Summary: Un-realistic and obtuse, the ending was dumb, too long.
Review: Action junkies united for another over blown audio & video attack on our all too willingness for suspence of dis-belief. It makes the FBI look incompatent. They are not as ambivalent as the film would have us believe. Jeff Bridges creates great action, but could not convince the viewer this would really happen. The message is crepuscular and over-stated.

Review: Arlington road is an absolutely amazing film. The opening sequence will suck you right in. The film continues to keep you interested until it knocks you off your feet in the end. The camera work is absolutely brillant and the lighting is superb. It also happens to be brillantly acted. This is a shocker that shouldn't be missed. Give this film a chance.

Review: Do not be deceived by the poor box office gross of this film. Nor be persuaded by the critics lambasting of ARLINGTON ROAD. Starring Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins (two of Hollywood's most underrated actors), this psychological thriller will blow you away (no pun intended). While the first half may seem slow, it's all building up to an edge-of-your-seat conclusion that will make your jaw drop. ARLINGTON ROAD may seem like it was all given away in the trailers. Listen well, reader: it was not. After seeing it three times, I feel I find new intracacies each time. ARLINGTON ROAD is a tale of modern-day paranoia, and it will leave you questioning yourself about what to believe and not to.

Review: Wow! In one of the best films of 1999, Tim Robbins scared me for the first time ever. The plot is fairly realistic but the execution is even better and it truly strikes fear in your heart about the threat of terrorism in this country. Not enough movies are realistic in this way. Wow!

Review: 'Arlington Road' has one of the best and most unexpectedly brilliant twist endings of any thriller, but the movie's premise is dependent on setting up a REALISTIC atmosphere of suburban life. Sadly and crucially the suburban Washington D.C. in the movie looks and feels like its on a different planet.

Summary: Better than one might believe
Review: This film received rather luke-warm reviews from many critics, but something nagged at me to see it and I'm glad I did. I liked this a whole lot more than I thought I would. The plot might be a bit too clever in that it relies on the sorts of devices we left behind when Mission Impossible went off the air. It also might be a bit too slick. A grittier approach might have put a bigger knot in the viewer's stomach, but it's a heck of an achievement nonetheless. The plot about a conspiracy of terror certainly plays on the viewers fears, but the script orchestrates those fears to more frightening degree than you can imagine. The ending drives home such an unsettling message some might find sleep difficult to come by. The performances are top shelf. Bridges and Robbins are at their usual high level, but Joan Cusak made my skin crawl. This is so unlike what we're used to seeing by her it seems to be the casting coup of all time. This is not stupid hero, shoot-em-up type stuff. This is a well written, well executed venture into paranoia that deserves better than it got. It's times like this I thank the home video industry. Maybe someone hesitated to pop for $8.00 for a movie ticket, but $2.00 or $3.00 for a rental will coax most into viewing this little gem and word of mouth will take over and push it over the top.

Review: Okay...were all the critics on drugs while watching this movie or something? How can they not recognize this as one of the premiere, elite movies of 1999? It was so incredible! The ending was amazing! It scared you, moved you, ran you through so many emotions! It was wonderful! Go see it!

Summary: "We Needed Some One To Blaim"
Review: "Arlington Road" was a black sheep among summer movies. Perhaps the reason for its disapointing box offic performance was its suprising inteligence. This is the real movie with ideas about the American condition, especially our feeling of comfort and perception of normalcy. The movie manages to encase these ideas in an expertly made thriller. This is one of the most suspenseful movies I've seen in a long time, but it also lets the characters talk. This means that each suprise is not only exciting, but heart breaking. The most interesting aspect of this movie, other than the ending, is the fact that we are never really sure if we should side with the main character. Is he paranoid, or is the likable neighbor actually a terrorist? And is this man some one he should trust with his son? The ending, not to spoil it, is diffinitely not a Hollywood ending. It leaves you with something to think about. Even if it had ended conventionally, it still would have been a superior suspense thriller. The movie is also technically brillant as well. Notice the how the cinematography and lighting lend an inpersonal feel to the suburban neighborhood. The real set piece, in my mind, is the party towards the end of the movie. When you see it, you'll know what I mean. Even though it still remains a sleeper now, I expect this to gather a cult following among intellectual paranoiacs like me. My only complaint is that some of the plot points are a little bit implausible. But you won't notice this while you'll watching the movie. I've gone on long enough. See it.
