Summary: siv123@pacbell.net - THE IDOLMAKER - AN OLD FAMILY FAVORITE
Review: I remember watching this movie with my sisters and brother. Eventually, all of us were singing along to the songs. We must have seen it at least 20-25 times. It brings back memories. I've read the reviews here and it looks like a few of you are looking for the soundtrack. I'm one of the lucky ones who bought the soundtrack (on vinyl LP) back when. It's in my closet. I need to bring it out and listen to it again. (Yes, I still have a record player that works well). Well, I hope you all get a chance to reminisce with the movie and music soon.

Summary: The Iodolmaker
Review: I though this film was lighthearted, but also thought provoking. It once again proved what a fickle world the music business can be. Even in the swinging sixties. The soundtrack was good too.

Summary: Absolutely great! Must See!
Review: I was only a young teenager with this movie came out in the early 80's. Me and my cousins would have sleep overs and watch this movie over and over again. We sat one night and would pause and play and pause and play all the songs over and over again so we could write down all the words to the songs and learn the dance moves that Tommy D and Ceserae would do. To this day we still sing the songs from this movie. I recently bought it again cause my first tape was messed up from us watching it so much. The only problem i have with this movie is I can't find a soundtrack. I have searched high and low. If there is anyone who can help me find the soundtrack or just tell me they do not have one i would appreciate it. LOVE this movie.

Summary: A great movie to escape into the world of music makers.
Review: One of Ray Sharkeys best films. The 1950's & 1960's background, the characters and the music makes this a must see for all early teen idol's search for stardom.

Summary: Idolmaker is a Sleeper Hit
Review: Quite often; a movie studio doesn't put total trust in a film and thus, avoids dumping money into promotion. Because of this fad, you may never have heard of IDOLMAKER. If you are familiar with it, you are already aware of the films many charms. This little offering is a pleasant surprise!

The story follows Vincent Vaccari (Ray Sharkey), a man who has traded in his performing dreams to become a manager for up and comers. An expert with reading the fan magazines, he helps to hone and create the talent of individuals to great success. His first client is the good-looking Tommy Dee (Paul Land), a performer whose backstage vices constantly threaten his career. Vincent looks 180 degrees from Tommy Dee to find his second star, the youthful Caesare (Peter Gallagher). Here again, Vincent's success is measured by someone else's accomplishments. Will Vincent ever be happy working that way?

Director Taylor Hackford does a nice job re-creating an era long gone. His performers are strong, especially the young Gallagher and Sharkey, who really carries the entire film. Another great element of this films success is its catchy song-score. The songs written for the performers are easy toe-tappers when needed, or a massive showstopper to compliment a huge concert event.

The DVD has a nice audio transfer with the songs in Dolby but the video transfer is only available in pan & scan. In this era of widescreen televisions, A true transfer option should always be available. Enjoy IDOLMAKER, it's a good time in the same vein as Tom Hanks THAT THING YOU DO.
