review: This was a wonderful movie. A lot better than I ever expected. I'm not one to cry during movies, but I cried from what I recall, on FOUR different occasions. Or maybe I'm a little emotional since its that time of the month...:-)
Regardless, I recommend this movie to everyone, even mature children. There are two cases of brief nudity, but are rather tame in their depiction in my opinion. A great movie to view with a significant other.

Summary: A Real Tearjerker
Review: If you don't like to cry at movies, don't see this one. If you don't normally cry in movies, and think that you can stay tough through anything, think again. I NEVER cry in movies, and I was nearly brought to tears about 6 times during this. Not that it was a bad movie. Not in the least.

This movie really makes you care about the characters. Three brothers, a father, and the woman that drove them apart. To me, the father was the most endearing, because even when faced with the most horrific challenges, he manages to overcome them. Tristan, the main character, and his brother Alfred, both run away from their problems, only to different places, and the youngest, Samuel, didn't live long enough to have any. The catalyst is the woman, Suzanna, who first becomes engaged to Samuel, and then finds out that love isn't everything she'd wished for. (I'd tell you more, but I don't want to ruin the story.) At the edges of this brilliant picture, are the people who truly run the farm, including the old indian master, the indian/white convict couple and their half-breed daughter, who at thirteen knows that she will marry the middle son, Tristan (significantly older than her).

To me, the whole movie moves forward with a self-desctrustive determinism, that no matter what happens, life continues, sometimes with even more devastating effects. The real tragedy of the movie is not what happens to Tristan, but what happens to those around him.

As for visual effect, the general impression of the movie doesn't change. The boys and the father remain dressed in very similar clothes throughout the movie, having lived on a ranch almost their entire life. We see the decades change from the 1910's to the 20's to the early 30's through Suzanna's clothes, the one female in the movie with the luxury of changing fashions.

The strength of this movie is in it's story, and the director has done a superb job in simply enhancing the tragedy with simple shots and simple styles, instead of loading up the visual side of it without letting the characters stand alone.

To me, the whole movie's attitude is summed up by two phrases, spoken by Colonel Ludlow towards the end of the movie to his middle son, Tristan.
"You're not damned, Tristan. I won't allow that."

Summary: A Beautiful Movie
Review: Everything about this movie is beautiful-the acting, the cinematography, the costumes, the script, the score, everything.
Beautifly directed by Edward Zwink, who directed Denzel Washington to his Oscar winning role in "Glory". The thing that makes a great movie is to have every key element be perfect-direction, score, acting, script, cinematography, special effects, the whole packet, which is what this movie does. So even if you don't like one thing about the movie, everything else will take your breath away.

Colenel William Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins)lives on a Montana ranch with Indians and his three sons (Aidan Quinn as Alfred, the mature and oldest brother, Brad Pitt who brilliantly plays Tristan, the middle and untamable brother, and Henry Thomas as Samuel, the youngest brother trying to be brave and strong but is really naive). When Samuel brings home his fiancee, Susannah, she changes life on the ranch forever. But soon after her arrival, the brothers are tempted to be a part of the war, so they run up to Cananda to enlist. After the war, Tristan and Alfred return home with Samuel's heart-literally.Although Tristan and Susannah love each other with everything that they have, Tristan eventually travels the world as a hunter. Susannah promises that she will wait for him, however long it takes. But as the months turn into years and as fall turns into winter, Tristan still does not return home. He tells her to marry another. He takes too long and she needs to be with someone(Julia Ormond said in an interview on the movie that "She has a desire to be needed and a need to be desired"), so she takes his advise and marrys Alfred, who is running for Congress. After Tristan returns home, confusion spins, lives are lost, lives are given, and the innocence of the fall begins.

This is a very powerful movie with superb performances that is both for guys and girls. If you love historical and romantic dramas, this movie is a must-see. You will love every thing about this movie. After watching this movie I was shocked to learn that it won the only Oscar it was nominated for-Best Cinematography. Although it was well-deserved, it should have won so many more, like Best Picture, (Not that FOREST GUMP was bad, but who the hell would-or could-run across America three times without stopping?), Best Director (Edward Zwink), Best Actor (Brad Pitt),Best Actress (Julia Ormond), Best Supporting Actor (Anthony Hopkins), Best Adapted Screenplay (Susan Shilliday), Best Original Score (James Horner, but Thomas Newman also did a beautiful job for LITTLE WOMEN), and Best Cinematography (John Toll, who DID win the Oscar that year for this movie). I know I'm going overboard here, but when you see this movie, you just want some more of it. And this truely is a GREAT, GREAT movie!!
