Rating: Summary: Kubrick blows another one. Review: Cruise and Kidman act their butts off, the photography isoutstanding, the art direction is fantastic. The pace is very slow. Iwould almost say that if you want to see Cruise and Kidman acting at each other watch this film. Frontal femal nudity is overidden by the slow pace. This film is very boring.
Rating: Summary: This is Art? Review: What was Stanley thinking? This could have been a darklycompelling film about the collision between marital intimacy andobsessive jealousy. It was ruined by ponderous acting, a bloated and pedestrian script, and the most annoying incidental music ever inflicted on a movie score. Kidman's hysterical overacting is like hearing fingernails scraped on a chalkboard. But it's not entirely her fault; the dialogue is laughably stagey and unnatural, and much of it consists of characters parroting what has just been said. Nothing about this film is crisp. Rather, we are forced to watch excruciatingly drawn-out scenes. For example, there is a scene where a hooker's roommate tells Bill (Cruise's character) that the hooker is HIV positive. It goes something like this: Roommate: there's something I should tell you. Bill: Something you should tell me? Roommate: I'm not sure I should... Bill: go ahead. Roommate: maybe you should sit down. Bill: what do you have to tell me? Roommate: I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't... Bill: Just tell me. Roommate: I know I should tell you, but ummmm.... Ad nauseum, until the audience wants to scream: "Just tell him the information and get this scene over with! With the exception of Sidney Pollack's acting, which is refreshingly natural, everyone in this film seems determined to let us know they're ACTING in capital letters. Finally, that awful music. I'm talking about the repeatedly hammered note on the piano, intended to tell the audience that THIS IS A DRAMATIC MOMENT. Instead, I started laughing every time I heard it. Maybe if Kubrick had lived long enough to edit this monstrosity, it might have been better. But as it is, he left behind a mess.
Rating: Summary: Captivating and very bizarre Review: What's real? What's a dream? That is the plot here. The suspense built to a fever pitch, but sadly died off. I've read some of the other reviews. Look, some of these people need to get off their pretentious high horse. This movie is good, but let's not start over-doing this as a film "for people with brains"
Rating: Summary: Eyes Wide Shut Review: This could very well be the hallmark of Kubrick's work. This is his last film and in my opinion one that will match 2001 and The Shining. It has overtones of both of these masterpieces and I was riveted to the intensity of the story.I waited some time before seeing it because of word of mouth....not good. Well it is and it should be seen, but perhaps not ever clearly understood.
Rating: Summary: Why not widescreen? Review: I could not understand why this was an edited, standard format DVD. One of the major attractions of DVD are the choice to watch the version you want to watch. I guess the studio want to make more money when they release the collectors edition. Wait until then to see this film!
Rating: Summary: Truely one of Kubrick's Masterpices Review: If you didnt like Eyes Wide Shut you dont deserve to watch any other Stanley Kubrick Film as long as you live. this was truley one of his works of art although all of his films are works of art this is one that surley deserves reconition Stanley's use of color the camera and story is a beautiful ending to the book of Stanley Kubrick
Rating: Summary: Probably worth the price of rental...if you're bored Review: I can't say very many good things about this movie. Pretty poor and stupid storyline. Basically, nothing but Tom Cruise walking around coming close to having an affair. A lot of nude women on display ... this one will make a good one for late night cinemax some day.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: tom and nicole are outstanding in this movie an exellent film an exellent director
Rating: Summary: a masterpiece Review: a good plot! a good sound! a good acting! just look at what a master can do it.
Rating: Summary: The best, but most don't get it..... Review: This is Kubrick at his best. Everything in this movie is great, the acting, the direction, the music, the details & thestory. Kubrick masterfully leads us slowly from reality into dreams & dreams into reality; & in the process, we can't tell what's real & what's unreal. But whatever it is, Kubrick presents us with a stunning visual & memsmerising movie of the century. We miss you, Stanley. You are the greatest director on earth.
